At this point, the bowl ban doesnt bother me too much. There is no guarantee that we would have made the BCS championship, let alone win it. We still would have had to play Nebraska again, and its hard to beat anyone twice in the same season. And in any event, Im not sure we would have jumped the SEC winner. Dont get me wrong, this team always found a way to win, and I think we would have had a chance to win any bowl game; I just think things would have felt a bit different if we were a dominant team, crushing everyone we faced.
In the end, the fact that our future is so bright has really taken much of the sting out of the tatgate penalties. Last season was painful and that is when I felt it. As soon as we hired Urban, the pain went away. Its funny to hear Michigan fans talk about their reputation vs OSU's reputation. I was embarrassed by Tressel's cover-up, particularly given the ridiculously silly nature of the crimes, but the claim that Tressel only won because he cheated is mass rationalization by Michigan fans. Just as the Michigan basketball program has taken its medicine (for far worse crimes than tatgate) and moved on, we have moved forward and the rest of the Big Ten is going to be in for a world of hurt.
By the way, how is Michigan perceived by the rest of the country? It has been irrelevant in football for six years and do their fans really think that the "Michigan Man" arrogance sits well with the rest of the country?

It's shameful, but yes, they do make t-shirts for the Capital One bowl. They make t-shirts for everything. Last year when OSU played in the "Tax-slayer Gator Bowl" they sold t-shirts for it.
And TTUN fans are counting Meyer's loss to them while he was at Florida to Meyer's record which was a lifetime ago and not relevant to record of The Game. But they're scared and grasping for straws... It's like if we would have counted Cooper's victory against TTUN when he wasn't Ohio State's coach.
I'd rather go to no bowl than the Crapital One Bowl, to be honest. I wouldn't feel a bit better about losing to TSUN if they were bowl banned. Especially if OSU was going to some meaningless non-BCS bowl.

People keep asking me if I'm mad that my team is undefeated and can't play for the title and my answer is absolutely not. I've known basically for a year now this team wasn't going to have a post season and I know people who comment here picked them to be 12-0 but I can't honestly think anyone seriously could of analyzed each game at the beginning of the year and honestly felt confident this team would win each game. Maybe they did, but I don't believe it. To me it's absolutely amazing what this team did.
They are talking as if we are fools for being excited over 12-0 and not caring about a bowl game. 12-0 is absolutely incredible for this team. Anyway. I just want to comment there and tell them Fuck off, have fun getting pounded by 40 against Florida or Georgia in your bowl game. We just went 12-0 and will be top 3 preseason and you are going to lose a 5th game and probably not even be ranked preseason next year.
I picked them to go 12-0 and I don't care who believes me. The only games that worried me preseason were MSU and Wisconsin, and rightfully so. I also think OSU will also go undefeated next year and will blow michigan out in ann arbor.
Next year they SHOULD win every game. Schedule is much weaker (hard to believe but it is) and you know they'll be much improved and have electric new players to insert into the lineup and all that . That being said 12-0 is improbably most years, so I won't hold my breath. Good news is, Urban + Great Talent + B1G totally sucks could = A Miami type run where they rattle off 35 games in a row. We'll see how it shakes out.

Agree 100%. I had a facebook friend (Iowa fan) speculate that Michigan might have let OSU win, to make the bowl ban sting even more. Absolutely ridiculous, but what do expect from fans of a team who's big rivalry game is Minnesota.

Exactly. With our schedule, while I didn't see a game on the schedule we couldn't win, I had figured they'd go 10-2 with a few hiccups due to experiening growing pains learning the new offensive system.
After the debacle that was the 2011 season and the shitty year in general starting in December 2010, it was cathartic this year just to be watching OSU win week in and week out where the future looks quite bright.
Everyone knew going into the season that a post-season ban was imposed, but it never took away from my enjoyment of win after win after win, and more importantly, it didn't take away from the players' fighting their asses off every week. I'm tired of the press trying to tell any of us how we should feel or questioning why we're not more pissed at Tressel or Pryor or Boom or anyone else. Fuck you. This season was awesome. It was a collective middle finger to the NCAA, to the sports press, and most importantly, to TSUN. And it's just a beginning as next year's going to be more of the same.
I will say though, the t-shirt was kind of funny. That kind of ribbing I think is fine. The ridiculousness of those commenters there talking about Tressel and cheating is annoying though. I'll never undestand why a program wants to compare major violations. Their cheating wasn't as bad as ours. Well in the NCAA's eyes they were both major violations.

