Your final 5 for 2013

So far we have 17 commits. Lets assume we get to 22 spots available for the 2013 recruiting class. Who would be your best case scenario final 5 guys that were recruiting to complete our 2013 recruiting class?

Mine

Vonn Bell- S

Dorian Johnson- OL

Mike Mitchell- LB

James Quick- WR

Sheldon Gibson- WR

Best Case? Bell, Quick, Johnson, Mitchell, and Tony Stevens

Who I think will end up in the class: Mitchell, Worley, Gibson, Stevens/Timmons, and Munger/surprise

Hearing it's going to be more and more likely we get to around 24-25. If that's the case a hopeful/somewhat realistic finish to the class for me would be:

WR Shelton Gibson

WR James Quick

LB Mike Mitchell

S Vonn Bell

OL Dorian Johnson

And then 2-3 of the following: Tony Stevens, Rober Foster, Sebastian LaRue, Demorea Stringfellow, Ryan Timmons, Trey Johnson, James Hearns, Daniel McMillan, Holland Fisher, Donovan Munger, and Chris Worley.

@Hayze... Where have u read that we will get 24-25? Just wondering...

You and Hayze have the obvious choice for "best-case scenario," but I'm thinking it will be Johnson, Gibson, Mitchell, Quick, and Elder.

If we go over 22, I do think we flip one of the Gator commits or Trey Johnson. I'm not sold on Vonn Bell since he cancelled Nebraska trip

Bell, Stevens, Quick, Mitchell, and Johnson would be my 5. Not sold on Bell either tho.

Where have you heard about anything between us and Sebastian LaRue? I know that kid.. It would be insane for me to see him end up at Ohio State some how (he is a verbal for USC).

Someone had mentioned Bell canceled his visit last weekend and wanted to reschedule it for the end of the season not because he lacked interest in the program, but so he could spend more time on campus and with Urban. He didn't want to rush his official visit

ATH - Robert Foster

OL - Dorian Johnson

LB - Jalen Smith (FLIP)

S - Vonn Bell

WR - Tony Stevens

I think in the final 5 there will be some surprises.

Good player's make the play's they're suppose to, great player's make the play's they're NOT !!!

Jaylon Smith? That's ambitious, especially given ND's and Teo's run this year. Would love to see it, though.

1. Gibson

2. Mitchell

3. Johnson

4. Quick

5. Hearns or McMillan

I would love to see Bell, would not be surprised to see Worley, and will be curious to see how the whole Gibson/Quick/Foster/Stevens/Timmons scenario plays out. Munger is anybody's guess.

Dorian Johnson, Tony Stevens, Chris Worley, Shelton Gibson, Ryan Timmons.

Best Case Scenario - Bell, Mitchell, D. Johnson, J.Quick, R. Foster

Worst Case Scenario- Worley, Gibson, Timmons or Elder, Munger, & 1 of McMillan, T.Johnson, Hearns to flip

Either one is fine w/me. Both have a solid safety, 2 playmakers, 1 LB & a OL/DL

But in the end my realistic guess is we take 6 more to 23 in this class.

1. Worley 2. Mitchell 3. Munger 4. Hearns/T. Johnson 5. Timmons/Elder 6. Gibson

I based by 24-25ish on the fact that players will transfer out in addition to those that already are confrimed (Chris Fields probably one of them) and players going pro (at least one of Hankins/Roby sadly).

Regarding Sebastian LaRue, there was word a couple weeks or so ago that he is going to take an official here.

Not sure why people are losing faith in Bell. Obviously there's a long way to go but just because he cancelled one visit doesn't mean that we're out of it. He's already visited here twice and he lives fairly far away. It's might actually benefit us more for him to visit after the season ends. He'll get a more up close and personal look at the univserity than with 30 other kids and will get more one on one time with the coaches. He loves our staff and we should be in it until the end.

Love your five, but I have to think we won't get more than 3 of them.  If we get Bell, Johnson & Mitchell, however, I'm really not going to care about who the last 2 are.  If I could only have one of those guys, I'd take Mitchell...

