If you have time to watch something in the background at work today, here is a little treat. Sometimes it is nice to go back in time and watch some of the old incarnations of The Game. I just finished watching the 1982 game highlights, and thought I'd share this old school classic.
12-10 OSU wins, and unfortunately goes on to lose 18-17 to USC.

Someone may want to look this up, But I'd be willing to bet OSU has more finishes at 2nd place nationally than any other team in CFB history...This game is one of my very first recollections of Ohio State football. The loss to USC was another heartbreaker.

I saw the heartbreaker at the Rose Bowl. Charles White lived up to the Heisman on the last drive.
We did have some heartbreaks (UM tie in mid 70's, Oklahoma field goal after we jumped offside, two 1-point losses to SC, Baschnagel held down versus Sparty) BUT, my guess is that Penn State was #2 more often. For years, every sports writer not on the east coast knew they played nobody, so they kept witholding first place votes even when Sandusky's boys were 11-0.
You might be right there - I'd still be interested to see the numbers though. I know the 60s, 70s & 90s saw OSU finish 2nd often...May happen this year as well (AP). But yeah - that 93 (I believe) PSU team got ripped off pretty good & I'm no PSU fan...I was rooting for them though, as I played pee wee football with Kijana in Westerville years ago.

I remember that. I believe it was the '94 PSU team that went unbeaten and dropped 63 on our Buckeyes. Yeah, not sure why they didn't get any love that year.
Class of 2010.
That PSU team didnt get any love because they didnt play the no 1 team in the bowl game. PSU's tie in to the Big Ten cost them -- they had to play the Rose Bowl against no 12 Oregon, rather than no 1 Nebraska, which beat No 3 Miami in the Orange Bowl.
In the other undefeated seasons that paterno used to whine about, they had to deal with multiple dominant undefeated teams who played tougher schedules (e.g., OSU beating OJ and USC in 1968; ND and ALabama both unbeated when they played for the title; OSU at 10-0-1 stomped USC in the Rose Bowl).
i dont know about finishing 2nd, but OSU has certainly missed a number of National titles by blowing the final game:
1969
1970
1975
1979
2006
2007
that is just off the top of my head and only lists where we lost the last game. Im not even counting the '73 tie against michigan or the '98 loss to MSU.
Don't forget 95 & 96...I know I can't.

One of my relatives went to this game. It was a cold day, but they stayed warm with a thermos of hot chocolate and peppermint schnapps. Mike Lantry is one of my all-time favorite Wolverines.

I was at that game. It was my first Michigan game in person (i was 11). The UM kicker missed a game winning field goal for the second year in a row!
I remember getting on the field and listening to a very pissed off Michigan player saying over and over " i just want to get the f**k off the field"!
It was cool to hear Joe Pa calling the game. However, one thing I've noticed is how crazy my parents were in the stands. I've been to several OSU games but I've never seen fans throw rolls of toilet paper in the stands or ripped pieces of paper. Makes me think they had more fun than I did celebratings wins during Tressel Era.
Ohio State's band SLAUGHTERED Michigan's band. If this were a football game, it would have been Florida State vs. Savannah State. - SB Nation following OSU vs. UM 2012
