Woodbridge (VA) assistant coach, John Harris tells me Ohio State receivers Coach, Zach Smith is stopping by Woodbridge today to check out Hand's wrestling practice and to ask how Da'Shawn's visit went.
Hand is the number one player in the 2014 class and one of the Buckeyes' biggest targets.

Hand wrestles? Wrestling is one of the best sports to compliment football, especially for a d-lineman.
"Attack the Strong, Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead!"
-Former OSU S&C Coach Lichter
I agree. Ask Luke Fickell about how wrestling prepares you for playing d-line. He was a state champ.
BTW: I am more familiar with arm wrestling, not hand wrestling.
Worked out pretty well for Mike Martin, too. I think he won state 3 or 4 times.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!

Who is this Mike Martin you speak of? :)
From what I remember, Mike Martin mysteriously appeared out of thin air in AA in Sept. 2011, anchoring a decent Greg Mattison defense.
Supposedly, there had been Mike Martin sightings in 2009 and 2010, but I never saw any, maybe because I was easily distracted by all the other fireworks:
No one cares...
"There's nothing that cleanses your soul like getting the hell kicked out of you."
"I love football. I think it is most wonderful game in world and I despise to lose."
Woody Hayes 1913 - 1987
Tim Anderson (#54) starting DT on the 2002 NC team was also a wrestler, winning State Titles his Jr and Sr years in HS! Awesome run stopper for us in '02!
Garrett Goebel also was a big time wrestling product in highschool
Luke was a THREE time UNBEATEN state champion wrestler and one of the best if not the best Ohio has ever produced. Many think he could have been an Olympic champion had he choose wrestling over football.
i think his last State tournament was less than 5 minutes... I'm serious. Oh, he won that one too. In his hayday he was the next wunderkid of wrestling, sparking the likes of a certain Tommy Rowlands (OSU nat'l champ hwt)

Hand is getting pretty much the same weather today that he got in the Shoe on Saturday. He brought it back with him. Ugh.
Anyone know how he compares to Clowney and/or Noah Spence as high school players?
Mike Farrell at Rivals said he is better at this point in his career than Clowney was. More refined.
Clowney is just a complete and total physical freak with upside galore. He still plays with very little refinement and is absolutely dominant.
Hand isn't being touted as just the best prospect in the class of 2014, he is being called the best HS prospect out there regardless of class year.
Goebel was a HS AA wrestler wasn't he? It gives players good balance and leverage that can translate to the football field. I like it. Although, I'm not a fan of wrestling itself. Seems a bit sanduskyish to me. But more power to him.
Illinois state wrestling champion in HS according to his OSU bio.
Goebel was the #1 high school heavyweight in the country as a senior, and was the first kidever to win Ironman (the toughest tournament in the country-held at Walsh Jesuit in Akron) twice at heavyweight. Could have gone wherever he wanted, but made it pretty clear early on that he would play football and not wrestle in college. One of the best high school heavyweights I've ever seen though.
The year before, Dex Larimore was the #1 heavyweight in the country, the Buckeyes have had a lot of luck getting wrestlers to come here and play football.
..as was Todd Denlinger
If you want to be a pro, wrestling will prepare you for it. I honestly cannot imagine signing both him AND McMillan(GA)... That would be sick.. You think the Big ten hates the bucks now... I really want TSUN and Wisky to feel the pain we felt in 06..
wasnt dexter lairimore a wrassler too?
