Wow...when I participated in the early 90's it wasn't a 5 to 1 guy to girl ratio (I think the technical term is sausage-fest)...but it's good to see how many more people show up now.
I don't think that this was such a big thing when I was an undergrad at TOSU. It wasn't so much a rite of passage as it was a sure-fire way to contract encephalitis. Mirror Lake was still teeming with untold filth and funk and had rusted pipes hidden below the water line just waiting to puncture a spleen. There was even rumor of a student death and a body...
Regardless, one warm night in May, my buddies and I decided to jump in just to say that we had. After a feveish session of Black Labels at Larry's, we made the proverbial leap. Almost instantly, OSU's finest found us there splashing about (no convincing our female freinds in attendance to join us) and forced us out of the murky waters via the power of their flashlights. We were free to go but nonetheless given a stern warning that we should never (EVER!) jump into this lake again unless we are on fire.
I jumped last night and it was awesome! When I jumped the crowds to watch were just starting to form so we got a huge round of applause when we did it. I don't know why I didn't do it last year!
it is 12:55pm and Michigan still SUCKS!

My freshman year, in 2008, it was snowing. I remember I had script Ohio emblazoned across my chest in Sharpie ink, and ran from my dorm (Park Hall) down to the Lake and back in nothing but my boxers. I honestly didn't even feel the cold; the adrenaline was coursing so profusely through my veins I was numbed to the core. After a few dips, my friends and I wound up back on our top floor (Park Penthouse for the win); and there was this slimy, dingy, muddy trail leading into the guys' bathroom. My entire coed floor had set up camp in that bathroom, turned all the showers to "Hotter than Dante's Inferno", and we basically all cleaned off and warmed up in unison. I remember it like yesterday...
That would be my friends and myself haha. We call the goose Gary and he has graced our apartment for 2 years now. We also have a second goose which is in the attack position, we call him Greg. Unfortunatly the cops took Gary from us last night and put him in the trash :(
After those two years, I decided to just watch it. We had a few Penn State and Ohio U students who came to the lake with us last year in and they were blown away by our tradition and hate for Michigan!
Ohio State's band SLAUGHTERED Michigan's band. If this were a football game, it would have been Florida State vs. Savannah State. - SB Nation following OSU vs. UM 2012

I feel soo bad for all of those students.. Not a single person seemed to be enjoying themselves..haha that's freakin awesome!!
Best student tradition in collegiate sports. Bar none.
I love that someone is toting around a goose decoy. College is the best.
When told OSU set school record for 50+ games this year, UFM said "That's good. We're gonna break that next year."
Is that an O-H-I-O fail @ 6:26? Come on, guys!
I'm sure they were half-numb from the cold, and half-numb from the alcohol...I'm willing to give them a pass :-)
The time is 9:29am and *ichigan STILL SUCKS!

Amazing, was never like this when I was there.
Washington crossing the Delaware @4:19 = awesome. Would have been perfect to see some lady bucks tip the boat over, just for fun.
In my opinion, it was ten times rowdier than last year. Gotta be a win

Nothing will ever compete with jumping my sophomore year in 2006. #1 vs. #2...crazy crazy night.
Good God, I wish I could've been there.
