Strong isn't what will keep him in Louisville. Kids from Louisville are typically VERY loyal to their city. If Louisville really does still lead for his services he'll go there no matter what Strong does. I'm skeptical that they are still number 1, it was a local guy he told said that to. He won't follow Strong anywhere, it'll be Louisville or Ohio State.
I half agree. I don't think he follows Strong, but there's a good chance that if his main contact at Louisville is gone and the program swings into a period of uncertainty, he may just see it as a reason to leave home.
I even think Bridgewater would be more of a reason for Quick to go to UofL than Strong. Being a great receiver and knowing you'll have 2 years of Teddy at QB, that would be hard to turn down. That guy can flat sling it.
If I'm a recruit I'll take my chances with the school that picked up the nations top ranked Dual Threal QB in my recruiting class, at the school with the insane game atmosphere, where even when talent leaves, they reload with the best of em.
I don't disagree, but if you combine the opportunity to put up insane numbers your first 2 years, and it's your hometown, even if the coach leaves it's a strong pull. Anyway, my point was that I think the awesome QB he'll be playing with his first 2 years at the school is more a draw than Charlie Strong.
That may be, but inherently, OSU is sort of a huge draw in and of itself, and he sees that, you can tell

I literally see no chance that Quick would go all the way to Auburn just because the coach that left his hometown went there. More than just being coaches he is close to, Lousville and OSU share that they are both geographically convenient for him, and they are both programs on the upswing, or at least that built positive momentum over the past year. Aurburn is far, and terrible, and recruit illegally.

I think Quick is concerned about disappointing the locals by selecting tOSU.
Teddy Bridgewater is what would keep Quick at L'ville.
OSU has Braxton and he is a great QB but d'ville has a nice QB too and is close to home. If they did not have Bridgewater and had a terrible QB it would be a non decision Quick would be a Buckeye IMO.
Quick is either going to Louisville or Ohio State. Not Auburn.
Believe it or not Kentucky could climb back in it. Strong leaves Louisville would give the relief from the stress put on him mainly from his father to attend UL. He is on record saying he would put UK at the top if they had chosen Petrino as head coach. Again this is a case where his father likes Petrino but this also means the UL vs UK rivalry is not a big deal in the decision. Bottom line is he wants to stay close to home is his #1 priority along with which team is most likely to be able to get him to the NFL. Ohio State and UL was the only 2 that fit the equation above. Now with UK what looks like a great hire in HC and OC I believe UK enters the race legitimately and even moreso if Strong leaves.
I think Quick would follow Strong to UT because of their pass happy offense... I don't see him going to Auburn or Arkansas.
I'm thinking there is more to this story than we know... He almost commits then he goes home and says L'ville is #1????? To be honest... If he goes to L'ville I hope we end up playing them and Vonn Bell or Darron Lee catches him on a slant across the middle.
I'm getting sick of seeing all this hype for OSU then going home and saying L'ville is the leader. I might be a little bitter, but if he doesn't want to go to OSU then go ahead and commit to L'ville so we can move on to Stevens or Timmons.
geez man, he is just honestly answering questions that reporters are asking him. I know we all want these kids to commit early, but cut him some slack. Its a big decision, and he should take his time. I imagine he is a bit confused and feels a lot of pressure, its only natural that he would have good feelings toward both schools
Most likely suffering from anxiety. All indications are that he wants to stay close to home. The only thing that doesnt make sense is Oregon This tells me he will take free trips I see absolutely 0% chance he goes to Oregon.
Why wouldn't you take free trips? If I was a recruit with an OSU offer, I'd calmly call Urban and say, "hey, I'm committing right now, but keep it silent until I get back from UCLA, Stanford, UC-Boulder, and Hawaii.

I understand that he might be confused... That's where the parents should step in and tell him to tell reporters he likes both schools. Very simple solution.
Drew Barker handled the situation correctly... He really liked South Carolina and thought about committing, but when he went home and talked to reporters he just said he liked a few schools. Didn't name a #1. Very easy way to handle things.
One problem could be that Quick's dad is a former Louisville player (from what I've read) and is really pushing him to stay home (as are many in his family circle). If Louisville is being pushed on him 24/7, I imagine it would be hard to not name them #1.
Who cares how HE handles HIS life. He has shown zero indications of being any sort of media hound or primadona...he genuinely seems to be torn between the two schools. Maybe you should stop worrying so much about what a 17/18 year old kid is thinking.
I agree He is not a media hound at all. But all Tenn did was state a fact of one of the things that tears him. He didnt say anything bad. What he said was true and I did not take it as insulting at all toward him.
I also agree with you. It is a very tough choice for a kid. Like I said I truly think he shows signs of anxiety about it all.
Cincy - I'm not sure if your remarks were for me or not, but I 100% do not feel Quick is a diva or media hound or anything of the sort. He's got a tough decision to make. I would love to see him in Columbus, but if he doesn't come to OSU, that's fine and I wish him the best.

