9-yr old girl highlight video

Set your avi

Thanks for sharing Cal.  That might be the most fun highlight video I've ever seen.  She gives as good as she takes too.  She really made the team in orange look bad.

Hey Waycraken.... I think we've found your next Timmons.

Girl's a beast!  You know what, if she's having fun and wants be out there, I see no reason to keep her off the field.  Go Sam!

I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.

That was the coolest thing I think I have ssen in awhile.  her cuts were awesome.  And her field vision was better than some middle school and high school kids I've seen.  Haha!  Go Sam!

I know it was a highlight reel, but the thing that seemed unreal, was the way she carried the ball away from the defense.  You see even some college age running backs that need to learn that.

So I guess the only question is, when is Urban gonna offer this girl already?!?! No but seriously that was an awesome video, really cool to watch. That girl is amazing! Good post Cal!

Man this brings me back. When I was 11 I was in my 4th or 5th year of little league baseball and there was a rumor of a team having a pair of twins-one boy and one girl who formed their respective team's battery. It was a local little league so a lot of my school friends were in the league\on different teams and a friend of mine played their team the first game of the year and struck out to the girl 3 times. I remember making fun of the kid at a birthday party for the entire day. It was all fun and games until our team played them. I batted third and watched her fan the  leadoff and #2 hitter but still thought "pffft, toast". I saw 12 pitches that game. I was 0-4. The girl only played another 2 seasons before making the transition to softball-where she went on to lead our public highschool to a state championship. It seemed like she was throwing 75 miles an hour. I was utterly terrified by my fourth at bat and gender had nothing to do with it anymore.

Good for this girl. Show up loud mouthed kids (like myself) who are surely giving her shit about playing ball.

I had the pleasure of coaching Little League Baseball, working with 9-12 yr olds.  I drafted a girl to our team when she was 10.  Did the same thing Sam's coach did by down talking her in the draft so I could get her with my pick.  She played catcher for our team for 3 years.  The first game that she caught, the other coach decided to run on her (in LL you can not run on the pitcher, have to stay on the base until the catcher has the ball).  She threw out the first 3 boys who tried to run on her.  Needless to say, no other team attempted that. She ended up moving to fast pitch after her LL days, damn good catcher there too!

Sam's highlights are quite something.  Some kids just get it - kind of have "football sense" - and she has it.  Thanks for sharing CAL3713.

I'll tell you what a better story is, Keeling Pilaro. Thats a boy in Long Island that was all league playing varsity field hockey as an eighth grader. He had to sue to play his freshman year, because he was deemed to be "to good." The kid stands 4' 8" and weighs in at 88 lbs. The kid moved to the states from Europe where, appearantly, field hockey is a popular boy's sport. Story's like Keelings' are the reason I don't get all warm and fuzzy when I watch little girls play football. I consider girls playing football a novelty. Kind of like stopping by "farmer Jones" place to see the two headed calf. All the girls, and the two headed calves, tend to have short carreers. Reality really sucks, doesn't it.

Good for her.

The fact that parents are making highlight videos of 9-year-olds complete with yards per carry stats and what not is actually pretty disturbing to me.  As a father of young children I can tell you that I do enjoy seeing my children succeed on the athletic field, but videos and stats are just too much IMHO.

It is not a bad thing for grils to play football, it is a stepping stone to something else in there life. My daughtry plays and she has yet to miss the allstar team. She starts on Def. at middle linebacker and she plays coner cause she can keep the edge. It is funny to watch cause at frist they see her and run right at her and she gets of blocks and makes tackles then they try to run away from her and she runs it down from the back side. The funny thing is she love her softball more then anything and in the dum state of georgia softball is played in the fall and the middle school coachs are wanting here to come play for her in softball. I told her when she frist started to play football that it will toughen her up to play any spot on the softball feild. The funny reason she wanted to play football the frist year was to hit her big brother.

Her twitter handle is blowing up as we speak! lol

Couple of observations:

-SOJ was definitely in use! Awesome

-read option plays, defense had a spy on her and she still took it to the house!

