Pete Fiutak has Braxton Miller as heisman frontrunner

http://cfn.scout.com/2/1241951.html

Always a must read, Pete Fiutak grudgingly accepts BM5 as his heisman leader. Nice to see some national love for our guy. I have always wondered whether Fiu is a closet OSU fan.

I have too.  He is very fair to OSU.

He may not have seen the Wisconsin game, so nobody show it to him.

"So, NCAA, here’s my proposal to pitch to Ohio State. If the Buckeyes go unbeaten, they can be ranked in the BCS process. If they finish in the top two, then let them play in the BCS championship, but they have to forfeit the next five bowl paychecks. "

I'm ok with it...

I have scowered the interwebs trying to find out where Fiutak went to college to no avail.  They do a great job keeping it hush-hush.

Edit: I also think it's f'ing ridiculous not to have considered Braxton Miller THE Heisman frontrunner when he was destroying Ohio State records earlier in the year, and breaking the B1G's collective ankle along the way.  He was inarguably the most electric player.  He even had a few gems in the Wisconsin game.

Manziel is the leader ATM. With Klein the only other possible winner. Brax, Te'o, and Marqise Lee as the next three outside looking in but the only way any of them have a legitimate chance is if they have HUGE final games. I'm talking 400-500 yards total for brax.

The fact that Manti Te'o is being considered for the Heisman Trophy makes me want to vomit. Nothing about his statistics say Heisman candidate, so throw all hype out the window because obviously stats matter (example: Matt Barkley).

Braxton is by far the most exciting player to watch in NCAA football; however, I think Manziel or Klein have probably had a better season.

Don't give up... Don't ever give up.

He also has said previously that in the OSU and LSU championship game that OSU had the stronger resume and LSU was lucky to get the chance to play.

As far as his proposal, imagine the amount of good that would come if tOSU was allowed to play but donated the bowl proceeds to charity, instead of having a silly postseason ban. It owuld still hurt the administration, but not the rest of us fans.

(sigh)

I'm already getting ready for a world in which Manti Te'o-a linebacker getting severly outplayed by both RDS and Jarvis Jones-wins the Heisman. If he makes 1 or 2 impact plays against USC, mark my words he'll get the Heisman.

@Brewster

I'm preparing for a world in which a RS Freshman QB can shit the bed in 2 of his teams big time games and still be considered an Heisman frontrunner. Also, Manziel's stats when tied or losing by one score or less look something like this:

71/106 67% 659 Yds 6.2 YPA 0TDs 3 INTS and 7 Sacks

Yeah Johnny Football is not the guy I want leading my team to a comeback victory, and IMO is undeserving of the Hesiman

The argument people use when you bring up how Te'o's stats don't measure up to the elite level linebackers, is one of "what he means to his team". Get ready to hear that phrase A LOT (if you haven't already), especially if ND beats a Barkley-less USC this weekend to cap off an undefeated regular season.

Honestly some years I think the Heisman should be like the Pulitzer prize. If the committee decides that there are no truly deserving candidates, they don't award a winner.

I agree Tenn and its flawed. The Heisman isn't an MVP-it goes to the most outstanding player. I guess since ND is the hot story and Te'o is the face of the team, he's outstanding in that sense. His play hasn't been great. He picked off two Denard Arm punts and found himself on the right end of a few more tipped passes. RDS has made more impact plays. TFL\Yards\Sacks\Solos\PD's. Everything. I'm not proposing that Shazier be a Heisman favorite but Te'o isn't either. I have a real problem that Klein might be out because of his bad game against Baylor too. He's played otherwise great ball.

Manziel is the hot name and his games against LSU and Florida were far enough away (and not big time prime time broadcasts if I'm not mistaken) that people may have actually forgotten it.

I'm telling you, undefeated ND in the BCS title game after the USC win, and a great, inspirational, exploitable story to go with it....Te'o strikes the pose.

Don't think Manti desveres it from a football standpoint. However, if he wins it it will be quite the story. Like you said, that's probably the main reason he would win, his story. Emotional leader of lone bowl-eligible undefeated team, girlfriends dies of cancer, Teo endures through it and plays an incredible season.

High-character guy + Very Good stats + Constantly in the headlines = Post season awards

Brewster - Just curious, who do you think deserves the award this year?

BrewstersMillions's picture
BrewstersMillions on 20 Nov 2012 - 5:33pm #

Most recent Shazier\Te'o comparison.

RS-109 tackles, 67 solo, 14.5 TFL's for 64 yards lost, 4 sacks, 1 INT (TD), 10 PD's, 3 FF and 3 QB Hurries.

MT-98 tackles, 49 solo, 1.5 sacks, 6 INT, 4 PD, 0 FF, 3 QB hurries

Cincy-just saw your question.

Colin Klein.

Brewster - I would be ok with Klein. In all honesty, I still think Geno Smith is the most deserving(minus the K State game). It's not his fault he has to play on a team with a junior high flag football defense. I'm just so tired of the fact that this award has turned into either 1) the "best" player on the best team or 2) the current flavor of the week. I was hoping we turned a corner last year when RGIII won the award but it looks like we are back to the same old BS.

BrewstersMillions's picture
BrewstersMillions on 20 Nov 2012 - 5:39pm #

And I'm not saying that isn't a great story-the guy has been through hell and has played well but even in terms of the other awards he's up for, he's getting out played.

Heisman be damned. Dude is up for the Maxwell and Bednarik and isn't worthy of either. His year isn't that great-if we are awarding fantastic play and not a fascinating story, the guy shouldn't get what he is getting.

Cincy, I will say this-if Te'o does win it, I will be happy only that it didn't go to the "Best QB\RB on a really good team" like it does most every year-with last year's RGIII win of course being different. Smith has a case, he has almost RGIII like numbers.

Manziel is on the verge of breaking the SEC record for offensive yardage (166 behind Cam Newton's record).  38 TDs and over 4,100 yards of offense.

I think Braxton gets invited, but finishes 4th or 5th.  Not bad for a soph.

I agree with you guys. Te'o is getting it for the story.  It has turned into a popularity contest and will no longer mean a thing.

The domers with a possibility of stealing a NCG and a Heisman in the same season. WTF?

"You're pissed because we went after a committed guy? Guess what, we got 9 guys who better go do it again," said Meyer. "Do it a little harder next time."
