MgoBlog Breaks Down the Buckeyes

Figured this might merit some interest.1

For me, I thought a very intriguing (and concerning) point is Michigan's utilization of Kovacs in run support; here's hoping that Miller, Herman, and Meyer (along with the rest of the offense) are hitting that Wisconsin tape hard this week.

Yes, I understand it's from enemy territory.  It's still a good read, and an excellent companion piece to Ross's work.

I'm certainly expecting Ohio State to go over the top more if TTUN loads up the box like Wisconsin did. We had success over the top last year (aside from Braxton's occasional overthrow) and it is the only way to get those safeties back in coverage. Meyer said they will use it whether it works or not to keep the DBs honest.

Good breakdown. I tend to think we will have much greater success with Hyde running inside than we will with deep passes. Mattison has done a noteworthy job with their D, he knows Urban's scheme very well, and Braxton isn't exactly Joe Germaine when passing the ball.

@ DMCDOUGAL - I think that OSU tried to stick to a pretty dull gameplan against Wisconsin.  Partially out of necessity (to control clock and punch the defense in the mouth), partially to play mistake-free football, and partially to not tip our hand for The Game.  I think that we're going to bust out a whole new round of constraint plays if UM defenders are caught cheating out of position.

@Hodge - I hope so. I think you're right about mistake-free football. Braxton seemed timid and self-conscious both passing and running. They also didn't feature Carlos Hyde as much as I was expecting. I am looking for any leash on Braxton to be removed and hoping that he plays with more aggression than he did last Saturday. The downfield pass is crucial to this offense, which I'm thinking is going to have to put up at least 4 scores to beat TTUN.

In reading this it is easy to see why 11W is becoming the "home" for so many scUM fans too. Rather than give explanations at that site, they simply steer them here to get the proper info straight from Ross as opposed to give the effort in offering it up themselves. Hard to beat the best. All the scUM fans here secretly desire to be Buckeyes anyway, we all know it. I feel so dirty after looking there. I must shower now.

Funny you bring that name up specifically. When Urban Meyer was hired, the first place my mind went was the Michigan game, and specifically to Jordan Kovacs. Here's a guy universally loved in Michigan because he's a walk on who plays hard and blah blah blah all that crap.

What he also can be is a HUGE liability in coverage. I immediatley thought "Meyer will put an absolute bullseye on that guys back" the same way he did with Jamario O'Neal in the BCSNC game.

Now, he can sit in the box comfortably and make form tackle after form tackle against OSU and slow their run game down but I'd be shocked if the Meyer\Herman brain trust didn't attack him specifically in the passing game

From reading that article on MGo, it appears that Kovacs is the only guy on their defense. Most teams usually play eleven guys, right?

I'm just really worried about Hank and Simon. I hope they get blood transfusions between possessions because after all, this is the game that so much blood is to be shed, right? That bitch made freshman sure talked a big game about this week much to the delight of Michigan mouth breathers (MEAN STREAKSSSS!)....

OSU's top tier freshman have played and contributed. What has he done?

I'll take your word that it was a good article. If I go to that site those damn wolverine adds will start poping up on my 11w browser.

"I attended the OSU-UW game.   "My astute observations... I left the game in much better spirits regarding THE GAME.  I think we match up well with OSU, and I usually have pessimist leanings.    I think our OL vs. their DL decides this game.

BTW, Buckeye fans are a-holes.   I sat near the Buckeye student section, and I can accept the fact that they were a-holes.  No harm done there.  But the Badger fan I chatted with after the game was almost in tears over the behavior of non-student Buckeye fans in her vicinity."
