@Tim_Matty247: Sources are indicating that the #B1G has approved #GT as its 15th member. Stay tuned.
Interesting if true that we are moving so fast. Who is 16, then?

Enough expansion already. ND is who should be in the Big Ten (or whatever it'll end up being called). I'd make room for them, but I don't think a 16 or 18 team league is very appealing for the fans since a 12 game season means many teams won't play each other.
Go Bucks!
I think team allegiances will soon fade if teams want to survive the conference alignment. Most colleges at this point are fighting for survival, very man for himself. To say Teams won't leave a conference because of their rival schools is foolish. The acc, big12 are sinking ships. Every man woman and child for them self. I feel we should try for major schools before settling on weak schools.
Wherever you are, there you be!
I feel so good inside having started a thread that went to three pages. It's like I finally did something interesting in life.
I haven't read every single post on this thread but I haven't seen anyone mention that GT doesn't really fit the "Major Institution in the State" criteria we had been seeing.
I thought the driving forces were (in no particular order):
1) AAU
2) Contiguous States (GT is not)
3) Major Public Institution in the state (GT is not)
4) Major media market
If you haven't been to GT, it just doesn't feel like a Big 10 school. To me MD does (outside of football prowess) Rutgers doesn't really and GT is far from it.
In my opinion it definitely will be in a contiguous state. Virginia and North Carolina will be coming eventually.
The one school in the ACC that won't leave is Duke.
I just heard Gt and NC will join the big ten some time next week.

Basketball season will be more interesting. Unfortunately its watering down an already weak football conference. With many teams they will eventually have to put Michigan and OSU in the same division to ensure we still play each other every year. I really hope we continue to add strong non conference games to the schedule. With us possibly having to play 8 or 9 conference games we will only have room for 2 non. No more cupcakes out of the MAC.
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
College football is cyclical. There will be a time when some B1G teams actually get better and some big time SEC schools get worse.
Buckeye till I'm dead
DaiTheFlu the Balitmore and DC area is divided between Vt and Maryland and teprs might the edge in viewerships. If Vt is on in virgina nont many calivers fans watch the Hookies.
This like saying in Northeren Kentucky plenty people watch UC and Xavier in basketball. Kentucky controlls the state for viewrship.
You clearly know nothing about the DMV if you say the Terps get higher viewership ratings than the Hokies. Ohio State and Penn State are more popular here than the Terps.
Note: I still like the Maryland addition, I'm just correcting an obviously incorrect comment.

ESPN affiliate out of DC saying its UVA, not UNC.
UNC wants UVA if they were to go anywhere.
703Buckeye If I am wrong show me ratings for Baltimore and Dc areas and the rest of Virgina.
Why don't you show the ratings? You're the one who goes out making claim after claim with no evidence. I live in the DC metro area and can tell you first hand that VT, OSU, and PSU are all more popular than the Terps. UMD is more of a novelty in DC sports news.

-Former OSU S&C Coach Lichter
I live in the DC Metro area as well. That statement was so incorrect I don't even know where to begin. Penn State and Virginia Tech are very popular in the area with UVA and Ohio State both having stronger presences than Maryland. Prove that we're wrong.
/Duff'd It
You are flat out wrong osuforlife. I also live in the greater DC area. Maryland football is pretty irrelevant on its own campus, let alone on tv. It has become worse the past two years. Maryland alumni might watch basketball, maybe lacrosse, but not football especially. Not much love for the new coach. Hell, they have even sold football tickets on groupon.com super cheap. They will probably draw a bigger attendance once htye are in the Big 10 because their home games will be filled with Big 10 alums who live in the Mid-Atlantic area. VT is another animal entirely. Very strong VT following, football is absolutely king there. Tons of VT alumni here. VT has had a pretty good program (other than this year) for a number of years, and definitely has a large and loyal following throughout the state.
you realize baltimore and dc are not in top 25 for college footbal tv Markets
. No. 30 Washington dc
No. 2 Columbus (tied with 4.3 rating); No. 11 Dayton (2.8 rating) & No. 20 Cleveland (2.4 rating)
Cinciy is pretty high.
Who are you talking to? Me? I don't have an issue over the size of TV markets in this case.

Suposley the big 12 and sec have a gentlemans agreement since the two singned bowl matchup not to expand into a state where the other had a team, dont know how much truth there is to it.
How do you explain Texas A&M and Missouri then.
They signed that after the expansion.
Proof?

It'll be in a separate forum topic, I'm sure.
I won't be surprise if Clemson and FSU go the big 12
What be great is big 10 plays there basketball tournament at the garden in New York City
Assuming all of this is true, here's what I think they should do with divisions:
1. Maryland, Rutgers, Virginia, GT
2. OSU, TSUN, MSU, PSU
3. Indiana, Purdue, Illinois, Northwestern
4. Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota
9 conference games - 3 in division, 2 each from other divisions.
Class of 2010.
Interesting, but I don't think that they would put OSU, MI, and PSU, three of the B1G's tentpoles in one pod.

Way too unbalanced. Divisions 1 and 3 would just be awful while 2 and 4 (especially 2) would be unfairly tough.

