watched his game last night, i wasnt impressed to tell you the truth. he went agaisnt a very poor fchs defense, thought he should have tore it up last night.
think maybe keep an eye on him his senior year. yea he runs okay, but he is doing it many times against kids smaller than him, i dont see him running thru 290 pound lineman at the next level. has decent arm but i also saw him come up short on 15 yard tosses to the flat last night.
Were you and Waycraken at the same game? I mean his report on Barker was much different. From everything he said it sounded like Barker played a good game, didn't have to pass the ball much, and ran the ball effectively.
Not trying to sound like dick here, this is a legit question, who do you think is the best fit for OSU as a 2014 QB then?
at triv: barker played good, but not great,, and i dont care what anyone else here says, the defense of fchs completely sucks, imo. i have watched this defense for two years now, it sucks.
good thing they have an awesome offense, which they do. and did waycracken tell you timmons dropped at least two catchable balls, and woodside threw one over timmons head causing timmons to get a cramp leaping for it? waycracken isnt the only buckeye fan who goes to the timmons show, and i want this kid in scarlet and gray NOW
timmons had this one run last night, in a big crowd of players, i thought noway is he coming out of this mess, oh my gosh, next thing i know he is standing in the endzone 30 yards later, what an incrediclbe run.
Buckeyestu- I dont completely disagree with you about the Defense, However besides the fact the opponent scored 59 I also believe that Conner played that well on offense and if FC played like they did against Conner the typical team FC played this year would have been held to many less points than what was normal
Its a fact that most high scoring teams also give up a lot of points almost at every level.
Franklin County has now scored 709 points and given up 370. These type of teams can normally do pretty well to a certain level, but eventually we all know Defense wins championships and I am afraid Franklin Counties number is soon to be up because of those same 370 points they have given up that we all notice.
But with that said Barker did everything he could possibly do to pull out a win for his team, he was a leader. And I noticed it took 4 players to normally bring him down. The one play where he scrambled around and broke about 6 tackles shows why Urban Meyer is so high on him. If he gets a little stronger wow!
dont mean to offend anyone, barker is good, but good enough for tosu? not my call. just cause i wasnt impressed, means nothing, its only my opinion. plus he is a junior and will improve for sure, i think. timmons though is more than GOOD enough for tosu. urban, please get timmons.
Couldnt agree with you more on Timmons Buckeyestu. These players come along very seldom and the class of 2013 nationally is very talented. You mentioned the one thing I noticed as well. Normally Timmons gets his yardage rushing on a sweep, but Conner wasnt going to allow that so he turned it up in the gut of the defense and ran through several tackles and when he cleared he was instantely at full speed. Probably his most impressive game as far as running the ball straight into the heart of the defense and breaking out, he was getting hit hard and the coach from Conner was constantly screaming to hit him hard to his players. He was definately a target for extra hits and I am sure he is one sore player today.
I just want to know who you think is OSU material then, because purely based on film I like Barker over Henderson, Kizer, Allen, and I haven't seen much on Crest. Barker has a stronger arm than Braxton did out of HS and is more accurate than our current QB commit JT Barrett. Just would like to know which of the QBs we are looking at you would qualify as osu quality
Looking at those numbers, I really don't care about the competition. Barker had some good numbers against a poor defense, not his fault they sucked. Let me ask this because I don't know anything about these teams. Does Barker have weapons around him or is he a one man show like Timmons? I mean, everything read and heard about Timmons, he is the sole target of every team they play yet he still gets into the endzone like he has to get there to live!
Is it the same for Barker or is he on a pretty stacked team?
Edit: I will add this, the big fish in a small pond thing can hold true but then again there are those that are just so talented that it doesn't matter, just the situation they were put in. Basically, can Barker look good against better competition if he was playing against them? I guess that will be what the summer camps will show.
I'm not that impressed w/ Timmons, I'd rather he be a last resort type option. I feel we have plenty of better players on our board right now w/ limited scholarships. I'd rather pass on him and go for Quick/Gibson. Then finished the rest of the class out w/ hopefully Mitchell, Johnson, Dawson, Bell and... a couple flips like Trey Johnson from Auburn or someone else.
Regardless of the competition, Barker's film still has him hitting most of his receivers in stride. Yes they are often pretty open but whether they had 5 steps or 1 the ball still seemed to be put in a perfect spot on a majority of his passes.
Squirrel Master Conner has 2 other offensive threats on his team but I am sure every defense keys first on Barker, and if they do that too much the other two can take advantage. Pretty similar situation with Timmons team. Franklin County has 2 2013 D1 players and 2 2014 D1 caliber players on offense. So every team keys on Timmons but the other 3 are very good and can take advantage.
Kareem, I guess you have seen alot of film or have seen Timmons in person and that is all good, but you have to remember 10.61 and 4.32. I guess that doesnt impress you either. Also remember Timmons is up to 190 now and maintaining his speed. All of the other 6'3 170# receivers will have to gain weight and these players are going to take their 4.45 speed and get slower in most cases. I would be the first to whole heartedly agree Timmons is not the best WR (traditional type target) but I do think he is the very best hybrid type WR that Oregon normally uses. I think Quick would be a great traditional WR and Timmons the playmaker that could round this class out.
TRIV Last night Barker threw a pass standing on his own 15 yard line and hit a bomb to his WR that was caught on the 25 of FC and the ball could not have been thrown any better spot on ball traveled 60 yds in the air perfect spiral dropped right in the bucket receiver didnt have to break stride at all and went in for the 78 yd TD
Speed and all that is impressive I'll give you that but that's only part of being a football player. Each year you see guys who put up highlights flims like Timmons that don't amount to anything. For example the #1 receiver in that nation a few years back Whitney Lewis out of CA who was an UAA, first player ever in Cali to rush/recieve for a 1000 yards in a single season, won some award for being Cali's best top prep football player and went to USC, didn't amount to anything so he transferred to UNI (my school) where he balooned up to 240+ pounds and played a limmited/backup running back role at the FCS level... so you never know how guys will pan out, but just based on my observations I'd rather take him if we miss out on a lot of guys first.
The kid can throw..sign him up! Lets start joining the evolution of football and find QB's that can make NFL throws and pick defenses apart with his arm.
Kareem I agree but I believe the big difference in Timmons highlight films and the rest of the players you are talking about highlight films is that It normally takes 10 plays to get 1 or 2 highlight film material. In Timmons case he scores once for every two times he touches the ball on average this year he is 100% touches for kick off return touch downs. You cannot name to many people on highlights that have scored 43 Touchdowns on 95 touches and now approaching about 2500 yds total this season, and had nearly as good of numbers last season as well.
By the way in a comment by a newspaper Drew Barker was quoted as saying Ryan Timmons is the best player he has ever played against.
I suppose that's true, I mean it's never a bad thing taking a player of his caliber regardless of competition but I would look more traditonal WR but he would be a great slot player, except I think him and Marshall are pretty much the same player w/ Timmons being quicker/faster but Marshall being more of a beast w/ the same agility. So I guess it just depends, but I would think if he was a must get type of player Urban, who can scout talent pretty well would have offered already rather than telling him to "stay patient, an offer will most likely come soon". To me that just means, if we miss out on the guys we want, then welcome aboard!
If we do get him, and he turns out to be a good player for us, WayCraken, I'll buy you a few cases! ha. Here's to hoping he's not another Ray Small. -- Another example of someone who was suppose to be the next 'tedd ginn' for us, w/ an amazing highlight tape who turned out to be subpar at best and always in the doghouse.
I just like Timmons and if the kid wants to come to OSU a lot, I think he is good enough to come. I'll take a good player who could make an impact with a few touches and reallly wants to be at OSU. I think Timmons could be that player a lot like DeAnthony Thomas.
All I know is that this year we're having a problem with having too few spots for the WRs on our board. That's a nice problem to have.
As far as QBs go, I think if the staff plans on taking 2 QBs in next years class they offer Barker. If they only plan on taking one, they probably don't.
I disagree. To me, Barker is probably the best fit for our offense of any 2014 QB out there. Personally, I think he will get an offer to be the only QB if we only take one. And if we plan on taking two barker is far too good to be the backup option. No way we land him if we want him to be our second quarterback
Game film is the best thing to look at, how good were his throws? How good were his runs? If his throws were dead nuts on, I don't care abuot the competitions.
Barker was visited on Friday by Coach Smith from OSU. Besides Watson, who is still committed elsewhere, did any other 2014 QB prospects get visits from the OSU staff this week? If they did I didn't hear about it. I think that should tell us something.
From previous things I have read OSU offered Watson as an athlete and not a QB... I could be wrong and would like someone to shed some light on the situation if I am.
OFFER NOW PLEASE!!!!!!!!!
watched his game last night, i wasnt impressed to tell you the truth. he went agaisnt a very poor fchs defense, thought he should have tore it up last night.

