With Alabama losing this opens the door a little bit wider for the possibility that if tOSU finishes undefeated that we could at least get some consideration from the AP as national champs. What does everyone think?

No.
The only way that could happen if there is no undefeated teams at the end of the regular season. But no way it happens if there is two undefeated teams in the NC game
No chance unless every other team finishes with at least one loss. Even then maybe not. That ship sailed against Cal and just kept sailing.
Only way we are AP champs would be if all 3 remaining undefeateds lose which would means Bama would go to the title game. Not what we want

You guys act as if we're not OHIO STATE. As arrogant as this may sound, that name alone carries so much weight. If you don't think an undefeated-Urban Meyer-coached Ohio State football team isn't going to get consideration for a national championship (especially if we are the only undefeated team at the end of the year), you must be a little crazy. We're not Boise State, sheesh.

Nope...
To many "ifs". Tomorrow bama will be #5 in the AP Poll while we are #6.
Now if Bama loses again, we might be in luck.

@jakebuckeye- the problem isn't us. The problem is that the rest the B1G is a shit show. Until they get better we are not gonna win a title on votes because our competition is too weak. We have to overcome the disadvantage by winning it on the field and we can't do that this year.
@ Jakebuckeye - Being OHIO STATE doesn't mean as much to the voters this year as it usually does. All you have to do is look at the fact that 1-loss Georgia, who got curbstomped by South Carolina, is STILL tied with us in the polls.
It's a combination of us looking terrible against our out of conference schedule and the Big Ten being down that will keep OSU from winning an AP title. The only scenario that I can see it happening is if the 3 remaining undefeated teams lose, and then someone other than Alabama wins the title game. Looking at the remaining schedules of those teams, that looks pretty unlikely.
You think we are going to drop from #5 to #6 after a bye week and an Alabama loss?
October 20th: National Kenneth Guiton Day
I still think no matter what happens that the winner of the campionship game will get all the #1 votes.
Why are people still even discussing this? Going into this season the only way it was going to happen was if we completely demolished everyone on our schedule + being the only unbeaten team at the end of the year. Neither of those things are going to happen
Yea our name carries so much weight, we aren't even ranked above a 1 loss Georgia team that got waxed by South Carolina. It is nice to think that our reputation would get us some consideration but we looked bad against Indiana (who just lost by 50 to Wisky) and Purdue and Cal and UAB. Even if all 3 undefeateds went down, the winner of Georgia/Bama for the SEC title game would go to the BCS championship and (lets be honest) probably win it. They would get the AP title over Ohio State without a doubt because they are from the SEC and we are forgettable because we haven't beaten anybody and barely beat some really bad teams.

@JakeBuckeye I agree with you, I just dont think they will let it happen but it would be interesting to see how that scenario would play out

If it is an open ended question, please provide an explanation to the answer. I feel like the one word responses are unnecessary. I don't know, maybe its just me, but saying yes/no without an explanation is kind of like saying the OP is stupid for even asking. This is a forum of discussion and it shows respect by answering the question of 'what you do yous think'...
edit: with that being said, I doubt OSU gets the AP vote for NC. I just do not see them jumping up if other teams stay undefeated, such as Oregon and KSU..... Just don't see it happening, and I am ok with that, because next year is our year.
If we were named "national champions" at the end of the year after watching their performances against a terribly weak schedule with no conference championship or bowl game to play in I'd almost LOL and feel kind of like its not warranted.

@ Jake
We were tied for 5th last week with UGA. Since we are idle and assuming UGA goes on to win, I doubt we will be ranked ahead of Bama. My top 5 would be...
1. Kansas State
2. Oregon
3. Notre Dame
4. Georgia
5. Alabama
------------------------------------------------------
6. Ohio State

@BuckeyeJason, that sums up my opinion on this pretty well. I'd be pretty embarrassed to be named National Champions this year.
OSU needs to be the onyl 0 loss team.
Auburn went undefeated in 2004 with a better schdule than ours rhis season and they didn't get the love. We have no chance unless all the others lose a game.
D. Anthony
Well it is possible, still pretty unlikely though. Although I have to say that our chances are looking better and better.
@BME_Buckeye why would you put Bama ahead of the Buckeyes ? Bama couldn't go 10-0, IF their schedule is any better it isn't by much. Bama gave up over 800yrds in the last 2 games and just lost. If you can give Bama a pass like that just because their Bama then you could just as easily call an undefeated Buckeyes CHAMPS just because their Ohio St
O H I O is the Buckeye State
@vhx- however, we have 2 games to really impress the voters. Once that happens, we get that Ohio State/Urban Meyer cred. if we don't impress then forgetaboutit. we're done. BUT the question is CAN we end up #1. YES and here's how:
1. We have to win impressively at both Whisky and shitagain.
2.Oregon loss -they play 3 ranked teams Oregon State, Stanford, and USC in the championship
3.Notre Dame loss- they've really lost a couple times already......, but they have to travel to USC. Notre Dame's D vs. Barkley and Co., going to be a game.
4.K-State loss -easiest path to the championship game and if they met a one loss Alabama team.....
all equals AP- 1. Ohio State
remember Alabama lost to a 15 point underdog. Don't forget how we got into the NC game in 07' season. anything can and will happen.
Warning: Ohio buckeye is highly toxic when taken internally.
Even if all that happens if a one loss Bama team wins the title they would be ranked ahead of OSU
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Not if we beat down whisky and shittygan and bama continues to stumble. they should have lost to LSU

I'm sorry but no AP voter will vote OSU over a one loss Bama if they win the title.
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
A lot would have to happen. I would think Braxton has a better chance of winning the heisman than us winning and AP national championship

I'm confused.....

