Urban learned from Earle Bruce who learned from Woody Hayes. Thus (and as we've seen), Urban HATES michigan. He's an Ohio guy. He gets the rivalry, he knows the history. With that in mind, let's say we win this weekend against Wisconsin. Then let's say we are beating Michigan by a lot late in the game (we can only hope). Then we score another touchdown. With no bowl game, does Urban go for two?

Yes.
The 2012 National Champions.
This is the only case where going for two is not only acceptable, its encouraged.
"Because the rules won't let you go for three." - Woody Hayes
THE Ohio State University
I'll take this, and be happy as as can be. 2 challenging games ahead, and the Michig@n game can never be taken for granted.
If Urban did go for 2 you know Woody would be proud
O H I O is the Buckeye State
i think Urban should do it and i'm guesing flounders reaction looks something like this.....
All the games of the season are just practices for that glorious saturday in November when we get to jack Shoelace's invisible cereal bowl and drink our fill of delicious skunkweasel tears ...Michigan Still Sucks!!
sorry for the extra crap in the photo, there are times i think google hates me.. and i'm not terribly savvy in cropping photos

I would snort skittles if he would do it! Man would that piss off some ppl I know. Awesome.
Bury me in my away jersey, with my buckeye blanket. A diehard who died young. Rip dad.
Snorting skittles would be even awesomer..

Awesome to think about this scenario...I can just see Urban holding up two fingers after a TD.
Only if he can't go for 3
Really think this Wisconsin game is going to be enough to think about but IF OSU can get to that scenario, then hell yeah, go for 2...then do an onside kick.
Abso-smurfly.
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
I dunno, it was kind of Woody's thing...
Isn't almost encroaching upon his legacy at that point? I mean, it would be cool n' all, but wouldn't it look like he was trying too hard to endear himself?
Conversely, this is football, and a heated rivalry. Let's build some character and give them a nasty taste in their mouth for the next 365 days.
It would be a great way to pay Homage to a person he looks up to. In all actuality, I think Urbz breaks out the whip on Bert and Flounder over the next two weeks. This team is going to be fired up.
-The Aristocrats!
I don't care what he does as long as we end the season 12-0 and beat them like readheaded step children.
He would not go for 2. Remember the Georgia prance & dance in the end zone when they scored their first TD and ended up beating the Urbz Florida....and remember what happened the following year? Urban is a respect guy, I don't see him ever doing that or tempting the karma football gods.
Just remember, guys, that when Woody went for 2 it rubbed enough salt in the wound that M*chigan went out and hired a guy named, oh let me see.....hmmm.... Schembechler, I think. Who beat us the next year, cost us the Nat'l championship, and had a winning record against Woody. With UFM being a student of history, I personally hope he would not tempt the football gods.
P.S. Don't get me wrong, I loved that Woody went for it. Just don't want to tempt karma again. Agree with Phxbuck.
"Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read." - Groucho Marx
I'd rather him do something to carve his own OSU legacy. Be the first head coach to drop 100 on Michigan?
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
If it means Hyde getting his 1,000 yards, definately.
This will happen and I love that you put it into a thread. Take it to the bank....it's ON!
"There's nothing that cleanses your soul like getting the hell kicked out of you."
"I love football. I think it is most wonderful game in world and I despise to lose."
Woody Hayes 1913 - 1987
He should go for 2, and when he meets Hoke at midfield, tell him to remember that it was Ohio STATE that blew out his team.
Only because he can't go for 3.
Let's be honest... If he doesnt we will all be disappointed! RUN IT UP!!!!!!
I though Woody went for 2 because the kicker was injured leaving him no choice but to go for 2 since he couldn't go for 3? Please correct me if I'm wrong but I think I saw this on STO where they interviewed players from this game. Key work though is I think.
It makes me sick how far people are looking ahead... SMH.
@Buckeyevet Was going to post the same thing. Everyone remembers the beatdown but many forget that going for two fueled enough fire in UM the following year, that they beat what was probably one of the greatest OSU teams ever.It ruined a NC season the next year. Does any of this sound familiar? As much as I would love to see it and laugh at the UM, remember we have to go play there next season for a chance to win a title. They dont need any buliten board material.
"I'll fire when I'm god damn good and ready! You got that?" - Pete "Maverick" Mitchel
god i wish i could go to THE GAME
JT and all kinds of great recruits will be there, the fans will be going nuts, and if all goes according to plan OSU wins in dominating fashion.
I really don't understand why people expect to blow out Michigan. It will be a close game.
I'm not sure if anyone else remembers this, but early on this winter, all the assistant coaches got a buckeye football "history lesson" of sorts, and I remember that they were all tweeting about the going for 2 incident, and they LOVED IT. On a day when I don't have a chem exam, I'll peruse through their twitter feeds and post it. on this day, and only on this day, chem 121>woody
that would be amazing
Maybe the best Bob Ross painting never before seen...
We all know that Meyer "gets" the rivalry, and thanks to 11W's profiles on his brand of sports psychology, we can all safely assume that he instills the passion of this great rivalry into his players from day one. I am sure both he and his team will be motivated. But, doesn't anyone find it weird that Meyer had an out clause in his Utah contract that he could leave for ND, OSU or Michigan without penalty?
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=1936781
"Coaching the Fighting Irish would have entailed high expectations and tough academic standards. Notre Dame fired Tyrone Willingham on Tuesday after three seasons, and immediately targeted Meyer -- whose contract included a clause allowing him to leave for a job at Notre Dame, Ohio State or Michigan."
What kind of true OSU coaching heir would have the desire to consider the Michigan job and the foresight to put this clause into his contract? Again, he says all the right things to appeal to the OSU fan base. But it certainly seems like his primary goal as a younger coach was to win this rivalry game, but he didn't seem to care which side he was on.
I suspect that if OSU and Michigan had offered him simultaneously, he would have chosen the Buckeyes due to his Ohio roots and time on the staff in the 80's. But, it doesn't seem fair to hold him up to Woody's standard of emotional investment in the rivalry. If anything, Hoke's understanding of the rivalry and his over-the-top, never-wear-scarlet disdain for OSU is far more Hayes-esque than anything Meyer ever demonstrated.
Am I reading too much into this? I don't question his dedication to OSU or winning The Game, just the assumption that this rivalry is somehow ingrained in every fiber of his being the way it was with Woody. I submit that if he goes for two, it will be because he's playing to the fanbase and not because he couldn't go for three.
Everyone saying that I'm looking ahead to Michigan: I'm not at all. I was just watching the OSU-Michigan HBO special last night and it got me thinking. Wisconsin does worry me and I actually think Michigan will be close. This, as the title says, was purely hypothical
I tend to agree with you Tones. There does seem to be a certain pandering element (that word is a little strong, but I'm not smart enough to think of another) regarding Meyer and Michigan, and it makes sense given that he has a knack for saying everything fans want to hear. At times it seems a tad forced. Nevertheless, I do believe he truly does strongly dislike Michigan.
Tones: Michigan is a destination job in college football, same as OSU. These types of openings don't come along often. Why do you think Bo went to Michigan? He wasn't a Michigan man, he most likely realized that Woody wasn't retiring anytime soon and that Michigan was too good a job to pass up. Urban most likely had those outs in his contracts for the same reason, they are the best jobs in football (although I believe Ohio State is obviously the best). Look at OSU since the Woody era, if the ND job was offered, do you pass and wait for OSU knowing it may be 10-15 years before the job is available?
Just remember, According to Conan the Barbian what is best in life is to "Crush your enemies, see them driven before you! And to hear the lamentations of Deir women!"
Didn't Urban's book echo similar sentiments? Basically that those 3 schools would trump any other if an offer was extended?
I personally think he respects Michigan, but his distaste will grow exponentially as he and Hoke are embedded further in the rivalry. As long as Michigan doesn't collapse when Mattison leaves, I think this will be the closest thing to the 10 year war since the 10 year war.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!

