If I could pick the 3 teams that will inevitably be part of the B1G I would choose Notre Dame, Kansas and Georgia Tech. All AAU members. Further depletes the ACC and Big XII. B1G presence right smack in SEC Country. That would make me grin widely.

I would take Rutgers, UNC, and Texas. All AAU members, all giant freaking money machines for the conference. Texas is good at football already, Rutgers and UNC are both loaded with potential. Potential can always fail, but I'd take that risk for the payoff.
Screw Notre Dame.
Rutgers = NYC market. Texas = state of Texas market. Georgia Tech gives us Atlanta area.
Notre Dame can screw themselves. Kansas would be a football cupcake, but be careful what you wish for come basketball season.
Class of 2010.
Rutgers does not get you the NY market because it is more pro sports period. That is why the school is strugling to get the talent they got now.
ND can take a fling leap cause as mini times as we have tried to as them to come in and they said NO! I say let them fall.
Texas would be a good get but to get them you will have to bring some other schools with them. Teaxs will not put there big boy pants on and come alone they have to have someone hold there hand and they are control freaks too. I.E. the long horn network.
First of All I think we are only taking two more schools and I am hoping they will be North Carolina and Georgia Tech. These two would get us in SEC Country and provide decent football and in North Carolina's case great basketball competition
Rutgers can get BTN into NY tv market if Newscorp completes purchase of YES network. The 2 networks will be bundled to force cable providers to take BTN. Delany isn't stupid. He would not be making move on Rutgers unless he is sure it will pay off.
I wouldn't mind NC and Ga Tech being final 2.
Georgia Tech will not give you the Atlanta market. I'm sorry, I just don't see it. Atlanta is a southern, football-crazed city, but they're firmly entrenched within the SEC. A Geogia/Ole Miss matchup would own that market even if Georgia Tech was playing OSU or UM in that same timeslot. Like it or not, GT doesn't move the needle like UGA does in-state. The only way I can see this changing is if UGA falls of the edge of the Earth (not likely) and Paul Johnson's Flexbone option attack flat-out dominates the B1G (really not likely, though I love me some flexbone). It's much easier to create/establish a culture than it is to completely change it, and that's what you'll be facing in Atlanta with Geogia Tech. Now, if we landed UGA it might be different, but they don't fit our academic profile.
Give me ND and Texas. Texas's Longhorn Network debacle will help them see the light (and MASSIVE distribution of its product across major population centers), and ND will (hopefully) have an offer that they cannot refuse with the kind of revenue the BTN will provide them.
Well it looks like Rutgers is a done deal, so decrease my list to GT and ND. Texas can go to the Pac-12.
vacuuming sucks
My expansion wish list: This was all a bad dream and the B1G lives happily ever after with twelve teams. *sigh*
Agree with you Hodge about the Atlanta market, but as we have been discussing it's about getting the BTN in the SouthEast (if it isn't already) and becoming more firmly entrenched in SEC Country for recruiting.
I know that ND is contentious, but there is absolutely no doubt that it would be a grand slam to add them to the B1G(6).
vacuuming sucks
I know everything is based off of football but I would love to see Texas and UNC. It gives the B1G a football powerhouse(Texas) and a decent program of late(UNC) and also gives the B1G two great baseketball programs. I think that would be a win-win
As Benedict Arnold himself (Bo Shembechler) once said, "To hell with Notre Dame. I wouldn't take Notre Dame in the Big Ten if they came crawling and begging. To hell with them."
"Buclkle your chinstrap, we're gonna grind meat!" - Woody Hayes
If I could get any two other teams at this point, I would probably take Texas and Tennessee. Texas, obviously, would be the biggest money grab possible for the B1G. Tennessee, because it would hurt the SEC (to an extent), they're a giant just waiting to rebound, and it would again expand that B1G footprint a little further south, but not so far it is in crazy town.
Both are highly unlikely, but again, this is a wish list, right?

um, BSLATCO...two great basketball squads? http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=323242124
@OldColumbusTown - I was listening to the radio yesterday and they talked about how Tennessee coming to the Big Ten would make a lot of sense, especially for Tennessee. They were talking about how the emergence of some SEC powers, and South Carolina and such have actually hurt Tennessee and their recruiting. They are really in a position where coming to the Big Ten helps them both financially and competitively. The only issue is academically. UT is not AAU, but it doesn't seem like they'd be a total misfit. I don't know. US News & World Report has them ranked 101st nationally of all universities (which for reference - OSU is 55th, and Nebraska, who is no longer AAU, is 96th).
Interesting fact - Tennessee to the Big Ten = Big Ten has the four largest stadiums in college football. Tennessee is currently the only non-Big Ten school with one of the top four largest stadiums.
Class of 2010.
Yeah, Tennessee is rarely mentioned as a viable B1G candidate, and I have a hard time understanding why. I'll admit, I know little about the Tennessee culture, specifically on the academic side of things, but it just seems to me like they are more of a fit in the B1G than they are the SEC.
The Vols obviously have a huge, rabid fanbase. Some pretty big cities in the state, including Nashville and Memphis (as well as Knoxville, obviously), which would give the B1G some more fertile recruiting ground. I think this is an overlooked possibility but one that, to me, makes sense.

Notre Dame is not aau, kansas is worse at sports than a lot of schools and GT is too far. I think we go after virginia and north carolina.
Tennessee? In what conceivable universe would one of the SEC's marquee names head to the Big Ten? I don't even know if Missouri, which is much more of a cultural fit with the B1G than with their current "rivals," would consider it at this point, since they now have a good chance of landing one of those championships-by-association that are so popular in Dixie.
I tend to agree with what Hodge said about Georgia Tech and Atlanta, which is why I suspect UNC is a better bet to join us in time. It's academically stellar, and while North Carolina doesn't have the one massive focal point like Georgia does, the states are nearly equal in population.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
We did say this was a wish list, right? Lol.
But seriously, the only plausible way I think Tennessee considers a move is the fact they'd (in their minds) instantly move up toward the top of the B1G power structure (in football, and right up there in basketball as well). That may not necessarily be completely accurate, but I think Tenn would believe it. They are not a viable SEC program right now. The end of Fulmer's tenure, Kiffin's mockery, and this 3-year failed venture with Dooley have really, really set them back when compared with the other SEC programs.
Alabama, Georgia, Florida, LSU, South Carolina are all in significantly better positions to succeed now and in the future than Tennessee. Arkansas and Auburn are also not far removed from some very good seasons and very good recruiting classes. Vandy is on the rise with Franklin, Miss State with Mullen, etc. Tennessee has some big decisions to make with their football program.
I don't know - maybe somebody with closer ties to that state and the state of that program (TennBuckeye??) would know the general feeling in the Volunteer State to how they fit in with the rest of the SEC.

Screw ND!! Shouldn't ever let them in!
You have to hate losing more than you love winning! GO BUCKS!!
ND and Texas ... why? Both bring tradition and a program that is continually in the national spotlight and a solid program (as long as Brian Kelly is at Notre Dame they are for now).
JT
Just say no to Texas and ND
Why not Syracuse and Missouri (neither would go, but like you said, a wish list)
