How many more open scholarships do we have? With 17 commits, and you predicting Dorian to come aboard that would put us at 18. How many more do we take and who do you predict comes in to the class?
I predicted sometime ago I felt D.Johnson would be in this class. Sh*t 25 commits?!?! If we finish w/that many I say we finish w/a top 3 class, maybe top 2!!! Go Bucks!
Not to read the tealeaves of twitter, but it sounds like David Dawson is making a lot of friends w/OSU recruits (Tyquan Lewis, Billy Price), and retweeting a lot of people's desires for him to commit to OSU, so it makes me feel good about where he might be at. Combine that with Dorian Johnson possibly leaning our way, and if both committed, it would take our OL class up a notch to borderline ridiculous.
SO if we end up taking 25 this class, what will we have for next year? I understand there's attrition that we don't yet know of and guys who take off for the NFL, but roughly as of right now what would we be looking at?
If we have a chance to get 25 I'd like to see it break down something like this:
Only take OL if its Johnson, Dawson or both (possible 0-2 players)
1-2 more Linebackers (Mitchell and possibly one more. If no Mitchell I see us only taking one unless someone flips to us)
2-3 WR (Could be any of Gibson, Quick, Stevens, North, Timmons, Larue)
2 of Conley, Worley, Bell (no way we take all 3 IMO)
So my perfect (and somewhat realistic) final 8 would go something like this:
OL Johnson
OL Dawson
LB Mitchell
LB Johnson/McMillan (If it's not one of these two, I say take Worley or Conley instead of a LB)
WR Quick
WR Gibson
WR North
DB Bell
we currecntly have 12 Juniors. Assuming Hank leaves 11, Hall redshirt back to 12, and asuuming Roby goes after next year 13. Assume a standard 5-8 departures due to attrition and I think we see anywhere from 18-21 players in next years class. Could be more if more players leave but that's my best guess for now.
Because he hasn't completed his degree, and he's given enough to the program that if he wants to stay, he has every right, imo. But I agree with others, I'd rather this year's class be around 22 and bank the rest towards an absolutely loaded 2014 class.
Most likely Meyer knows something we dont know about this 2013 class and the 2014 class. Because like ppl are saying IF we are only projected to have 13 schollies next year b4 attrition like Triv said, & we plan on taking 25 then Meyer has to know something that is going on that we dont.
Meyer knows the 2014 class could turn out to be one of the top classes ever at OSU so why not bank some schollies from the 2013 class? Do we really need a 25 man class this year? I honestly dont think so. Meyer knows he's got one hell of a shot at landing in state studs like Snodgrass, Booker, Lattimore, Byrne & guys like Trout, Watkins & Richardson if they are offered. He's got alot of OOS prospects that he knows he has one hell of a shot at landing like McMillan, Watson, Ulmer, Chubb, Barker, Crest, Haden, Hurd, Scott, Kitt, Davidson, Thompson, Blazevich, Prince, McDermott, Brown Jr, Knox, J. Jones, Hand, McDowell, Morgan, Garrett, Nicholson, Tabor, Payne, Blanding, L. Jones, Peppers, Webb, Q. Wilson, Glass, Autry, Lloyd, & more. So how we could he even see this class being 15-18? I would make sure that this class is the one I would stretch to 25, if im HC @ OSU.
Thats why I think Meyer knows something that we dont. I think Meyer knows deep down that he will take 25 for 2013, & find a way (like he always does) to make the 2014 class 25.
Meyer will take 25 for '13 & during fall workouts & beginning of next season he will determine which players may never end of playing @ OSU. Similar to what he said a few weeks ago about there being some "dead weight on the team". He will find that dead weight & be honest w/ the kids telling them "you wont have a chance to play here". hopefully pushing those kids out & some of Tress's kids like B.Thomas, Frank Epo, Roberts, Powell, Eflein, Murray or some of those '12 kids that Meyer never recruited & see what he is left w/ for that 2014 class.
Meyer knows what he is doing, it's just all behind the scenes for us to see. I Hope. lol
Let's not forget that this coming class was projected to only have 14 schollies available as well and now we can have a class in upwards of 25 if it all pans out. There are enough people that leave for whatever reason that it'll work out. I think we'll be good to go. No need to worry about our 2014 numbers when we haven't even had a 2013 practice.
If I recall, we thought this class (13) would be pretty small (15-18) last spring and wanted UFM to bank scholarships for '13 but UFM has found a way to stretch it to 25. I understand there was additional attrition due to a new staff but I'm pretty confident that Urb will similarly stretch the 14 class beyond what we expect and probably ends up at around 22-25.
@JohnBlair Yeah, well that was back when we thought we were going to get only 4 and 5 stars in 2013. This year is different because Urban will get the consensus top 25 recruits, regardless of position and location, while also getting every recruit in Ohio ever while also at the same time swooping down on a scarlet and gray rainbow and flipping everyone else's recruits just for fun.
But really, I think people are more optimistic for 2014 because of Urban's opportunity to build relationships with these kids over the last two years. I also think it's important to emphasize this class perhaps a little bit more than the 2013 one, because these guys are going to be the foundation of the post-Braxton era.
I'd rather have a player on the OSU roster (2013 class) to help win a NC, then have a chance with a great player (2014) sitting in his high school study hall.
