Tracy Sprinkle won the Golden Helmet Award. He is the first defensive player to win this particular honor. I think OSU got a steal in this kid and will be a great lineman for years to come.

I agree, Big Hank was a three star and now look at him First Round Draft talent! Stars are nice, but its how bad the kid wants it!
Pay It Forward!
As was Roby and Simon.
Simon wasn't a consensus 3* but you're right, it's all about the drive and dedication. Mr. Sprinkle I think is gonna be a special player.
Simon was a scout 5*
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Everybody and their momma has 5*s on scout
Follow me @jaythesportsguy
thats why im so pumped to have the staff we have. they are on it
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
OSU is the 3-into-5 star factory... wasnt sold on this kid at the start but his hardwork has massively paid off, so glad for him that he had the impressive year he did.
You can never have too many pass rushers. Wouldn't be shocked at all if he gets early PT in 2013.
I am glad to see Sprinkle receive this honor. I played in the same conference as Elyria (years ago, it was different then), and they had some pretty talented kids but are not Ohio elite. So, I think it is reflective of talent and hard work for him to receive this recognition. He should do very well with the Buckeyes' coaches.

Ohio State really knows how to find the diamonds in the rough.
"if irony were made of strawberries, we' d all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
It doesn't neccessarily have to do with heart and determination so much as it has to do with something tangible that isn't as impressive or as complete as a 5 star guy. For Hankins it was that he was fat. He was extremely athletic and quick for a guy his size. Was Hankins really dramatically different than other guys in the same position who were higher rated? Not at all, they were just more college ready in the eyes of the "experts"
Sprinkle and Lewis are a good compliment for one another, throw is bosa, schutt and Hill, and then with who we already have on the line, its insane man..... insane.... LB's talk about wanting to play behind a dominant line to make plays.... tOSU fits the bill and then some.... The front seven should be nasty over the next several years with gap cloggers in the middle, pass rushers on the outside, and free romaing LB's causing havoc both vertically and laterally.... Did I mention I love this damn team?!?!?!
Not to sound ignorant but I have never heard of this award....Can you tell us about it? Thanks and Congrats Tracy!
From the Lorain County Chronical-Telegram,
"The ride hit another high Thursday night when Sprinkle was named the winner of the 2012 Lorain County Golden Helmet Award, given annually to the top senior football player in the county."
Here is the whole article if you are so inclined,

(doff of the cap to Google, its a wonderful resource, haha)
Some players are not considered great in high school but turn out to be studs in college. Some players are just okay in college but turn out to be studs in the pro's. Point being, we never know when everything is going to click for someone and it looks like Sprinkle is starting to click. Way to go Urban on picking up this kid.
Jim Tressel vs. Rich Rod = Urban Meyer vs. Brady Hoke
Kid gives relentless effort. And is a great leader on the field. A steal is correct.
I am so pumped for this kid! Amazing athlete. Better person.
