I got name-called up and down espn's board for questioning how severe this self-imposed penalty really is, since they waited until they were 6-5 to announce this...
They were a shoe-in for the division crown and a berth in the ACC champ game, which would give them a chance to play in a BCS bowl. I would say it is a little more severe than it appears on the surface.
Probably figured their fans wouldn't travel for a bowl since they only put about 5k in the stands for home games. I hope they still get a 4 year bowl ban after sitting out the last 2
I think it is lost on a lot of folks that if we had imposed a bowl ban last year, they still would have given us a bowl ban this season. As is evidence by Miami's need to place another ban on this season, and probably more going forward too.
Illinois has also announced a self imposed Bowl Ban for 2012, to avoid future NCAA possible penalties.
Last year Miami waited till they had 4 losses to announce a bowl ban, this year it's after 5 losses. Hopefully they get hammered by the NCAA, and the NCAA see through this B.S. front. If Miami was 10-1 no way they would self impose.

Tom Crean listens to Nickelback...
That's strange. They are usually very sensible on the espn boards.

Yeah, that's how much the ACC sucks. If you thought the B1G was bad...oh wait, it is, but still.
Class of 2010.
Lol @ stu... Yeah, they usually ARE very mature and open-minded
