A by product of success is popularity and that is exactly what 11w has experienced. We have all seen it and lately I think the friction is starting to really bring all of the effort and work this staff puts into the site down. We've got some newbs/trolls (depending on your stance) and some real Internet tough guys/know it alls.
At this point, I don't really care if you're one or the other or fall somewhere in the middle. I really enjoy this site and have for a few years with relatively few user based issues. Lately it seems like both extremists are flooding the site and the bottom line is it is disrespectful to 11w staff and the amazing effort and product that they strive to provide us.
No other site gives a better perspective, more information, and absolute access to their staff than 11w, for free none the less (if you choose not to donate). So my plea is, Internet tough guys, take it easy and respect the product that the staff work so hard to provide, this is not your forum no matter how much you wish it is. Newbs, don't go borderline troll, this is an excellent community with an educated and impassioned base, work your way into the flow and build some respect, we really are welcoming.
So there it is, it's the off season and I hope we all take a moment like our beloved team to evaluate ourselves and respect the community were a part of, adding to its success by bringing our best contributions to the table and nothing else.
go bucks and thank you 11w

I hope we can all agree
Well said OSU.
Excellent points. We can all hope.

ahhhh....
great post. Better idea
The more the site grows, the more hot men you will see.

I agree with you about the friction, but to be honest it seems like it's usually there a little bit in the offseason (hey, nothing's perfect, even this community). I don't know what it is, maybe we're feining for the football high? Once Ohio State is playing football again it kind of chills out. Just my two cents, keep in mind I've only been reading forum posts for about 2 years.
Noticed this even more so last off season, though this one is only a few days old.
Well put, OSU07ASU10! Thanks for taking the time to post this. And to PENULT - you are so right. By June we are like the rats in the overcrowding experiment - all chewing on each others tails, stressed, and wanting a change of scenery (an actual game!).

What the f*ck is this ELE you speak of?
Welp. Looks like I'm watching The Big Lebowski tonight.
THANKS A LOT WILLIAM.
No problem, any time. great movie though.
No problem, any time. GREATEST movie though.

one aspect of 11W that hasn't changed (thank god), is the abundance of Big Lewbowski references.
Nothing changes. F*cking nazis
I think "No Repeat Threads" also falls into this category. There are a lot of threads that have the same topic to seem like it's a contest to see who can get the most attention.
Also, some members have no clue what spellcheck is or how words work together in sentences. Save that garbage for ESPN.
"I like to kick Michigan's ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of gum."
It is one thing to have a thread brought back up by someone though. The other day I counted at least 5 about Conley and 3 about Dawson on the first forum page alone. I know I haven't been here very long and may have been guilty of making a new topic about something that was buried a page or two back but I got jumped on for that and all I wanted was an update. Some people take this too seriously. Can we have a refresher of the first grade during the offseason?

I have no idea how that happened....
I think that there are a couple of things that the site could do to make it easier to reduce the number of repeat threads.
1) Put a search box next to the "Post New Forum Topic" button". This would make it easier for people to find the topic they want to talk about. I have not created a forum topic yet but I don't usually look beyond page 1 for topics to comment on.
2) Have some sort of way to move a topic up to page 1 if you want to comment on it. I'm not sure how or why a topic stays at the top of the list but it appears that a topic that is frequently commented on stays near the top.
With regards to your second comment; yes there is a spell check in the commenting box and it would be nice if people used it more. But I am typically more annoyed by someone that wastes a commenting space solely to complain about another posters spelling. I'm here to talk about the buckeyes not grammar.
I agree with the spirit of this thread. The problem is, someone makes a thread and others complain about the topic or their grammar, etc, than people complain about the complainers, and people then point out that complaining about complainers is dumb, and it goes on and on.
I don't really have anything negative to say about anyone unless they are being offensive, and by that I mean making things uncomfortable for everyone else by calling people names etc. It's pretty obvious when someone is trolling, so I ignore them. It's easy enough to tell when people can't spell or have poor grammar so I don't say anything. I click on some of the dumb forum posts not sure what I'll find, but I simply don't participate in it if I don't like it.
I'm not telling anyone how to think or act, but we can avoid a whole lot of unpleasant back and forth if people just simply didn't respond sometimes. Pointing out how dumb their post is or how horrible they spell etc simply doesn't stop it. I'm all for calling people out when they are violating the commenting policy though.
150% agree. Well Said.

Best said so far...I'm educated; however I don't always feel the need to follow APA formatting on an 11 Warriors Forum...lol. Most people are here to have fun, enjoy the buckeyes and get away from all the BS that their typical day brings...

