Can someone explain...

Watching all these ESPN (anal)ysis, they dont give enough credit to Braxton... he is 300 yards shy of 3000 total yards offense with 2 games left, which is better than Klein...he is a 1000 yard rusher and ranked 7th in the nation rushing(better than Klein 61st) and has more TD passes than Klein 14 to 12...Klein is ranked 58th in passing compared to Braxtons 72nd rank. He has 2 less touchdowns total, which most of Kleins td's are from 5 yards and in. What are your predictions of how many TD's Miller would have if there wasnt a dominate Hyde in the backfield?? Heisman talk is getting away from Miller due to NCAA sanctions and lack of national exposure! Though i cant argue with Oregon's Barner right now, but this Klein talk is driving me crazy...

some call this bias opinion, but looking at numbers i dont think Klein and Teo should be ahead of Miller... Barner should be the leader with Miller #2...

It has everything to do with the big 10 playing at a MAC level this year.

Nice point but realistically you shouldnt base your argument towaed Klein because he like Braxton are probably the two most valuable players. Oregon would just find another speedster to go to if Barner went down. But if Klein or Miller wasnt there both teams would have at least two losses. So requirements for Heisman is a player who means the most to the success of a highly successful team.

@Waycracken actually the verbage is the most outstanding player in college football although I do agree with you that a lot of voters vote like it's an MVP award

Theres still a couple games left and alot could happen. If he doesn't get it this year then next year should be Miller time..

I guess I am basing this on "who means more to a team" mentality... if it were numbers alone it would be fresno states QB who has 30 + TDs  lol! I see alot of Troy Smith type season Braxton is having...Not so much passing, Troy was amazing his Heisman season passing and ran when needed... But i agree with you XTREME, this season will be a good learning experience from the national exposure and pressure each week with being undefeated...Urban will lead him there soon enough!

The top 4 in the heisman are Klein, Teo, Braxton, and McCarron...what do they have in common?

I think you have to put Barner up there in the top 3. His stats are unreal and he is on an undefeated team

Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite

I think Braxtons problem with the national media this year is two fold.  First off he is playing in the BIG which is not very highly regarded this season.  You have to admit that Klien's performances have come against much better opponants including Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Miami, West Virginia etc.  I think the other main issue is that like it or not The Buckeyes not being eligable for the post season does hurt his perception by those who are voting.  I think this is pretty unfair, but it is no different than the fact that voters also seem to only reward players on winning teams.  If you combine those factors with the fact that Braxton isn't considered to be much of a passer yet, it makes sense that Klien is out in front.

I am not too worried about any of this because I am very confident that Braxton will win the Heisman atleast once at Ohio State.  I think next year he get's it!!

If Paul hornung could win the Heisman on a 2 win notre dame team, why don't they just hand the award to te'o in advance?

I'm not even sure Te'o is the best defensive player in the country let alone best player in all of college football.

Ann Arbor I agree, I looked up college football tackling stats and Te'o wasn't even in the top 20. He is a great LB don't get me wrong but I think a lot of his Heisman hype is due to his inspirational story, being from ND and being undefeated, combined with the fact that ND doesn't have a dominant offensive player but every undefeated team somehow has to be represented in the heisman race. Imo he can't win it though because it would be like recognizing him as the greatest defensive player of all time. When was the last time a linebacker got this kind of Heisman hype?

teo is being vastly overrated by the talking heads in college football. like buckupnorth said hes just reaping the benefits of being the leader of a defense that is playing well as a unit.

mark may wins douchebag of the year... again

I don't see where Braxton isn't getting credit from the media. He is always in the Top 5 heisman lists that I have seen. Not sure what else you could expect. I don't think he is the best player in college football this year because he makes too many mistakes and is not accurate enough in the passing game. I will be happy if he just gets invited this year, and hopefully he can improve and win it in one (or two) of the next two years.

