Tonight promises to be a great matchup between Conner(9-2) and Franklin County (11-0). Both teams has shown the ability to put up huge numbers on the scoreboard. Both teams have several D1 players headed by Drew Barker and Ryan Timmons. Last years game was close at halftime 42-41 but in the second half Conner adjusted and was benefitted by FC having 11 turn overs. Conner on side kicked 5 times in 2nd half and recovered 4 along with 3 interceptions and 2 fumbles to go on and win 84-48. It was a freak game but I still expect 120 points in this one.
Last year Barker was sensational with about 250 rushing yds and 3 TDs. Timmons was great as well with over 300 yds.
People better come early for this one. Should be a great exhibition of 2 potential Buckeyes.
I am assuming this will be the thread for the game? Your updates on Timmons are fun to read. I for one think the kids talents are amazing and am hopeful he is a Buckeye.
I'd like to see some updates on this game... Let us know which OSU coaches are in attendance also... I'm hoping Barker gets an offer tonight or after The Game. Timmons is a great player and I would take him, but I want Barker to be our 2014 QB.
84 points is insane. Especially when the other team doesn't have a zero or single digit score.
I'm going to try to make it. I don't get off work til 5:30 though so I'm a little nervous about whether or not I can make it in time. I've been saying all year I was going to go to a game of Barker's, but I've yet to make it out. I think this will be his last game this year, I just don't think Conner is nearly good enough to beat them, but Conner did beat Cooper who is one of the better teams in 5A this year. We'll see. Their D is just so bad, They've lost to a couple of teams who really shouldn't have beat them.
Where is the game being held at? I haven't decided if I can go yet but see if I get a chance. Would be awesome game to watch!

Even closer than I thought. I was thinking up near cincinnati in Newport. Frankfort is less than an hour.
Should plan on getting there by 7 if you want a seat. I normally stand or go to visitors side but I expect that to be full 2 nite. UK basketball may impact crowd some? Let me know Ill leave a ticket at will call. I would guess Coach Hinton might be there since I read where he was in TN.

Waycraken - Where would you rank Barker as far as QB's go in KY? I know he's just a JR, but would you put him up there with seniors like Bolin, Wright, Woodside, etc.?
I'm really considering going, but I Google mapped it and it says it's about an hour and 25 minutes from my house. I was REALLY hoping it would be at Conner which is about 15 minutes from my house. I honestly doubt UK playing will have too much of an impact on the crowd size, and with the realitve closeness to NKY I would think Conner will be represented quite well. With 2 high profile players like Barker and Timmons, and the crazy game they had last year, It'll probably be pretty packed.
TENNBUCKEYE. I can comment on 3 of the 4. I dont know so much about Wright.
The 3 other QBs are really quite different. One is pur Pro style one is a Hybrid and the other is perfect for the spread.
Bolin is a good Pro Style QB. Accurate and efficient. Not much for the intangibles but may have the best accuracy among the 3.
Woodside is a hybrid. Camps has him as pro style but has been highly effective running the spread for Franklin County. Very accurate very close to Bolin and about the same arm strength but isnt shy about lowering his pads and trying to run someone over. He is very good on defense and could probably be D1 on Defense. So that should give you an idea what kind of kid he is.
Barker is a Stud. Not as accurate as The other two but a stronger arm. Fast for his size but not Miller fast. But better arm than Miller and every bit as strong. Probably physical wise he is lots like Tebow except a little bigger and better arm.
i would rank them
Barker. Woodside. Bolin. Wright(but not comfortable ranking him)
Here's how I know Barker is really good. Everyone in NKY claims to know him or they went to school with his dad, or he's their best friends' neighbor etc. I haven't heard of so many people knowing a high school football player in the the NKY area since Shaun Alexander. Apparently, Alexander had about 250,000 neighbors and realitves, and Barker is reaching that kind of celebrity status lol.
I think Barker would be a great pick up for the Buckeyes... I hope his offer comes soon. When someone says he's "a lot like Tebow" then I'm game. Tebow may be terrible in the NFL, but he was a great college football player and leader. Let Barker come in and redshirt for a year then battle Jones and Barrett for the starting job.

