I know I run the extreme risk of a downvote blitz, but I don't hate Hoke. I mean I hate him in the sense that he is a michigan man, but I don't really find him to be arrogant or overly whiny and I like the fact that he "gets" the rivalry in a way that RR did not. He actually is a great coach that has won wherever he has been. With Hoke at UM and Meyer here, this could be another exciting 10 year war type atmosphere(though littered with UM losses).
Agreed. I don't have any problems with Hoke other than the fact that he is Michigan's coach. He's not some mealy-mouthed bitch like Bielema or Dantonio and he isn't a scumbag like Saban or Kelly. I think he was a really solid hire for them, and is probably the only coach that will give Urban fits in the B1G.
Maybe if he wasn't trying so hard to make himself into another version of the long time assistant to Coach Hayes I wouldn't look at him as a buffoon. First, he was the 3rd choice and had a losing record. Look at his overall records and you just bought yourself a career 8-4 type coach. He installed countdown clocks for OSU and MSU, not the most original idea out there. The short sleeves make me shake my head. We all know why Coach Hayes said he did it, and I doubt hoke does it for that reason, it's probably out of comfort. Then the Ohio thing. I would have dropped that after a 65-60 loss in the 1st round of the tourny last year, because everyone from Ohio knows just how silly it is to refer to OSU as the Bobcats, even hoke has to realize that. But I do give props to the NCAA for having a great sense of humor in making that game happen last year.
I don't really get what you are saying Oyster. Fist off, you can't just look at his overall record. Look at WHERE he coached at and where he took them before he left. And what he has done at UM the last 2 years after the mess RR left is pretty remarkable. The rest of what you say just seems nit picky soley because he is the coach at UM. It's OK to respect your enemy...
Oyster - Once again, look at WHERE he coached. Mighty Ball State and San Diego State. Get past your UM bias and you realize it takes time to build/rebuild programs like that. And you might be the ONLY person in America that thinks RR left UM in a good place when he left.
K well the WHERE he coached argument is invalid due to UFM coaching at Bowling Green and going 22-2 at Utah. While he has done improvement to UM and we will see with his improvements, but as of yet M*chigan isn't back by losing every marquee game on their schedule. I don't hate the guy other than where he coaches, but I am a little tired of everybody saying how much of a homerun he is as a coach.
Chicago - The where is most certainly not invalid esp when using UM as a comparison. UM clearly had more immediate success but that only proves what we already know...that UM is a better coach. That does not change the fact that he won at programs that traditionally are losers and he took UM to a BCS game withthe mess that RR left.
Same boat here man. I really don't detest Hoke. I'm sure people feel as if they have to because its Michigan (fergodsakes) but the guy isn't that bad. He isn't evil incarnate like Lllllllloyd was prior to the JT era, he isn't the idol Bo was nor is he the laughable, loveable loser Rich Rod was. I feel like I can make my way to hating Brady if he has success against OSU on the recruiting trail and on the field but right now, he's just a guy to me. If Urban and Hoke engage in a near.500 battle over an extended period of time, my tune will change, especially if Hoke coached Michigan teams cost Meyer coached OSU teams anything of substance.
I also don't hate Michigan. I know, I'm supposed to because a long time ago something happened once and now we have to hate what they stand for because if we don't we arent real Buckeyes and omg give me your Buckeye card and what not. I want Michigan to be good. Always have, always will. There is no pride for me in 35 point ass whippings of inferior Michigan teams. In a perfect world, Great OSU teams would meet great Michigan teams each and every season (in a more perfect world THAT is when the 35 point ass whippings should take place).
Every year I want OSU and Michigan to both desperately need the win in The Game for a bigger, better prize. It will always matter to fans from the pride point of view but I can't recall a better feeling than watching OSU eliminate Michigan's national title game aspirations. That is the high that can not be achieved through anything other than a game of that proportion*
*I will settle for knocking them out of a BCS birth or Big Ten Championship berth as well but in my humble opinion, I want every OSU win to be at the expense of an undefeated Michigan team. I cheer for them each and every season, each and every game save 1.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
I don't think Hoke is a great coach (I'd say he's a good coach), but he seems like a good guy, and there's no reason to hate the guy outside of the school that he coaches.
Ok guys, did you really need to chase Bielima away with this topic? You know he is sensitive and pretty thin skinned given his inferiority complex to Urban. This was obviously the last straw that made a middling program in the SEC look better than being in the B1G. I blame you guys for this.
What's wrong with Tom Crean? I like him as IU coach!

One great year, one good year. Also, it would seem as though Rich Rod built the team he played with last year, right? Maybe he was let go too soon?

See the post below about BG and Utah...

He was also at the helm when Ball St got busted for the book selling and was put on probation.

Cincy, you can keep trying to convince us and continue defending hoke, but I have my opinion and you have yours.
(and I don't know who is zapping you, but it's not me)
Agree to disagree...and I never said it was you.

Is it just me or were Tom Crean and Dwight Schrute separated at birth?
Fact. Dwight K Schrute and Tom Crean were seperated at birth.
I KNEW it!

I wonder what Bielima's handle on here was?
Wow, yeah, Bielema to Arkansas. He's anxious to get away from Urb. :D
You can cross Bielema off of this list.
