I heard a few years ago when he was offered some job the reason he stays in Boise is his son had some sort of condition that required constant treatment and he was very fond of the doctors around the area he was living not sure if this is the case anymore
Are Cal or Arkansas really promotions though? Tennesssee would be a nice step up, it's a program with a lot of success and it really wasn't that long ago they were really good. There's a real heavyweight that may come open soon as well in the form of Texas. I would think he'd be a legit contender for any of those elite schools that come open.
The guy has been "rumored" to take every high profile job opening for the past 3 or 4 years. Not sure why he would choose a school like Cal or Arkansas. Here are the details on Petersen's contract with Boise St. He is obligated to inform the school 24 hours in advance of an interview and he is obligated to finish an ongoing season (bowl game included) before leaving. A little surprised his buyout isn't larger... Wasn't Rich Rod's multiple millions?
All these teams with open coaching jobs need to look at former OSU assistant and Kent St coach Darell Hazell! He's on the verge of cracking a BCS game w/ the Golden Flashes and probably should be undefeated had they not lost by 30 to a 2-10 kentucky team, ha.
Petersen is "rumored" every year because he is a highly-successful and highly-thought of coach stuck at a program who still has not been able to find themselves a place at the head table. But, as was mentioned, he has a child with a special condition (autistic, I think) and supposedly there is a special doctor or hospital in Boise that the family is very fond of.
I think he'd be a great hire anywhere; it comes down to whether or not he's willing to uproot his family. I'm not sure he enjoys the high-profile of a program like Texas, or even Tennessee. A place like Cal could be exactly what he's looking for, or maybe he's just not looking at anything else at all.
I completely agree he wants to be there. The play on words is my interpretation of his chances of ever doing anything nationally relevant while at Boise. He won a few BCS games, which is great and all, but he's never getting that program into a four-team national semifinal. Unless he makes a move, he's "stuck" playing second fiddle for the rest of his career. This is a shame, should it be so, based on his coaching ability.
Cal makes more sense because he should be more familiar recruiting that part of the country.
He will be a good fit anywhere, I believe..........Im surprised he hasnt left yet....

RR's was $4 million, if I remember right.

I wouldn't say Petersen is "stuck" at Boise St. He wants to be there. That's why he hasn't left for any of the open "big" jobs in the past.

I see what you're saying. I'm with you, the guy is a heckuva coach.
Can you not put all of these rumored coaching changes in one forum?