Btalbert, i always think we can go undefeated but the benchmark is 10w's (or 11Ws if you're into that kind of thing...) and always has been. That being said, this is what makes scUM the bunch of losers they are; last year they were 11-1 with a bcs win, this year their own fans thought 9-3 would be a good season! If that's not settling for mediocrity then i don't know what is!!!? And too boot, they finish 8-4. I guess if you set your goals low enough, you're bound to be an "acheiver" or in this case, a m!chigan fan/player. #okwithlosing

Those numbers you cite are a bit misleading. They are being anchored by Rich Rod's first year as the Michigan HC with an APR score of 897. This low number is not necessarily Rich Rod's fault but is highly attributable to the large number of transfers that occurred from this coaching transition. Loyd Carr did not do him any favors offering transfers so easily before Rich Rod could come in and meet the players. Michigan's multiyear score will climb since there shouldn't be as many transfers from here on out. In fact Brady Hoke's first annual apr score for the football team was a 984. This was during a transition year no less.
As another side note that nobody here will care about Michigan men’s basketball is one of 11 schools -- and the only one in the Big Ten -- to have a perfect multi-year APR score.
With the above being said, one should recognize that tOSU is also an excellent academic institution. I will admit that I was blinded by bias and hate a number of years ago until I did some research. Mostly because I lived in Ohio at the time and had a daughter that could have been looking at going to tOSU based on her major and the lure of in state tuition. Props have to be given to the tOSU football team for being one of two B1G football teams recognized for being in the top 10% of their given sport. The other being Northwestern. I expect Michigan will be up their soon once the 897 is off the books. It will be good to have 3 schools at the top again.
I would also like to congratulate you guys on the hard won victory this past weekend. 12-0 is 12-0, it is a great feat to be proud of. Hopefully we will beat you guys next year.

No, just saying that it is misleading. One bad year based on a coaching change may be able to drag the multiyear score down. I do think that they need to fix the calculation for the APR score. If a kid transfers to another school and is in good academic standing there, it should not hurt your score. If he drops out or is in poor academic standing at the new institution then it should.
Of note though, APR scores are overrated and not a good comparison for schools. For one, it only is based on student athletes (scholarship) and not the student body as a whole. It also does not compare how rigorous the schools or majors are compared to each other. Just based on the individual. It is only one variable in a world of many. If you only look at the one, then UNC with all of its academic fraud was well on its way to a perfect 1000 APR with its fake classes.
Just an FYI, I gave you an upvote just now since I see where 2 people didn't like your post. Not sure why they do that when somebody has an opinion different than theirs.

I disagree with you about it being misleading as well as it being for the whole university. I wasn't really slamming Michigan as much as I was praising TOSU. There have been some transfers out of Michigan but not that many to account for that low of a score. I understand that this does not in any way reflect poorly on the university, I was simply speaking of the football program. In other words, Michigan shouldn't claim moral/academic superiority because IMO they recruit the same kids that other football factories do. Kids that quite honestly would have little to no chance of surviving in an institution of higher learning if not for them playing football. Also let's be quite honest that football players majors are not that rigorous, obviously there are exceptions. This is about the football team and not about the university as a whole. My point is to tell your football fans to stop acting like you are northwestern and your football team is filled with Rhodes Scholars.
@DetroitBuckeye, The 897 APR score is well documented due to transfer-fest under Rodriguez, but like I said, not entirely his fault. Loyd Carr posted a paltry 918 in his last year, but that isn't part of the current number's calculation. As a side note, I believe Justin Boren's transfer counted against that 897 score. His first of many Buckeye acts against Michigan.
IMO the APR score is really just a PR move by the NCAA to pretend college sports are still amateur sports and not big business. It is hard to imagine that unless a program suffers from athletes leaving early for professional sports, such as the one and dones in basketball, how they could even have a low score. Student-athletes are afforded more support than the average student that it seems they should be able to graduate. Not everyone is going to be a 4.0 or 3.0 student, but the schools are probably giving them more than enough to get their degree.
I will agree with you that academic standings don't really apply to major college sports, but when major publications like USNews rank you as the #17 best university in the world (#1 public university), higher than even Northwestern (#27), fans are bound to boast about it. It is just what they do and I guess it is their prerogative. At the end of the day though, it is about the end result on the field, and there is no denying, that goes to tOSU this year.

Good Lord this kid comes up with things that if you didn't know better you would think he was a 4th year junior. Have to wonder where his parents are, or better yet, where have they been. I personally feel like I have witnessed enough from this kid to know him. He is an arrogant dumbass.
