No worries, Hoke will be able to chow down tonight. Fitzgerald & #15 on defense for NW made sure of that.
Teams should really consider working on defending the lobs that michigan continues to ride to victory.
If I were being recruited by NW, today's game, a typical play not to lose, p*ssy performance by that school with the game on the line, I would end said recruitment and head to another academic bastion that plays football... if any would have me (i.e.. Stanford, ND, Vanderbilt). Fitzgerald, a coach for whom I think it would be fun to play, and a guy who seems to be a pretty good dude, has a bad habit of playing not to lose as opposed to playing to win... which is what losers do. They needed one last first down in regulation to put the game away and opted to run three pathetic, half assed attempts at football plays before a rotten punt gave michigan the ball back with 18 seconds remaining. The rest is history, and the outcome is typical of a NW team... another close loss. Harbaugh and Stanford proved that stringent academic standards do not prevent a school from winning big time football games, but NW seems content with 7 win seasons and second tier bowl games in a weak B1G...
Gardner is a better passer, but their offense is still far more dangerous with Denard in the game. They have zero rushing attack with Gardner in there.
i think northwestern's use of the option makes them tough to defend schematically, but colter is a tough runner who hardly ever gets stopped at the LOS, even when there's contact there. today he seemed to get tackled for 4 yards on half of his rushing attempts, even when defenders got hands on him early. obviously we have more talent surrounding our signal caller than nw, but i don't think braxton is significantly better with his legs (not an insult to either player). both terribly frustrating to defend, and always get their yards one way or another
If Hoke didn't have Greg Mattison michigan would be an average team. For a team with high expectations this team will end up with at least 5 loses.

props to hoke for the hire. don't know much about the defensive position coaches, but they seem to be doing a good job too. will be curious to see how we match up to them when both coaching staffs have their recruited players developed and starting

I do feel like Michigan has been stuck with denard. He isnt the type of qb they need for the system but he is too electric not to play. I always thought they would get better once they moved on and it looks like i might be right. Once they get a good passing qb and a strong rb they will be pretty good. Right now I just dont think they have the right backfield.
