Finally, a bit of movement. By the way, what's going on down at Miami?

Chip Kelly to the NFL could mean Dontre Wilson to the Buckeyes... Speed kills!

Where would Wilson fit into the hierarchy of playmakers still or potentially available? Below Quick and Gibson (because he's a true WR, but I'm presuming here), but after that...

Wilson seems like more of a running back type of player.  He is smaller than Jalin Marshall, but I could see him used like Jalin.  Just get him on the field somewhere and he'll make plays.  Somewhat like D'Anthony Thomas.  So I guess I would rate him as a better playmaker than either of those two (but a worse pure WR, because he would make plays in lots of different ways).

Of all of the possible flips out there, this is the one I want most.  Seems like a great playmaker with insane speed that would thrive in this offense (but also Oregon's).

Chip Kelly to the Saints

This could happen, with Payton to the Cowboys. I know his sister very well and she thinks it's going to happen. By the way, that's the last name I'll drop on 11W, if for no other reason than I don't know anybody else.

My friends and I were discussing Kelly to the NFL yesterday.  We all agree that he'll end up in Philly.  Vick, DeSean Jackson, Shady McCoy, Riley Cooper, Bryce "FumbleBeeTuna" Brown, Jeremy Maclin, Brent Celek, and even old reliable Jason Avant...I can see it.  Could be dangerously good.  Plus, it's another green team with a bird as its mascot = Destiny.

Agree he would go to the Eagles...but I think Vick may be gone. The writing is on the wall in Philly.

I think you are right that he is likely gone, but I think the only scenario he stays is if Chip Kelly ends up there and would like to maintain some semblance of his spread option attack.

I actually expect Chip Kelly to go to a place like Arizona, where there is QB uncertainty and where things like weather impact are minimized.  He can mold his offense into what he wants it to look like, and he's already got some pretty decent weapons in Fitzgerald, Beanie, Williams, Floyd, Stephens-Howling...

Vick is done in Philly, and a place like Arizona may be a landing spot for him under Kelly.  They'll have some nice draft picks, maybe even picking up a burner in the 3rd/4th round that already knows the offense well (Barner).

He'll be the hot name this offseason, and with impending sanctions you have to believe now is the time for him to try his hand in the NFL.

Zona isn't a bad place for him .... my God do they need some help at the QB position.

It's almost worse there than it is with the Jets ... almost.

The Bidwells are the worst ownership family in the NFL. They probably will not pay enough to entice Kelly, and if they did end up doing so they would then traditionally lowball every other aspect of the organization and torpedo his efforts. (Long time Cardinals observer here.)

There is no helping the Cardinals till the NFL forces the Bidwells to sell the team or Kurt Warner returns to Glendale. Neither of which will happen.

Is there any one besides Dontre Wilson that we could steal from Oregon's cupboard?

rdubs's picture

I honestly don't think so, their class is not very good right now.  They have a couple playmakers, but not much depth at other positions like LB or OL.

You're right, it does not look impressive; though it rarely does at this time of the year. Oregon's system, as far as I can tell, is to finish big with a high-profile bowl game appearance, close hard on targets of interest, flip a kid or two from California, and generally do a year's worth of recruiting in 6-8 weeks. I've seen them do this over the last few years after saying just what RDUBS said above. It's not the system I would love as a fan, but their results are undeniable.

An interesting thing to watch if Kelly bolts for the NFL is where Oregon turns for a head coach. Belotti did a nice job there, but Kelly has really been able to bring them into the national discussion every year since taking over. It's a really good football job now and with the Nike connection and all, I would think it would be a pretty attractive job. Is Oregon the job that could pull Chris Peterson away from Boise State? We shall see.

I can't remember where I read this, but I believe last year when it was almost a certainty that Kelly was taking the Tampa Bay opening, the initial thought was Oregon would promote their current offensive coordinator to head coach.

I think at this point, Oregon is married to the fast-paced, exciting, high-powered offense.  Until anyone shows it can be stopped consistently in the PAC-12, the administration and fanbase are going to want to keep it the same in the hopes they'll get another national championship try.  Everything is flashy in Eugene right now (offense, jerseys, new athletic/football buildings).  I think in order to remain high in the national recruiting conscience, a place like Oregon is going to have to remain that way.

Actually the Pac has caught on to how to stop UofO better than the OOC opponents.  Only Boise 2 years ago and LSU were able to slow them down whereas Stanford, the Beavers and my Cal Bears (with fake injuries) had success slowing the Ducks in games the past 2 years.

Wonder if the new coach will continue to recruit for speed only and have the guts to ignore size and other metrics.

Understood, but I think "slow them down" is a relative term.

Stanford held Oregon to 14 points, yes, but they also gave up 400 yards of total offense.  In today's world, that is considered absolutely shutting down the Oregon offense.  There have been a few games in the past 3-4 years where defenses have shown the ability to slow down Oregon's offense for an entire game:  Stanford this year, Auburn in the MNC, Ohio State in the Rose Bowl, and Boise State in that year's opening game.  LSU also did a good job last year, but most of that resulted from Thomas consistently fumbling the ball away.

Very few teams have the right formula to shut down Oregon - an extremely disruptive defensive line, very good and quick linebackers, and an offense that can give the defense a bit of a break, at times.  Stanford is the only team right now in the PAC who can even come close to doing that, IMO.

*Edit - forgot to include Cal game a few years ago, like you mentioned.  But, unfortunately that team and staff is no longer the same.

Wouldn't be surprised if they hired Dana Holgerson (sp?).

Mike Leach anyone???

i dont think theres any way oregon misses on paying a steep price from ncaa on what has supposedly happened there. if they couldnt work it out the way they had been trying to come to a conclusion with ncaa with out having to sit down and face them you would have to believe ncaa has some type of hard evidence. i know i heard the dreaded failure to monitor mentioned yesterday.

I dont know karate but i do know crazy and i'm not afraid to use it.

Oregon falls into the flusher watch UCLA suddenly become a national power. It seems the west coast recruits tend to migrate to whatever place is "hip and cool" and NOT on NCAA probation. USC had the chance to return to prominence but Kiffin screwed it up with his coaching. Oregon loses its luster and it's an even money bet the recruits move to UCLA.