As for the post Braxton era.....hate to say it, and knock on wood, while doing it...... the Purdue game this year, shows that the Post Braxton Era could come at any time.
Different strokes for different folks, we can all agree to say.... Let's Go Bucks!
I'm not sure who downvoted you Bucknut8, but as of right now, all those guys you're hoping to get rid of are Buckeyes... no matter who recruited them. And last I checked, Najee Murray blew his ACL playing his hardest on our punt coverage team.
From day one of this recruiting class, we've been talking offensive linemen. If Johnson picks the good guys, I think he becomes our most important recruit, no offense to the many other talented young men he'll be joining.
We don't know what Hall can be in this system yet. He hasn't gotten much of a chance to get his feet wet in it. The only time he's spent in this offense was in the spring and Urban singled him out as one of if not the top playmaker (outside of Braxton). He didn't practice all summer/fall and was clearly rusty on his cuts and mobility when we did get him back for those couple of games. Even with all that he was still very productive in the games he played in. I'd love to see what Jordan Hall can do in this offense. (btw - it definitely wasn't me that downvoted you)
On a semi-related note, it seems, just empirically, that if you get downvoted and then complain about it or ask why it happened, you'll probably be downvoted more. It's best to just take the wins with the losses.
@bucknuts. I didn't downvote you, but I think when you insinuated that Meyer would push recruits out the door, some took offense to that. I did myself. It wasn't that you said it, but rather a downvote to Urban doing such a thing. "Please Urban, don't do that that type of underhanded thing. Leave that to Saban and friends"
I don't downvote but I agree with those who did, never suggest to push out players. Of all the lowdown dirty recruiting methods, I think that is the worst. These kids all aren't in it to go to the NFL, some are trying to get an education. It is just not cool. Especially some 2012 kids. They haven't even gotten a shot yet.
I love the recruits that are coming in but by no means do I think they all just step right in a play. Even Spence and Dunn have to work their asses off to get some PT and they are awesome! It is hard to step right in for even the most elite talents. JaDeveon Clowney even had his growning pains.
I agree with Squirrel Master, Bucknut8. We know players are going to leave, but to suggest that we need to just push kids out, especially those who have been injured, is never going to win over people. Attrition is natural and just let it happen. No need to throw out names. And just so you know, I didn't downvote either...but I can definitely see why they did.
well I shouldnt of said "Meyer is going to push Tress's kids out the door". but everyone knows Meyer wants HIS players in his system. Yes he wont "push kids out", but he will tell them, like I mentioned above, "you will not see much, if any playing time here" hopefully causing some attrition making spots for the next class. Peoplz(e act like this dosnt go on. But it does. Meyer just said that in one of his conferences the other day about their being "dead weight" on the team. Obviously he is saying that because Meyer is doing it to be honest to these kids. If Meyer knows these kids wont get any playing time (due to whatever the case), why let them sit around & wait? Why not be honest & tell them, so they can enjoy their playing career's elsewhere? That's what Meyer is doing! & that is why Meyer said some "dead weight" on the team. What do people think he meant? He meant that there are players on the team that will not get much playing time at all.
I love that Meyer has kept the Tress kids. Im all for it. Never once said I was against it. I have mentioned millions of times that I think several of the 3* star kids that Tress/Fickell brought in will have better careers than some of the guys Meyer brought in last year.
There was a rumor I read somewhere that Frosh TE Blake Thomas will be one of the kids told about the dead weight. Im assuming Tommy Brown is another. Possibly some other kids, most likely being all Tress/Fickell kids. Meyer isnt pushing these kids out, but by telling them they wont see PT, it gives them a heads up to move on & stop wasting your time here @ OSU.
Meyer wants his owns kids under his system. Whether it be bringing in 25 kids every year then telling so many kids every year that they wont see PT, hopefully leading to them leaving the team, so he bring in another full class the following year. People need to stop taking things so harsh. Just saying Meyer is doing this stuff as he said in his press conference & there isnt anything wrong w/it. just ppl thinking im saying Meyer will push kids out by telling them to get out. Not what I said.
& btw, I understand now why ppl downvoted me, due to bad choice of words. but what people dont realize is that I wasnt just throwing names out for my predictions and what not, I was just giving some of the examples of the Tress kids THAT HAVE BEEN thrown around & predicted to leave due to being told there is no PT for them. I want all the kids to stay unless they WANT to leave. I think Murray is one hell of a player. Saw him play about 4 times in 4 years as Steubenville has played my alma mater, Dover every season in the Playoffs the 4 years I was there & watched him play Massillon once or twice. I can go on and on about why I want these kids to be here, but those are the names being thrown around & I just said Tress kids & pointed to the ones from this past season as they are most likely due to the rumors I have heard.
