I know the theme this year is the chrome helmet look every team is getting. However, I would like to see a pro combat uniform to pay tribute to Ohio State's original name and mascot. Originally the school was the Ohio A&M Aggies with a black and orange color scheme. Nike has come out with some very nice looking all black uniforms. I would prefer them wear the black matte finish helmets. I know some people have been clamoring to see OSU rock a black alternate uniform but I can't see them doing that because of Cincinnati's uni's. Any thoughts? Not to mention there has not been one word from OSU regarding this year's new Pro Combat Uni's. Weren't we suppose to see a sneak peek in September?

With all due respect, man, absolutely not. The uproar any deviation in color scheme away from scarlet and gray would cause would be massive. No way in hell UFM or Gene Smith would let something like that happen. We're not the Bengals, OK St, or Oregon St. We're Ohio State. Scarlet and gray, Buckeye leaves, all that good stuff.
My theory is they'll release the unis during the bye week (slow news week for OSU) or they'll just come out of the tunnel in them for The Game.
Please...never.

terrible idea
I don't think I would mind it. It would show a lot of people the history of TOSU.
That would be something totally different that's for sure. I personally don't like the idea of black unis. The first two pro combats weren't all that great really they were pretty boing really but I did really really like last years'.
I was thinking it stays along the lines of the other uni's and paying tribute to the past. The older fan base is going to be in an uproar at any change but they always seem to get over it.
ie Tress changing the arm stripe and the combat uni's every year.
This one goes for everyone. What would you like to see?
I looked for a bit to see if I could find a picture of the original uniform colors online without success. You would think there would be a uni in a museum somewhere. Can anyone provide this? I'd be interested to see what they looked like.

I dont see how we are honoring the past by getting new hi-tech uniforms that barely resemble the uniforms their trying to honor. I say cut the crap and just give us some badass uniforms for one game, instead of trying to call them throwbacks. (ie.Virginia Tech's against boise state)
The arm stripe has been changed a a few times already so it wasn't a real huge issue for me when tress did it. It aligns with the helmet stripe and that has become sononomous with OSU football (and now other teams <I.e. basketball> use it). I can't say I wouldn't dig the (previously debated) chrome and diamond plated helmet with a futuristic look. It could be billed as a a past/present/future theme. That being said....a traditional helmet full of buckeyes sure looks intimidating and I'd love seeing them against aacc.
"Have you earned your buckeye today?"
This is an easy comment/answer for me .... no.
JT
Instead of just no. What would you like to see?
black jersey...dark grey pants.....like the black helmet idea, or chrome diamond plated...they will look bad ass regardless
Damn it feels good to be a Buckeye....
I wouldn't be suprised if we saw a chrome buckeye leaf design on the shoulder similar to the new OSU Nike shirts and Oregon's chromed wing design on there jerseys.
Just say no to orange and black. Nothing against the color scheme (it was my school's colors), but its just not Ohio State. I like black as an accent color only.
I should also note that my college has, much to my chagrin, gone to the winged helmet design. If they had those helmets when I was there, I may have made a different college choice. I'm not sure I could have worn one of those helmets.
I do not think that Black and Orange were ever used in an official capacity. The colors never made it out of committee.
from the university archives:
A committee of three students decided on the colors for the university during the 1878 Spring Term. The original colors selected for OSU were orange and black. However, because Princeton had already chosen those colors, the committee decided to change their decision to scarlet and gray. Alice Townshend, one of the members on the committee, reported that the colors did not signify anything. Instead, the committee wanted to choose something that was a nice combination and had not been used by any other college.
Buckeye in PA purgatory
I could dig it. Even if I didn't particularly like the throwbacks the Steelers sported against Washington, I can appreciate and salute their initiative.
Even if it's not an orange-and-black clad squad, I think some turn-of-the-century duds could be groovy.
Chrome leather helmets!!1!
Taquitos.
Oh Denny, you know Carlos would look good with some silver Hyde wrapped around his skull.
Silverhyde is my favorite non-existent chemical
Taquitos.
Braxtonium is also criminally underrated, though I suppose it would technically be considered a metallic element.
Like mercury (aka quicksilver), only more slippery.
I'm beginning to wonder if we also got a pro combat ban this year.

