He had 4 blocks going into 2012 . Had 2 in 2010 and 2011 which is 1 behind the record for a career. How many does he have this year. The record holder Vic Janowicz has a excuse 4 of those were in blizzard game with michigan in 1950.

It's no so much Buchanan's fault as it is the terrible spread punt formation! Why does the staff insist on running this god awful formation?!?!
You're projecting the blame onto the wrong guy. If you have watched the blocked punts, they've been due to a defender being completely unblocked. Not much he can do about that.
How about 4 block punts in 2010 and 2011
Take the blocks out of the equation and the fact of the matter is Ben is not a very good punter, bad hang time and poor distance. Can't wait for Johnny Townsend, HS senior and can out punt Ben today.
One thing is for sure, he took 5-6 steps on the kick that Penn State blocked. Should be 0.5 to 1.5 steps. If it was a so-called "rugby" punt, the blocking scheme sure wasn't adequate for that.

He should take a large part of the blame. He takes too long to get the punt off and ends up about a yard closer to the line of scrimmage than a punter should. Both of these problems are caused by horrendous footwork.
A good college punter (and long snapper) should get the ball off within 2.1 seconds. Buchanan typically takes closer to 2.5 seconds. Also, the punter should only need to step forward about 4 yards to get the punt off. Buchanan takes 5-6 yards. The reason is all in his footwork. The punter should take 3 steps. Watch his feet when he punts. He does a little skip in his steps, which adds to his time holding the ball and to the distance he moves towards the line.
The blocking has been bad, but his poor technique is just as big, or bigger, of a factor in the blocks.