These guys do so many interviews and everything they say is put into print. He could love Louisville and maybe that's his favorite team, but may still end up comitting to Ohio State. After he got home, people were probably freaking out on him because of his comments about almost committing so when they guy got home and had another interview with a hometown guy he professed his love for UofL.
Not every reacts the same way, and I don't think Barker is a fair comparison. He's interested in schools that aren't in the town he lives in. it's a different situation.

SEC - I don't care in a personal way, I just don't get how some ppl think sometimes. Downvoting if negative or a wild, crazy opinion is one thing. But to do it for basic, matter of fact comments is kind of absurd IMO and shows something personal against the poster. There are pleny of ppl whose views I dont like, but I don't downvote EVERY single post they create.
I'm with you Blazer. I am trying to pick a college right now (obviously not with full ride offers) and it is difficult. I can't even imagine how hard it would be to pick when you have to consider academics, career placement, and athletics

Guys, high school recruits shouldn't have to have a PR manager (parents) to make sure WE don't get upset. They ar high school kids trying to figure out their next stage in life. If a reporter asked a question and they answer it HONESTLY, get over it.
It is relaly sad to see grown men nitpick at what a 16-18 year old kid says or doesn't say. We are STALKING these kids (yes me too) because we hope to gain insight. WE hang on to and read into every word. I don't know if some people get the fact they really don't care what you or I think because we cdon't matter. And if they do, they are playing with us because we are too consumed and trollable.
Give these kid a break, they are not the problem, we are.
At the end of the day, I don't think Quick, other recruits or the coaches give a shit about what our opinions are on recruiting and how to run the team lol. It is funny to hear how people make character judgements about kids because of tweets, quotes, and sound bites.

I've posted about Mid West Recruiting's Twitter account before and people think it's a hack... But they just tweeted there are rumors floating that James Quick gave Urban and OSU a silent verbal after THE GAME... Believe what you want... That's just the tweet I read.

This reminds me of the Diggs situation from last year as far as it being a kid who really seems to like Buckeyes, campus, tradition, Urban, etc. but is really drawn as well to hometown team and the mystique that carries. I have to agree with BTALBERT25 in that Strong's presence and status may not have as much to do with it as we think (I certainly did for a long time). I look for this to go to NLOI day and for it to be really up in the air until then, even with James himself.
Ive been hearing the same about a silent verbal that his parents have given him the blessing and have decided themselves that tOSU is the best place for James. I dont believe at this point Strong leaving or going will have the effect everyone is still stating esp since ppl very close to this situation have said hell be a buckeye or perhaps already is.
@Evanston - difference between Diggs and Quick is Urban has had an entire calender year to build a relationship instead of a matter of weeks with Diggs and he still almost pulled that one off. Trust Urban hes the best closer in the game for a reason think of him as the Mariano Rivera of recruiting if you will and hes taken over James recruitment personally a few months back thats when everything about this situation changed towards the Buckeyes.

What does not make sense is James Quick winning Gatorade award for Ky and in Kentucky with votes from the coaches that play against him he does not receive even his districts POY honor. I think the Gatorade and recruiting sites is more of a popularity contest. I have even heard within Trinity high schools team 2-3 kids are considered more valuable including another receiver?
Some of that has to come from jealosy and there also has to be a part truth.

Okay I can handle that. Maybe someone else could try to imagine why a Charley Walker from St X got player of the year in Quicks District over Quick and Quick gets Gatorade POY. My opinion is that Gatorade probably doesnt even know of Walker and only knows of the highly publicized. Also I believe there is some jealosy on the local front against Mr Quick. WALKER got POY in Quicks district as voted on by opposing coaches who played against both players. I believe that is more relevant unless their are alterior motives. EXAMPLE. Elliott got POY for his district and also statewide for his school size. My question was quite simple. Why couldnt Quick get POY in his District? I threw out a couple guesses. Quick is 100% going to be a buckeye, what people don't understand is Trinity is basically in Louisville back yard. It would not be a popular decision at his school if he committed to some one other then L'ville, he's going to drag his recruiting out until NSD.