I have no hard feelings for anybody that did downvote me as its part of life on 11W, but ppl need to stand up and explain why they did or give there opinion so maybe ppl can understand them. instead of hiding behind the screen not coming forth.
It is the fact that you said you hope the kids get pushed out. please never wish that players will be pushed out, even ones not recruited by Meyer. You listed Roberts, who provides some much needed depth at LB, Powell, I mean just look at our safeties right now, Elfein, we graduate 4 OL next year, and Murray, who is already playing on special teams. Blake Thomas is in a very similar mold to Heuerman and Vannett so he can play the H since we don't recruit fullbacks. Frank is actually a very solid reciever and could definietly contribute down the road. So again, I ask that you please never hope that a player is pushed out
I'm okay with you saying "find the dead weight and (let them know what the deal is)". What I'm not okay with is you listing current players as guys that should be pushed out. Let the chips fall where they may.
EDIT: No one is hiding. No one has to come out and write a report of why they downvoted. Votes are inherently anonymous. That being said, I downvoted you, for the reasons that I have stated in above posts and here.
I said hopefully as in that is what Meyer is trying to do. Obviously if he's not going to tell a kid, "Hey, you wont be receiving any PT around here, so just stay & sit!". He's going to be saying "hey, you wont be receiving any PT around here, you can try & prove me wrong, or carry your career somewhere else. Either way Ill support you 100%." The last comment, in Meyer's heart he is hoping by him telling the kid, it will lead to the kid leaving. giving Meyer another spot to work with.
I firmly believe Meyer doesn't want these kids, with whom he's built a personal and familiar relationship, to leave. He gives them that ultimatum, because he wants them to improve and pick up with the system. If they don't, and they choose to leave it's for the best.
@TennBuck - ya thats what Im going to do. ppl brought all this up under a Dorian Johnson Updates Recruitment thread anyway started talking about the 2014 class. All I did was give an opinion. I dont want kids being pushed out the door, but ppl know it happens everywhere. Do I like it? No, I think its pathetic, but its just part of the game. Just like me getting my downvotes.
Just dont get why I see ppl all the time bringing up ppl's name for leaving (rumors) & then ppl joking around about Hall not being wanted here for a 5th yr & stuff like that. I think that is just as bad.
but at the end of the day, were all rooting for OSU, wishing the best for the Buckeyes & all players, & hopefully all being a Buckeye Nation family & are enjoying a win every Saturday. We all love Buckeye Football & can share our opinions on here.
I don't think Urban wants to get rid of players that won't see any playing time. By dead weight he means those who don't buy into the 'Competive Excellence' program of going at it full bore, on the field, off the field and in the classroom.
And also said (from what I read) that he expects to committ Mid-December so looks like we'll most likely have the last visit from him as well.
Urban the closer gets the last two visits and probably an in home visit, wouldn't wanna bet against him.
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
Me thinks he commits after his OSU official
Nice.
Alex,
How many more open scholarships do we have? With 17 commits, and you predicting Dorian to come aboard that would put us at 18. How many more do we take and who do you predict comes in to the class?
That would be a huge piece of the recruiting class. It would definitely be nice to pick off this great O-linemen for this class.
awesome to hear i got worried his official would effect his visit for the game
@J05 I have read approx 24.
Dec 7...A day that will live in infamy for Mark May and the Pitt Panthers when Dorian Johnson becomes a Buckeye!
Now thats what I'm wating for..
I think we take 25 total...check article tomorrow for predictions
This is great news!!! Hope he does come on board to the good guys
Wants to announce sometime Mid-December
I predicted sometime ago I felt D.Johnson would be in this class. Sh*t 25 commits?!?! If we finish w/that many I say we finish w/a top 3 class, maybe top 2!!! Go Bucks!

Sounds awesome that we get him for his final visit of the year
SO if we end up taking 25 this class, what will we have for next year? I understand there's attrition that we don't yet know of and guys who take off for the NFL, but roughly as of right now what would we be looking at?

That's really not that big of a deal then. I was thinking somewhere I saw like 14, which would not be ideal.
i dont see why hall would redshirt to come back we dont need him we have better ppl in our system already
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again

@Unky sorry didn't see your post and said basically the same thing... Great minds think alike I guess haha
everything being said about the greatness of the 2014 class, was being said about this 2013 class, about a year ago.
Haha, no problem BuckupNorth. It's bound to happen.

Can we just redshirt Jordan Hall's arms and attach them to the rest of Rod Smith so he can hold on to the ball???
hahaha good idea 45
what the hellz the down vote for? I shared my opinion just like anyone else on here.

I don't think Urban wants to get rid of players that won't see any playing time. By dead weight he means those who don't buy into the 'Competive Excellence' program of going at it full bore, on the field, off the field and in the classroom.