Since they do "throwbacks" I think the coaching staff should have to wear football coach shorts!!
-The Aristocrats!
"scarlet and gray everyday" with some throwback in one or two games a year
O H I O is the Buckeye State
Hopefully nothing as god awful as those Steeler's uniforms were!

Absolutely not.....just....NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
"if irony were made of strawberries, we' d all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
Obviously changing the colors is going to be largely discounted, but I like the thought. I hate those colors so I would probably hate the jerseys, but I think it would be cool anyway. Maybe in like 5 years when I'm more mellow.
Until then, we can still do chrome or matte black helmets, just not 100% black unis like Cinci.
When told OSU set school record for 50+ games this year, UFM said "That's good. We're gonna break that next year."
I don't get the big hubbub about the pro-combat unis. For one game a year I don't mind mixing things up. Now if we became Oregon and had clown costumes for every game that didn't reflect the tradition that we have at OSU, then that would be understandable. I wouldn't mind changing up the unis with some old school colors, but for the love of all that is sacred don't do it for the GAME.
In fact for the game I just wish both teams always wore their home jerseys regardless of where the game is played.
Bad idea.....Actually horrible idea. And if we want to wear a black uniform we will! We are Ohio State and do not care about what cincy is wearing.
I'm the same way RDubs, although the first 2 really werent anything to get too wound up about anyway. They were pretty boring. I thought last years was pretty cool, and not as plain and boring as the first 2. I wouldn't mind this years being really bold
I hesitate to post this, but furthering my comments on Buckeye orange and black and the Princeton connection noted by DSBGOBUX:
STOP THE MADNESS!
The connection: Fritz Crisler, who took the design from Princeton to Michigan in 1938.
I say to my shame that this is the helmet currently sported by my alma mater.

EDIT: For some reason, I cannot get the image to show up. It is an Orange and Black Winged Helmet.
Thanks @DSBGOBUX. +1 for answering my question and providing some interesting info!
Some help to Earle, for those that don't follow links:

@ALHAN: Thanks (I think) for the image. I was going for shock-value to the orange/black contingent, but seeing it again is still awfully jarring.
Black and orange would look horrible, if they went that route might as well just make the uniforms from tires in the goodyear plant and the helmets from some of those orange barrels ODOT never moves from the highways..
All the games of the season are just practices for that glorious saturday in November when we get to jack Shoelace's invisible cereal bowl and drink our fill of delicious skunkweasel tears ...Michigan Still Sucks!!
I want this ^ helmet for our ProCombat throwback uni. Let's see how hard we can REALLY hit.

I got word from someone in the band that they are doing a "patriotic" theme for the half-time show. While I don't know if the band and team have any sort of communication behind closed doors, but this makes me wonder if there is some merit to the camo football uniforms for this weekend. When you think about it, it really would give the team a little pick me up from what is going to be considered a "down" game.
Don't give up... Don't ever give up.
I bought this one on ebay. Has anyone seen one like this?
Yea I've seen that one before. Some places on the net have been trying to pass that off as the new pro combat to get them to sell. It's not, but I like it though.
it will be for the Michigan game (99.9% confirmed) and I hope they somehow honor the 2002 team that will be at honored at the game....every pro combat for us doesn't need to throw back to the 40s-70s.....why can't we just go gray sleeves big #s etc like 2002....here's to hoping
would love a crystal ball themed helmet to go with Alex's uni idea.
@ALEX - That's my guess, as well. I'm betting it will have a darker "scarlet" jersey, and the big-ass numbers. Not to mention, that mean's we should get to see the buckeye leaves, as well.
I got your helmet - put a face mask on this one:
Buckeyes pro combat helmets for Michigan game - feast your eyes:
BLACK NUMBERS ON THE SLEEVE: KERN, TATUM, STILLWAGON, OTIS, SENSIBAUGH!!!
Realistically though they have already done a White, Red, and Silver helmet. If they're not going to do black then it has to be a chrome helmet.