Yeah, one loss Bama would also have to lose the title game to another one loss team for us to get the AP title, and even then its a long shot. Also, I don't see Bama losing if they get to the national title
edit: not saying we don't deserve it if everyone else loses, simply saying the AP would vote a one loss Bama team that wins the title ahead of Ohio State
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Long shot? When was the last time a favorite won the NC game?
I think we are a team with a lot of upside. I think Alabama has peaked. A lot has to do with performance. We are a much different team than we were when Cal was in town or when we went to Indy. Voters know this and if we can whip some ass in November anything is possible. Remember, the voters dont vote today.
Warning: Ohio buckeye is highly toxic when taken internally.
I also expect Bama to look much better should they make the title. Just look at last year. Like you said, voters don't vote today. I just can't see the AP picking against a one loss Bama team should they win the title
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
I get your point triv. And in the end I agree. I just think its more fun to think of ways it could happen.

We're going to need Oregon, K-State, and Notre Dame to go down. Then the SEC champ will get in the title game, and if they win, the SEC dick riders will vote that team ahead of us anyway. So I'd say 99% chance we don't.
Class of 2010.
Even if every other team had one loss, there is ZERO chance the AP would put OSU #1
Honestly, if Bama played a team like K-State who is good on both offense and D, they may get beat pretty badly. I think Georgia will beat them in the SEC title game and I think if they made it to the title game K-State would beat them as well. So, I don't think they'll be getting votes for the national title game.
I also believe Bama will only drop a few spots. My guess is they stay in the top 4, and Georgia is 5 on their own, and we'll be 6. Maybe Georgia goes to 4 and Bama falls to 5 bumping us down to 6, but I absolutely think coming off a bye week we'll fall a spot.
I said it in another post, but here's to hoping Oregon loses the Civil War, or even tonight vs Cal even though half of cals teams out w/ injuries it seems. KSU losing to either Baylor or Texas and ND losing to USC. Leaving us the lone unbeaten. IF not AP national title comes, I'm gonna go ahead and count it as a NC anyways. Give it the KareemabduljaCobb national title.
This is how the AP Rankings should look this week :
1 - Oregon
2 - Kansas State
3 - Notre Dame
4 - Ohio State
5 - Alabama
6 - Georgia
This is how it will look
1 - Oregon
2 - Kansas State
3 - Notre Dame
4 - Alabama
5 - Georgia
6 - Ohio State
The only way we have a shot at being AP Champs is if the poll looks the way it should, Kansas State loses to Texas or the National Championship, Oregon loses to Stanford or Oregon State, Notre Dame loses to USC and we beat Wisconsin and Michigan easily. But I think this dream stops at my first sentence.
It's not going to happen. Even if we were the last undefeated team the AP would have to vote us to #1, which they won't do when all is said and done especially since we didn't even get to be put to test in a bowl game. They'll find a 1 loss team more deserving. I can't say I blame them either. We would've had to steamroll through our whole schedule (being as weak as it is) to impress people enough to vote us #1. We didn't do that this year.

Discussion Over
So we were on a bye week and dropped 1 spot despite a team in front of us losing. UF laid a shitburger against ULL and stayed ranked at 7. Even though we are eligible for consideration in the AP it 2 things are obvious. 1) We are paying penance for not being bowl eligible in the eyes of some voters. 2) The SEC bias and voter meltdown over the Bama loss has forced all voters from the South to do everything they can in order to somehow, someway get an SEC team into the NC game.
*Currently
32(Thanks Bro +1) - 1 loss SEC teams ahead of The Ohio State University's undefeated football team. The SEC bias is a damn joke. Alabama drops 3 spots? Really? And I agree, Florida staying at 7 is an insult to the game. They prop up the SEC so hard, that when any member of the SEC loses to another member, they just act like it was two great teams competing and don't drop the loser at all.
"*Currently 3 - 1 loss SEC teams ahead of The Ohio State University's undefeated football team."
I only count 2. Georgia and Alabama. SEC CCG winner is still probably going to the national championship. I can't see all 3 top teams winning out.
Also, notice how FSU dropped two spots while Florida stayed put. LSU has two losses, but they're still ahead of FSU, who lost by one point on the road. A & M was a decent Big 12 team last year, and this year they come in and beat the flagship SEC program. The SEC is just not that good.
Absolutely ridiculous rankings. I'm forced to root for Georgia tech over Georgia, Clemson over south Carolina, and Florida state over Florida just to try to bring some sanity to the ratings.
Fixed.