-don't recall playing on any fields like some of those. The dirtball fields were more like it!

-did I see a sack celebration dance?

-helmet to helmets, chop blocks....to learn such horrible things at such a young age!

I loved it. Whatever you are thinking, you gotta understand not many kids at that age are that accelerated on the football field. If you can get any kid to do some of those things, it would be unreal. Half of the kids on my 10 yr old nephews teams couldn't line up right let alone run a read option play. Damn!

She could take a hit, especially 3 yards out of bounds. Good for her. My son's 5th grade league has two girls who are serious over-acheivers, but the can't run like this !

NC_Buckeye's picture

Sam's football instincts are off the chart. Makes me sad that her likely growth patterns will not allow her to pursue this to the highest levels. I'm thinking she'll probably plateau as a freshman or sophomore in high school. When I played, I never saw a girl on the field past jv-ball. I think the level of contact past those years probably dissuaded the girls I played against from pursuing it further. I can definitely relate to Brewster's little league observations though... in that I was a big slow lineman.

The worst situation was girls who wrestled in high school. Thank god they were nowhere near my weight-class. The guy on our team who lost to a girl ended up quitting. The stigma was unfortunate.

Anyways, I bet she loves playing the game. I hope she never loses that love.

Gordon is a slightly-built but strong back with explosive acceleration and agility. Her strength/quickness combination and elite vision makes her a load to handle one-on-one. Gordon displays incredible suddenness when cutting, and forces opposing defenses to rally to the ball. Gordon is also known as a hard worker and fabulous dresser on and off the field. Areas for improvement include average long-distance speed and marginal upper-body strength. Gordon had a combine worst bench of 27lbs! +’s--acceleration, quickness, vision. –‘s—upper body strength, is a 9 year old girl. Overall Grade—2nd round—Mel Kiper Jr.

I loved watching this video, not because of the novelty of a 9 year old girl starring on her football team, but it brought me back to my peewee football days... I was the 'little kid' in class, but the benefit of being little is you're much faster at that age. I was put on the D-line against much bigger kids... But as we all see now with Noah Spence, speed kills. Recorded six sacks against the Southend Packers in one game. Peewee glory!

My high school alma mater has had a couple of girls play varisty ball.  Its a small town, so there's usually a spot for them.  A few years ago, one of the them was on the homecoming court as a senior.  She sat in her dress on the float until halftime, then went and suited up.  Gotta say, it got the crowd pretty pumped to see that.

BuckeyeEd, I'll troll a nice comment for you..She's the best football prospect I've ever seen for her age. Hope after she rushes for 3600 yds in high school, she comes to tOSU. I didn't say anything negative about the little girl, I just made an observation. Let me help you with the translation- "It's a lot of fun when there little kids and all the same size." Then I followed with- "she probably won't be playing in the coming years." That's my personal prediction, which is again my opinion. Then, I thought the down votes were pretty funny on that post, so I followed it with another. Basically to see who thinks that little girls playing football is such a serious issue. I actually enjoyed the taking the hit segment of the highlights. My final post is really just a pet peeve, and it wasn't my intention to express it when I watched the video. Girls have to be permitted to play on boy's teams, but that street only runs one way. I wasn't comparing anything Cincy, just making a statement. Ed, I've got your troll. Haha

@Cajunbuckeye

FYI, I'm pretty sure its the comments like

She'll be a chearleader 5 years from now.

that people are taking offense to, because it seems pretty sexist.  Its not that girls playing football is a serious issue, its that you came on here and did nothing but try to diminish what she was doing instead of just enjoying it for what it was.

Alhan, opinions are like a$$holes, everybody's got one, but everybody's does the same. I saw a chimpanzee ride a bicycle down in Florida a few years back. I'm telling you, that little guy could really get rolling; but never once did I think I was watching the next Lance Armstrong. It's nice that you got a thrill out of watching the video. I got a kick out of "taking a hit", kids that size are always entertaining. I don't care what you read in between the lines of my post, I'm not here to entertain or please anyone but myself. FYI, thanks for your opinion.