These coaches know what they're doing...of course Smitty will be there. For both Barker and yes...Waycrack, Timmons too. I personally think Timmons may get his offer if Quick chooses Louisville...or may be even if Quick chooses OSU (24-25 in this class...which would be fantastic).

Conner has mainly ran the ball. Barker is about 1-5 passing but bad situations when he passed. He is probably avg about 4 yds per carry but he got a big 15yd sack to bring those numbers down. Plus the ctr had 2 bad snaps.
Conner is putting the whole D on Timmons and FC is hitting the open man. Timmons caught a nice 52 yd pass that he had to wait on to set up another TD.

I'd take Timmons over Gibson, Elder, and I put him on the same level as Quick (albeit a slightly different position). Gibson and Elder seem to be recruited for the slot and I like Timmons over both. Plus if Gibson has grade issues, Timmons would seem like the lower risk

I played high school football against Division 5 Newark Catholic back in the early 90's. Division 5, at the time, was the smallest in the State. Newark Catholic had a RB/S named Rob Kelley who played against the likes of Johnstown, Utica, Lakewood, Licking Valley, Granville....etc. a bunch of Div 3&4 schools from Licking County. Kelly's competition wasn't the toughest, but he managed to be a 2 year starter at safety for the Buckeyes and helped beat Arizona State in the '97 Rose Bowl. He Got Drafted by New Orleans in the the 2nd round of the NFL Draft.
I also played against a RB/LB from Heath, Ohio named Matt Calhoun. Calhoun played against the same small school Licking County teams that Kelley played against. Calhoun played Fullback for OSU, starting a couple of years and blocked for Eddie George and Pepe Pearson.
Point is, a players skill is what should be being measured, not the competition. OSU isn't recruiting the competition, they are recruiting the kid. John Cooper didn't judge these 2 Licking county runningbacks based on how they ran against the likes of me. Their Skill was evident.
Timmons's knack for finding the endzone is definitely a rare skill. Sign him up.

Word was Smith was at Barker's school. I believe it was said on another post that Smith will be at the game.
I talked to a school official and I was told Urban was suppose to be here Normally Timmons is swarmed by reporters after the game. Tonight they rushed him off the field after the game. Not to sure what to take from that.

Urban was in Georgia today recruiting, and I believe is visiting his Daughter for her Senior Day volleyball game this weekend. Unless he pulled some crazy travel schedule I don't think he made it. Would go a long way for Timmons offer chances if he did however, and I hope at least one coach was there

That is awesome if they do play at Cooper next week. Cooper was a pretty good team this year, and Cooper is even closer to my house than Conner. I'll definitely go to that game and watch Timmons in person.

For whatever reason Conner is a joke at releasing their box score stats, so we probably won't get a real stat line on Barker. Sounds like he played a pretty impressive game as well.

He did. Conner had too many turnovers. Barker tried to will his team but let me tell you they have two other good kids on offense. McKeon or something like that and Fogel. Basically both defenses played well both teams are that good offensively. It was something to watch Barker and Timmons giving it their all. Both were equally impressive in their own way.
Getting a kid like Timmons, that desperately wants to be a Buckeye means a lot. This is a quote from Quick as it was in a Rivals story on his recruiting "I just look forward to playing for somebody who is going to help me produce and do what's best for me." I do not know if I like a kid making that statement or not. In a sense it seems very me, me, me. On the other hand every player wants to go to the school that will help them excel. Just makes one wonder.

Lou I get what you are saying, but these kids have so many interviews and sound bites etc that I'm not sure I would be too worried by the comment. What is clear to me, though, is it is better to get a guy who is immensely talented and wants to play for the name on the front of the jersey as well.
To JohnB's post on page 1;-) Rob Kelly was a RB and my old HS played them in regular season (Clear Fork). Rob Kelly was a senior DB/RB...against my HS, his RB skills were unreal. He was like a human battering ram against CF's defense. They couldn't tackle him...it wasn't pretty. Kelly as you mentioned John, had a great career at Safety for the Buckeyes.