To the questions about us going over 22 - can that even happen? I guess as long as they end up at 82 but don't go over 25 per year then it's legit? Can someone answer on this? Thanks.

edit: guess not...

I also read somewhere (read so much it all gets lost in that black hole between the ears) that 24 could now be the number. If that comes from them now knowing of attrition in terms of transfers, leaving for NFL or whatever at years end. Some guys see the writing on the wall about playing time and such. 24 is fine with me.

Mitchell, Johnson, Gibson, Quick, Stevens, McMillan & Alex mentioned an offensive player flip.

Bring in the playmakers!

I'm pretty sure have a better chance of hitting a 5 team NFL moneyline parlay than I do at picking what final five 17/18 year olds will commit... but here goes nothing:

  1. WR - Gibson
  2. ATL - Worley
  3. LB - Mitchell
  4. DL - Munger
  5. OL - Johnson (maybe this counts as the player flip...?)

Best case scenario?  Hmmm...

Dorian Johnson - OT

Mike Mitchell - LB

Vonn Bell - S

Receivers are the hardest ones to pick because there appear to be several who would be great in this Offense.  Ideally, for taller guys, I'd take any one of Marquez North, Demorea Stringfellow, or Tony Stevens.  For the others, it's tough to pick between James Quick, Shelton Gibson, and Tyler Boyd (didn't I read he received an offer recently?).

EDIT:  Okay, none of the sites are reporting a Boyd offer, so scratch that.  If Ryan Timmons received an offer, you could replace Boyd with Timmons on my list.

in order of confidence -

1) gibson - if he didn't join it would just be awkward at this point. the guy has made a clear, conscious effort to show his dedication to buckeyenation

2) tony stevens - i think this is the mystery flip player alex was talking about, he decommits from fsu and immediately has osu at the top

3) mike mitchell - he was smart to play it out after his awesome nike sparq performance at camp, but in the end he sticks with his original gut feeling of being a buckeye

4) dorian johnson - actually feel pretty good a bout this one.  pitt has always been his favorite, but when he "got the feeling" after visiting penn state he committed, i think he'll get that feeling again, afterall, ohio state is a much more comparable school to penn state than pitt

5) vonn bell / chris worley / trey johnson / other LB flip from florida lol - the staff has been all over the place on the defensive "back 7" recruiting, i think they'll take vonn bell if they can, otherwise they'll try and close the deal on another LB recruit

What are the chances we flip this Holland Fisher kid if we miss on Bell?

Set your avi
Buckeye06 on 10 Oct 2012 - 10:41am #

My best case is that the top 5 recruits in the country decide they don't want to play anywhere else and come to tOSU.

edit: I'm pretty sure we at least tried to recruit them all...so they would count

Honestly, I'm not gonna worry about this til after the season.  There are 3 months to only focus on recruiting in december-february this year.

Dream scenario:

Bell

Johnson

Stevens

Quick

Mitchell

My Prediction:

Worley

Mitchell

Stevens

Gibson

Bell

Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite

Something just seems off to me about Worley. WIth everyone clamoring over Bell, I wonder if he has a committable offer. As others have said, I think if Vonn Bell decides to go elsewhere, the focus would turn to another linebacker. I think they'll finish with:

1) Shelton Gibson

2) Mike Mitchell

3) Dorian Johnson

4) Donovan Munger

5) A flipped linebacker -- possibilities include Jaylon Smith (maybe a pipe dream, but Rod Smith has been getting a lot of love from the coaching staff and the fan base lately), Daniel McMillan, and James Hearns

Bell, Johnson, Quick, and Mitchell would be insane. Anyone else after that is just another cake on top of an icing filled cake.

I get the same feeling with Munger as I do Worley.. Wondering if the offer is commitable.

As for Bell, I know he has been here for camp and one other visit, but I can't really think of a positive way to spin his cancellation of the Nebraska game. If he comes for an official in the offseason then I will be more optimistic about him and OSU, but at the moment it seems to be losing steam.

I love the optimism about flipping Jaylon Smith but I don't see it happening.  There's much more of a chance of flipping Trey Johnson, which I wouldn't mind one bit.
