Mike Katzenmitchell?

This kid might be Katzenmoyer 2.0 looks more agile and just as fast...maybe not as big... I love his dedication and the fact his father is a big footbal guy.

Imagine what he looks like a couple years into the program. Mike, COME TO OHIO STATE!!! He seems like a quality kid and his motivation is to play on Sunday. Fingers remain crossed on this one.

A few years in Marotti's system and this guy will be a warp driven bulldozer.

I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.

Hate to burst the bubble but Mitchell is not gonna have nearly the same impact that Katzenmoyer had. Big Cat was as physically gifted as you will ever see coming out of High School, size, speed ect he was %100 ready for NCAA. ( probably NFL also) I am 40 years old and I have watched alot of Bucyeye Football and I've never seen a better collegiate LB than Katzenmoyer! He had an unheard of Freshman year and a dominating 97' Rose Bowl performance- If I recall he had 2 int's, 3 sacks, 11 tackles as a true freshman!!! He was a beast that day in Pasadena  and ASU had no answer for him. I like Mitchell and I think and hope he will be a great LB at OSU but I think he needs 15-20 pounds and I seriously doubt he has that type freshman season.

Can we all chill out a little bit?  Freakish athlete? Yes.  Even freakisher athlete under Marotti? Yes. Any guarantee he'll be the QB we need on D AS A FRESHMAN, or to compare him to arguably the best OSU LB'er, ever? Hell no.  Hopefully I'm dead wrong.

Yeah. I agree with ADAMANT. The Big Kat was a once in a decade or two type LB. He was a new breed of elite LB.

I love the idea of getting Mitchell though. Hope he does end up Kat-like.

Royball... here's the difference I don't think Katzenmoyer was close to being the best all-time linebacker at tOSU. not even in the league of a Spielman, Pepper Johnson, Hawk, Laurinaitis etc because of his football IQ vs theirs. Yes he made the biggest early splash with help from one of the best D lines we've ever had. I never felt like he grew as much as a player over his time here that we all expected after that awesome freshman year. I think he developed and peaked so early (had a NFL body at 17) but was a little over-hyped. just my opinion.

To me Katzenmoyer had many things, but most notably elite strength (being 260 lbs of solid muscle certainly helps haha). Though Mitchell has a big frame (6'4" I believe), to me his style of play is closer to Laurinaitis's if we're making OSU comparisons (elite lateral speed, sure tackler). You never know with a few years, but I don't think they'll try to make him gain 30-40 lbs (he's currently listed between 215-220) of muscle to become a Katzenmoyer-strong type based simply on the fact that the modern game is largely about defending the spread, and not a lot of people could retain Katzenmoyer-speed at that weight. Most of Alabama's LBs (who are known for being heavier, run-stuffing types) are around 245 at the max.

D. Anthony- When you put it that way, I understand the comparison you're trying to make.  I should amend that 'best ever' to 'one of* the best ever'.  However, the book on thd kid is that until recently, he was considered to be an athlete playing LB, and really became a more complete football player this year.  For that reason, I do worry about him picking up the D, considering the difficulty guys seem to have had picking up this defense.  I realize there's a TON of different reasons for that (shift from previous cover 3 to cover 4, inexperience, etc.), and I don't want to set limits on what a guy can and can't do before he even suits up (or commits!), but I worry that considering the amount of hype fans have been putting on the kid, they're setting him up to fail in their eyes if he doesn't make an immediate impact.

I would ecstatic to see him in the S&G, but I wouldn't write off the guys we've got on the roster right now.  Cannot WAIT to see the class of '12 linebackers get on the field on D.