I am basing my views just by numbers alone, and need for 1 player to carry a team...Braxtonand Kleins #'s are very similiar, and i agree with an above post Klein has played a tougher schedule etc. Guess im used to Mark May and other ESPN commenHaters not givin the bucks any love! And i dont see how Te'o is so hyped as a defensive player at #2 mostly, hes lucky he is on Notre Dame and gets the exposure...He isnt in the top 20 in tackles, let alone the best defensive player in the country...

Nova- Horning also beat out Jim Brown in 1956, who had far superior stats.

That was before an African American could win the trophy.  Soooo.... The Heisman is a pageant. And there are non written rules. "We" are not relevant according to the mainstream media.  It is an unwritten rule this year, that if you are ineligible you don't win.  Take Mark May trying to turn the Heisman into a 2 player race with a month left in the season!?!  Blahhh.

No one from the Ohio State sports media department is making a push. All a part of Urban's plan for next year. When a REAL football season will be played. We want Braxton to make a trip to New York City, but not win. Which the publicity rush for next season will begin.

I'd take Shazier over T'eo.

I seem to remember some guy named Troy Smith. He didn't have the best stats by any means but there was no question he was best and most valuable player in the country.

The lack of competition is what is hurting Brax the most right now. Next year, this award is his to lose imo.

I don't think its about Braxton.  OSU is completely off the radar screen of the national media.  You hardly ever even see our scores on ESPN since they went with the BCS rankings.  If the Buckeyes were in the BCS runnng and being featured by major networks in their coverage, I think Braxton would be getting a lot of Heisman love.  The fact that he is even in the running this year speaks to the general weakness in the field.

Coming off an undefeated season with OSU ranked in the preseason top 5, Brax will be a front-runner at the beginning of next year.

If K-State loses, Klein will probably not win the Heisman, granted he still has a bigger chance than Te'o does with a loss.  Manziel cannot be discounted, either; since he is way more productive than either Miller or Klein in total offense (averaging like 370+ yards a game, compared to Braxton's ~300), but his team isn't a "sexy" team yet.  If Manziel comes out and upsets 'Bama, you bet your ass he's in this.

The Heisman is a media award, like AESCULUS mentioned, it's a damned pageant.  There's no doubt in my mind the best player hardly ever wins: From Tommy Frazier, to Ndomikong Suh, to even Colin Johnson, the list of "best players in college football" who were slighted is unreal.

Problem is, you just can't be exceptional.  You need a story.  You've got to capture the nation's interest and succeed when the spotlights burn you with their intensity (this is Manziel's problem, A&M hasn't beat any marquee SEC teams).  Hell you could argue that RGIII--one of the few underexposed Heisman winners--even accomplished the former when his Baylor squad upset a ranked TCU squad in the first week, and then beating Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and Texas to round out the season.  Te'o has media interest, leading a resurgant ND team back into the spotlight.  Klein has interest, leading an upstart KSU to the cream of the Big 12, compiling dual-threat efficiency and lots of touchdowns in the process.  Braxton has interest, ripping off highlight-reel runs while leading the sanctioned Buckeyes to 10-0.  Make no mistake, the media pays attention to OSU; I recall reading BSD, where they were saying that "only OSU" could be disallowed in the BCS rankings, yet still get 5 minutes of every ESPN BCS Countdown show devoted to where the Buckeyes would place.

No, Miller's Achilles Heel is his passing.  Honestly, 72nd in the nation just doesn't cut it for me.  Sorry, but he shouldn't be winning the award with those kind of numbers.  It's one thing if he doesn't have a lot of yards--paging 2006 Troy Smith--but you've got to have rediculous efficiency to get a vote there.

There's still a chance for Miller to emerge at the top in NY, but his road is tough.  He's got to put up 300+ yards through the air against both Wiscy and Michigan, limit his turnovers, and still manage to put up those highlight reel plays.  I'd love to see him do it, but 300+ yards passing is gonna be tough with his accuracy, and his receivers' propensity for dropped balls.

But next year, I'm weak in the knees just thinking about the possibilities.