This is a 100 percent retarded deal. The only positive of adding GT and UVA is adding two top 10 public schools. Georgia Tech an UVA have medeocre athletic prorgrams. There is little money actually flowing through GTs football program bc all of the money goes to academics, which is a major factor bc that would mean GT would have to spend more money on traveling to the Midwest a lot. And in terms of football, which is what we really care about, this add no dimension to the conference. UVA had a decent season last year before the fell back into the slums of the ACC this year and GT hasn't been good since 2009. Neither team will help our chance of playing in the college football playoff once they start. They aren't even opening up recruiting grounds bc UVA anf VT still get good players to stay in state and GT get 9th pickings in the state of Georgia behind UGA, Bama, Auburn, Florida, Clemson, USC, Tennesse, FSU, and even Miami in some seasons.
Retarded? Not a good word choice my friend.
Probably not the best word choice. But, this deal makes no sense at all. I don't see how this benefits the conference.
703buckeye you been a loser all your life. Cleveland hasn't won a hing around 50 years. Funny thing my aunt and uncle used to live Shaker Height they move because they hated there. Live in a lot better area now.
Wow, you want to start calling names? Grow up. You want me to back off? How 'bout you provide evidence to back up your claims instead of taking the childs way out.
I've never called you out for your spelling but I've never lived in "Shaker Height" before, I lived in Shaker Heights.

My father grew up in Mentor, a majority of my family lives in the Cleveland area, and I visit there quite a lot. So I have a few things to say to you.
1. Don't call a fellow buckeye a "loser all your life" if you want ANY person in this community to repect you and listen to a word you say
2. Despite Cleveland's failure recently in sports, I still resent anybody who says the whole area sucks. It appears you've never spent an extended period of time there. Don't diss it till you try it.
Learn some respect please, it comes in handy in life

Stony Brook????????? People are joking, right?

Yes, it was a joke. But Stony Brook is an AAU member.
In sadder news... RIP Coach Rick Majerus!!
Just saw that. Great coach.
I saw home when he was the Marquette coach play DAyton a few times.
Texas Am join the Sec in Sept 2011.
Sec and Big 12 signed sugar bowl deal some time this May 2012
Are you implying the Sugar Bowl agreement is the basis for the anti-poaching agreement?

Ah, so basically it's like if a guy robs your house and then you catch him and he says "hey let's be friends".
It's like Hitler and Stalin. They sign a peace treaty and Hitler invaded Russia anyway.

I hope they take a couple more patsies out of the ACC so Notre Dame doesn't get an automatic 5 wins every year 'in conference.'

That old news Washington espn reported that information yesterday. It was a good try but a day to late.
I would be careful what you call old news. Quite a few of your forum topics are several days old worth of news, when you posted them. It's never wise to throw stones from the house made of glass.
We're all Buckeye fans here.
If Clemson,FSU,Miami, and VT all leave the ACC. I could see Nd going to Big 12 the had a chance to join us they don't want part of our league.
Acc will become thugville basketball. Back in 90's when Huggin coach Uc there nickname was Las Vegas of east. Art long there star center punch a police horse. Your adding Pitt and Cuse god luck ACC .
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Edit: I see osuforlife already came in and downvoted me. Dude is ridiculous!

I do pretty good for English is not primary language like is for you. How many languages do speak. I sorry not as good as you are. When you speak 4 languages get back with me. The only time I write English is on this board. My job doesn't require me speak or write in English. I was hired for the 3 languages speak and write. I study a fifth right now Chinese.
Where did I say in my most recent response a single thing about English being your weakness? The last comment of yours I responded to referred to your comment being incoherent, which it still would have been if your English was better.
I responded to the content of your message, not to the fact English is your second language.

GT prez again denying the rumors, as recent as last night. I think we have to take him at his word at this point. Not saying GT's move to B1G is not possible at some point in the future, but it doesn't look like it is imminent.
Thanks for the link. Maybe GT is waiting to see what happens with Maryland's buyout before they make a move.
"Attack the Strong, Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead!"

Since GT wasn't a founding member of the ACC, I can see their buyout number being lower than Maryland's, probably at $10,000 but hey, what do I know?

Good, maybe Delany is done. They cant break into the Atlanta TV market then thats that. Just want the conference musical chairs to stop. Please.
"Sherman ran an option play right through the south" - Greatest.Civil.War.Analogy.Ever
The only two teams that should be added are UNC and Notre Dame and stop at 16. We expanded the market now lets expand the quality.
Buckeye till I'm dead
A UNC fan once said to me that "I don't want to be in any conference where people look at me funny for saying yall."
Yeah, I have looked at several UNC sites (not sure if that is an accurate opinion of fan sentiment or not) and while a few really want to go B1G, most want ACC then SEC then B1G.
Their logic is basically: we run the ACC with the rest of Tobacco Road, so that is choice 1. Failing that, we are in the south and I don't want to be in a midwest/northeast centric conference.
And you know what? I have no problem with their logic. It makes perfect sense. And while I am not sure fan's opinions matter in all of this, I want teams with fans who want to be here. While I still question Rutgers being invited, go look at some of their message boards. They got on the life raft and have sworn fealty to the B1G and could not be happier about the move.
