I am on my way to Vegas next week and would like to place a bet on the National Champion for the 2013 season. I am a card player, so I have never placed a bet at a sports book. I am assuming it is possible to lay a bet now, does anyone know for sure? Also, any help on the language I use to place the bet (OSU as champion) and where I should place the bet would be helpful.
Thanks.

I go to VEgas twice a year. You can make the sports bet at all major casinos. They will give you a ticket and if your bet wins you send it in and they mail you a check for the amount won.
Looking at a few online oddsmaker sites shows no one having set the odds on the 2013-14 game. Knowing Vegas I am sure if you walked up to one of the big books that they'd quote you something right there. Don't worry about the language. Hell, tell them you're new at it and they'll LOVE to help you ;) Don't feel uncomfortable. Just tell them you want to bet $X on OSU to win the 2013-2014 BCS Championship game. Clarify that you don't mean the 2014 playoffs. They'll make it work. Caesar's has my favorite book. Bally's is small but ok too.
I couldn't place a bet on the 2013 National Championship game. They won't take bets until after this years Bama-ND game. I was also told that the Las Vegas Hotel (the old LV Hilton) will be the first to take bets.
Also, you can only bet on a Heisman Trophy winner off-shore. No bets taken in the U.S.
Also, I had a great talk with the floor manager at the Tropicana SportsBook. Great guy, taught me a lot about gambling on sports.
Also, what a crazy world. Murder-suicide at the front desk of the Excalibur last night.

I'm not a religious man, but if I lead a good life and there is a heaven, it'll look a lot like a sports book in Vegas on January 1st.
