A.J. has some talent and it was he (and LSU's defense shATTing their pants) that lead the touchdown drive against LSU late in the game. He doesn't deserve to be in the Heisman front runners at this time in my opinion. His team doesn't lean on him the way the Buckeyes do and the way that the Aggies do. I thought the Heisman was for one the most excellent players in the country. Until that final drive, did McCarron look like that? No, he did not.
I actually think his analysis is spot on. McCarron is America's golden boy now that Barkley's team is a letdown. Klein is the unorthodox riser, and Barner is electric. The article's reasons why certain guys wont win are sound.
Can a screen pass be a heisman moment for the QB? I think the coach who called that play at that time deserves an award because that was the first time all drive that LSU dialed it up and Alabama had the perfect play call on to beat it. If you watch it again one blitzer even pulled off because he read screen and he had the best shot, but not a good one.
^^^ That's what I was thinking. A game-winning screen pass where your runningback did all the work is a Heisman moment? Yeldon was extremely impressive on that play. McCarron was horrible in that game until the last drive.
Still, does it really matter that much? The Heisman race is ALL Klein unless he screws up at some point. Barner, Braxton and McCarron are all fighting for second place. Also, I don't really disagree all that much with this article. Keep in mind his standings are based on who he thinks can actually WIN it this year. Face it, Braxton is NOT going to win the Heisman this year no matter what he does. It's also refreshing to see someone be realistic about Te'o's Heisman chances (as in, he has absolutely no chances to begin with, regardless of what the media says).
Blows my mind that Barner is in the conversation. Just less than a month ago it was D. Thomas that was the talk of Oregon. Now its barner. Doesn't belong. And now they are talking up the QB. Nobody from that team should be on the ballot.
McCarron belongs in the conversation. Guy has played pretty well all season. Does he deserve to win it? I don't think so but he belongs in the talk.
It should really be Klein, Braxton and I still say Geno Smith. His numbers were so stellar early on that he still rates at the top with stats. Wins has been lacking but it has not all been his fault either. If he turns it around in these last couple of games, he could move right back up to the top.
It is absolutely sickening if voters even think about sharing the same ideas as Mark Mays. Braxton should not be discounted at all due to the postseason ban. To say that Braxton should be held accountable despite his stellar play is wrong and I think Mark Mays needs to be fired for insinuating such! Amongst other reasons too!
Barner absolutely should be in the race IMO. Just look at his stats. 1300 yards, 19 TDS and roughly 7 yards a carry. Not to mention all of that is while he is splitting carries with his QB and DeAnthony Thomas and also not playing in the fourth quarter of most games. Barner is up there with the most electric players in the country with his teammate and Braxton.
The Heisman does not always go to the guy who has the best stats. Stats only tell you so much about a guy and what he means to his team or the competition the team is playing.
The basis for winning it is completely subjective and changes from year to year. Guys in the past have won the award who in a different year would not even have been in the discussion.
Prior to this weekend, Joe Bauserman could have the Tide undefeated.
Who is this Joe Bauserman you speak of? If he was on OSU's team last year, I don't remember him. I've erased any and all memories of last year prior to the Urban Meyer hiring.
The biggest negative for Brax is that there are 4 other undefeated teams, so he's just kind of being lost in the crowd. If these other teams start losing, you'll see the candidates plucked out of the race one by one, the way Geno Smith was.
I've also felt from the beginning that there's kind of a push to avoid giving OSU credit this year being that they're the 7 year old sent to his room for time-out. In my opinion there's honestly nothing that separates Klein, Barner, McCarron, name your guy from Braxton Miller w/the exception that according to everyone but the OSU family itself, our season doesn't matter.
Well, he doesn't have a vote, but he comes up with those rankings by polling people who do have votes. ESPN does the same thing and they both have Brax behind Mccarron. I expect Brax, if he has two big final games, to finish around 5th, give or take a spot. Then be the one everyone expects to win coming into next year.

McCarron's chances of winning the Heisman are about equal to the chance that Mark May is a closet Buckeye fan.

I'm sick of hearing about a "Heisman moment". Its about being the best player in in college football, not leading the team on one amazing drive.
@Dan: You're absolutely correct. See Doug Flutie...wasn't even a good pass.

Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
McCarron might be the worst starter on his team.

AJ Mccarron being on the heisman ballot is an absolute travesty
1.Klien
2.Barner
3.Miller
Another negative could be our schedule.
