Anyone else notice the new media narrative is that the reason OSU went undefeated is because they were on probation. If OSU was not on probation, there would be too much pressure to go undefeated and teams would play harder against OSU. I hope the team continues to hear all this during the offseason.

bunch of malarkey
Whatever! We are Ohio State! Everybody wants to beat us! Whether on probation, undefeated, or winless! Screw the media! 12-0 baby! Enough said!
And what's the narrative for Notre Dame going undefeated? They are just that much better than everyone else? They didn't crack under the pressure of trying to go undefeated? Wait, Notre Dame isn't on probation so they MUST really be awesome.
What a bunch of B.S. Am I supposed to believe that the teams OSU played didn't give them their best shot this year? How the hell does being on probation help you?
Geez. At the beginning of the year they were saying that Urban would have a rough/nearly impossible time going 12-0 because the team had no "carrots" as in bowl games to dangle in front of them. How would he get them to buy in and not get complacent and say to hell with it when they were in the grind part of the schedule and everyone was tired and dinged up? So now their biggest question is brushed off because he was able to keep them motivated? Easy? No pressure? Come on.
They went undefeated because there a good to great football team that has an unbelievable coaching staff who knows how to win. You can say it was a bad B1G and I wouldnt argue but did anyone else go undefeated besides ND. Nope. They won every game that they were scheduled to play and the media had nothing to do with it. Urban and his coaches had everything to do with it.

I've come to the conclusion that everyone who's not a Buckeye fan hates Ohio State and desperately attempts to find ways to undermine Ohio State's success. Let's explore the ways that this happens:
- Ohio State gets hell for a weak schedule, Georgia one game away from the NC game with similar SOS.
- The Big Ten is "weak", which means Ohio State isn't any good, but these were the SAME PEOPLE who cried because Boise Freakin' State got shut out of the BCS Championship Game!
- Then it was "Urban won't go undefeated in 2012 because there's nothing to play for". When it actually happens, it becomes "Oh, they didn't have the pressure of playing for a title".
- Big Ten teams ridicule Ohio State for losing 2 of their 3 National Championship Game appearances, despite the painful fact that NO OTHER BIG TEN TEAM has ever made it there.
- Big Ten teams so jealous of Ohio State that their coaches try to pretend like Braxton Miller is the 2nd best QB in the league and that Ryan Shazier is the FOURTH BEST Linebacker in the B1G.
- Michigan and Wisconsin fans tout their academic success and "class" as being "more important" than winning at all costs, like mean old Ohio State. This is usually the argument that is brought up after the aforementioned teams lose to Ohio State.
Yeah, everybody hates us, and it's going to be so, so sweet when our boys dominate college football over the next 5 years.
We can't stop here; this is bat country...
Funny how ONLY Ohio State and Northwestern were honored for their APR scores..
Funny, because Wisconsin and Michigan fans always have that "holier than thou" attitude regarding academics after we pound them senseless. It appears as though they suck at school, too.

I saw the thread title and immediately two words popped into my head: URBAN MEYER
And let the haters hate...this time next year, they'll be singing the same sad tune as undefeated OSU readies for the B1G CCG against an overmatched opponent in preparation for a showdown in the title game with <insert SEC team>.
OSU has taken over as the most hated team in college football I think. Success does that. People wanted to continue to hate ND but up until this year, they sucked too bad for anyone to care.
Champions Bleed Scarlet & Gray
I'd say it had 100% to do with the staff and the way they pushed and led this team and group of seniors!!
Urban wants an angry team. I am sure he will have one
Heard that a lot in pre-season and in the closing press conference, I think this will be used a lot this off season for motivation (if any is even needed)
I've also heard similar nonsense where the national media are saying that losing to OSU didn't matter because OSU couldn't compete for the conference championship, etc. I can't imagine another team showing up to play with that attitude, i.e., we don't have to try today because a conference loss to OSU won't matter. Teams don't try to lose! (apologies to former B1G coach of the year John L. Smith and the fighting Razorbacks as the exception that proves the rule)
Am I the only one that kinda agrees with this? I think playing w/ the pressure of having to go undefeated is a huge deal. We had the advantage of playing with nothing the lose the whole season. Now obviously it doesn't matter if you don't have the talent/coaching/preparation/work ethic/etc to use that advantage, and it should in no way diminish the fact that we went undefeated, but to say it wasn't a factor at all is kinda ignorant imo.
I think not having anything tangible to play for would far outweigh the impact of playing with "nothing to lose", as you say. There's a reason nobody in the country thought Ohio State would go 12-0. To keep 100 20 year olds focused all year long, despite having no pot of proverbial gold at the end of the rainbow takes an IMMENSE amount of talent, character, willpower and any other descriptive words you'd like to use.
We can't stop here; this is bat country...
Fair enough. I didn't look at it that way.
The reason we went undefeated is because we scored more points than the opponents in all 12 of our games fuck anyone that tries to take that away from this team
I bet there are plenty of teams that can compete for the National Title this year wishing they were 12-0 (Alabama, Oregon, and K-State among them)!
That's why I love the Buckeyes - they win!
It's awesome to be 12-0 and everyone else in the country will just have to hate us some more! I'm loving it - Go Bucs!

That statement about probation is 100% FICTION. This is Ohio State. Ohio State has been a dominant force in the Big Ten over the past several years, even given the down year last year. The other teams in the conference look at OSU as the big bad bully, and thus our Buckeyes are always going to get everybody's best shot. Nobody gives a damn about sanctions, probations, bowl bans, any of that shit. Look at Purdue and TSUN rushing the field last year after beating our unranked team. They didn't even care when our team was DOWN, so they're certainly not going to care when our much improved team this year is on sanctions. Whoever made that statement in the media is clueless about OSU and maybe about college football in general.
Class of 2010.
In case the media or anyone else with the tag of expert should already know, in Columbus, Ohio there is always pressure to win sanctions or no sanctions and don't think for a minute that Urban isn't going to use that as a motivational tool this off season. Fact is that regardless of what anyone thinks, hopes or wishes as good as this team played this year next year there will be even fewer holes and they will be even more motivated........Ya hear that thunder in the distance? (my best Hulk Hogan impression inserted here) Whatcha gonna do when my Buckeyes run wild on you!!!!!!

Battles are sometimes won by generals; wars are nearly always won by sergeants and privates. Football is no different, the guys down in the trenches win the games, not the coach.
DAITHEFLU... Why only the next 5 years?? Urban better be handing off this job to his son someday. I keeed.
Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.
God, I hope so. I think he will be around for 10 years, but I'm trying to condition myself for the fact that he may win 2 NC's in 5 years and then call it a career.
We can't stop here; this is bat country...
cant see it happening. him leaving i mean. like he said theres a reason they do what they do and i truly believe him and his entire family are happy here.
I dont know karate but i do know crazy and i'm not afraid to use it.

I thought they went undefeated because they didn't lose any games
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!

It's funny listening to the media tarnish the 12-0 record of Ohio State by using the excuse of "but team-x in conf-x would destroy them".
Tomorrow
have we ever cared what anyone else thinks of us.

Reasons they went undefeated:
1. Braxton Miller is a helluva player.
2. Urban Meyer is one of the greatest college coaches of all time.
3. Very weak schedule and perhaps the weakest big 10 of all time.
4. Luck was on their side..ALOT
5. Although the team looked average alot of the time it NEVER gave up during the season. Always persavered.
6. Talent advantage. OSU had the talent advantage over every team they played this year. No USC, Texas etc on schedule.