We won't have a chance to land him if we don't offer before his senior year lol
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
offer him or else he will end up like mike Mccray
F--- Michigan!
maybe i have unreal expectations, but imo, he isnt a buckeye qb. i was not impressed by what i saw last night going against a very poor fchs defense.
Meh. The level of talent in that division is horrific. I say pass on Barker and Timmons. I'd rather have Quick and Crest...
The 2012 National Champions.
Were you and Waycraken at the same game? I mean his report on Barker was much different. From everything he said it sounded like Barker played a good game, didn't have to pass the ball much, and ran the ball effectively.

I watched his game and came away completely impressed. And quite frankly he did tear it up!
His stats on the game
16-20 for 291 yds and 3 TDs
25 carries for 95 yds for 1 TD.
Franklin County was hitting hard and gang tackling as well as they have all season.
If it wasnt for 3 bad snaps that resulted in -30 yards Barker would have had 125 yds rushing.
Best QB I have seen all year Franklin County QBWoodside is a close second The Nelson County QB Beasley isnt too shabby either
^^ This is what leads me to believe you two were at different games lol
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite

Seems as if timmons > barker when it comes to kentucky hs football
O'Deez330
stark county football

folks waycracken is correct, timmons is a must have urban needs to get this kid now.
@way: sorry but i put a premium on defense. i believe offense is cute stuff, but defense wins championships. imo.
dont mean to offend anyone, barker is good, but good enough for tosu? not my call. just cause i wasnt impressed, means nothing, its only my opinion. plus he is a junior and will improve for sure, i think. timmons though is more than GOOD enough for tosu. urban, please get timmons.

Can't compare Timmons to Stevens/North, but I'd take Timmons over both Gibson and Elder

I want a QB who can throw the ball first, and make plays with his legs when needed.