Well written, nice to read and I appreciate your thoughts. Maybe it's a bit easier to be less concerned about what one writes (considering being "mean") by having a moniker? By using a moniker, perhaps one has a different identity and it's easier to hide behind it and let the ego take over...or just not care if you are being professional or following proper internet/being cool to one an other/protocol. And then, maybe there should be a "know it all" button and a "you didn't get it" button and a "you need a sense of humor" button added.

I would upvote this a million times if I could...That pretty much hits the nail on the head.

Maybe I'm looking at things thru Scarlet colored glasses, but I really don't see too much jerky stuff here. I do scan over things pretty quickly especially the BS so I'm probably not noticing it as much.

Honestly, there isn't; however, you have a few people who want to take minor issues and blow them up into major things.

well, if anyone wants to see how terrible people can be. head over to the espn boards. literally the worst people ever.
No kidding... it is BAD. Just look at the comments on the Cheifs shooting. They are already saying she deserved it and making joke about him. About as bad as it comes.
exactly. i was just staring at the comments in disbelief...what we have here is nothing compared to that. we all may have our jerk comments but the general feeling from this site is that everyone respects each other.
Or comments after any Yahoo article. Seriously. Doesn't matter the topic: "Man Donates Life Savings to Orphan." and you will see posts like "Lousy orphans! Never worked a day in their lives, I bet they voted for _______." or "I bet the guy made his money by selling drugs."

For me it is almost as if some have a sense of entitlement because they have been longer than others or have a larger collection of stickers...They come off as if they have a little more ownership or that "my dad can beat your dad up" mentality we had as children. I remember not long ago reading someone's post that more or less said: I've been here for years, people need to come in make their statement, and EARN our respect...I call BS. You have MY respect until you do something to lose it. You don't have to agree with me. You have every right to be wrong if you want :) (That is a joke for those without a sense of humor as JARRETT mentioned earlier).

i agree with this post but considering how uncivil the rest of the internet is, i have a hard time even noticing the trolling in the 11w community because it is so greatly dwarfed by everywhere else

Great post. I dont post much or get on here as much as i want to, but i found most people great on here which is why this is my favorite site to visit.

I have been hesitant to join or read most blogs due to all the rude people that seem to thrive on hateful remarks, being right all the time, or just jerky...so I wasn't so sure it would be any different here. It's bad enough reading the local comments of on-line newspapers, etc.
I'm like a lot of you- this is a good thing. The writers and those that organize this site are A1A. And even if I don't agree with a comment posted or article/blog/forum, nothing has been outright rude or seems to be written out of anger, or to get in some ones face. I think this is probably the most polite public forum I've encountered. So, kudos' to all and way to keep the peace. This really is a cool site and fun to respond to and read. Maybe it's because Buckeye Fans and 11 Warriors members aren't only incredibly good looking, they are incredibly wise.
Yo, everything copasetic, Buckeye Biotches?

It's been interesting to watch the growth of this community, since I've been lurking for years before I signed up. However, it is both civil and tame compared to a lot of other internet communities. I think that people here have an innate respect and love for all things Buckeye (or at least respect for all things Buckeye as demonstrated by some of our scUM posters), and want to genuinely share their thoughts and opinions with everyone else. Game liveblogs and threads are the only place where people are a tad more "troll-tastic" or "overreactionary," but those are mostly knee jerk reactions to what's happening at that moment For the most part, this community is awesome.
Thank you 11W staff and mods!
Thank you 11W
It was inevitable really...just how things are. The only thing you can do is step up moderation and be more strict (honestly the mods seem to participate in much of the shenanigans) or get rid of the voting system which I think is failing.
Very well said OP and BTal. Just post when you want to add info. or ask a question. Unless someone is being offensive, just ignore.
Just want to say thanks to all the 11W people. Great content, well written pieces, and usually great posters! I've been reading along time, didn't join or post for a long time, but am thankful for info. when I do.
Great forum post, good responses. This site is excellent. The staff is excellent, the articles are well written and well thought out, and for the most part the commentariat is both polite and very well educated. I learn more in a week reading the comments on this site than I would in a whole season of just watching the games on TV and reading the recaps on ESPN/Dispatch.
Good job everyone.
When told OSU set school record for 50+ games this year, UFM said "That's good. We're gonna break that next year."
This forum is considerably more tame than any other football forum I have ever been a part of.
I think generally this site is the best and like many have said pales in comparison to some of the hate/troll/jerk going on in other forums. Just hope everyone takes a moment to realize how great the site is and how great we have it and always strive to do the site and staff right with any contribution.