I say keep the pedal down and send Brady & Company back where they belong with tears in their eyes.
That being said I agree with HODGE, it was sort of Woody's thing ... Urban needs to find his own niche as far as hating Michigan.
Woody had the going for two thing, Bruce had it by going out on top against 'em, Cooper's niche was losing to them and Tressel's niche was continually dominating for almost a full decade.
And DANNYBEANE ...... that was a great pull from Conan, bravo!
Go Bucks!
JT
Meyer had the same escape clause at BG for OSU and ND, I don't remember hearing about TSUN, but that doesn't mean that it wasn't in there. I agree with cbus, TSUN is a destination job-TSUN is a strong and storied program, ugh. Plus, simply because the escape clause was in his contract didn't mean that he would take it-it gave him the option to ponder it. If I understand correctly, that type of clause is not that unusual. Wasn't there talk that he turned down the ND position a few years when they approached him while he was at Florida? Anyway, Meyer goes balls to the wall for any team that he coaches, and their enemies become his enemies. But come on, he is a master motivator, he does get the OSU/TSUN rivalry and has embraced it, as he did grow up rooting for and coaching at OSU.
hail, I thought Jabba was the head coach, not Mattison? Interesting statement you made, a Freudian slip, perhaps?
Not a Freudian slip at all. Mattison has been a savior on the defensive side of the ball. There is a direct tie-in with Hoke's success, to this point. That's not to say that Hoke isn't a great coach, but I have my concerns for when Mattison calls it quits.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!
~Bo Schembechler
^^^Your right Hail. Of all coaches there - Mattison has definitely made the biggest difference.
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
And hoke has made the largest!
Ba Dum Bump!
GO FOR 2! That would be some seriously awesome buckeye lore!
I wanna see him score go for 2 get it then onside kick it and get the ball back
