Other than Big Hank, who I think is a lock for the draft (he's said he wants to be a 4 yr guy, but if you're a top ten pick then you have to take it) and Seniors of course, does anyone else think Bradley Roby might flirt with the NFL? He definetly could use another season or two to work on his game, but he also has the potential that will intrigue pro scouts. I believe he will stay but money talks! Anyone think he will go pro or that Hankins will stay?

I've come to grips with the fact that Big Hank will go (though like any sane Buckeye fan I'd LOVE him to stay, having a force like him to completely stop the run game + senior leadership on a young DL next year, could make the difference between a BCS championship run--if you think I'm crazy, look at the difference Cam Heyward made for us against Arkansas). As for Roby, I think he'll stay. He's been very good this year, but you have to think he knows he has room to grow, to improve his draft stock even more. It'd also be tempting to stay for a BCS run next year.
Hankins is a lock
Roby files the paperwork but stays. Leaves after his All-American junior year (and hopefully graduates).
Outisde of them there's no real threat or anybody that seems like they can be a really good player at the next level as of now.
Class of 2010
I think we may have a Mike Doss effect this year. We may get someone with good draft prospects stick around for a shot at a title.
So everyone thinks Hank is a lock? No real chance that he realizes how special what UFM is doing with this team and stays to try for the title next year? That makes me sad.
Yes there are two Buckeyes in Ann arbor on this site!
If you have a chance to set your family up for life, and hey, look at Lattimore to see why guys go early, no matter what is going on with football or national championships, if you have your priorities straight, you do it, you take the millions of dollars and change your life. Give me a break.
Thank the kid for three years of service to the state of Ohio, and to Buckeye fans everywhere and move on. Be happy for the kid.
(And good Christ, he hasn't even declared yet)
if im hankins i leave early... as for roby it depends on how high they see him going. as of right now i dont think hes top 10, where as if he stays one more yr i think he is a lock for top ten
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
Yeah Roby still needs some polish before he's ready for the NFL. Sure he's got the talent but he still relies too much on his speed to cover up his mistakes. Cant do that at the next level...
As I've said before, I'm not sure DTs cost themselves as much if they come back. Not saying Hank comes back but if he's top 10 this year, he likely will be again next year, unlike a bad year for a QB or a WR
If all the injuries that happened this year (on top of seeing what happened to Marcus Lattimore) a if you're a first round pick, go get yourself a pay day in the NFL. Hankins is my guy and as much as I would to see him anchoring the d-line next year, the best option for him is to declare for the draft.
Any kid that can go in the first two rounds should declare. Get the pay day. Football is a dangerous game and every college play is one more chance to get an injury that eliminates your chance to make the big money.
I think Big Hank should go (I hate to say it, because of how much he'd mean to this team next year). He's a legitimate top five pick, which if he's financially responsible he and his family would be set up for life from his first contract. He's a Buckeye and I'd rather lose him to the league a year early than see a potential career-threatening injury next year ruin that. Roby should stay, because his draft status would only be improved by a year back, and the fact that if he gets injured, he'd still have a senior season to remedy it.
Am I the only one that thinks Hankins has actually hurt his draft stock this season?! Personally, I haven't been all that impressed with Hankins this season; especially compared to last season. He really hasn't done much at all, other than take up two blockers with his sheer massive size. Now... I know others will be quick to jump on that statement and say things like ("What more do you want?" or "Isn't that enough?" or "He's a defensive tackle... he's not supposed to be making tackles!" etc.), but when I watch Hankins, I don't see that explosion or that "getting to the Quarterback" like NFL defensive tackles do. All I see is he stands up out of his stance and two lineman might be touching him. I don't him fighting.
I've been REALLY underwhelmed by our defensive line play (as a whole) this season. Sure, last night was great; but to be honest, it wasn't "great" until the 3rd Quarter when we FINALLY started blitzing. Idk why we haven't been blitzing that much this season, but coming into last night's game, OSU's defensive front has been struggling to get pressure on the QB. And last night, we weren't getting rpessure until we started bringing linebackers & rushers off the edge.
Right now, we have 20 sacks on the season. Hankins only has 1 of those 20. Heck... Dexter Larimore had 4 in 2010.
DON'T GET ME WRONG / TAKE THIS THE WRONG WAY...
I think Hankins is a heckuva kid... pretty solid DT... who will DEFINITELY find his way into the NFL... all I'm trying to say is...
I just don't see the sure-fire / lock top 15 pick (I did last season, but not this season). He's been a ghost for much of the season.
Quinn Pitcock was rated a first round pick if I recall correctly, came back and had a mediocre year then was drafted late. Saw something similar with Brewster last year, he was a lock for first 2 rounds as top center in the country, came back, then went undrafted after a bad year.
There's more than just injury risk. You need to go out when your tape looks awesome and before you get a chance to make mental errors that haunt you in scouting.
Scarlet, luckily for Hank scouts look at more than just sacks when evaluating 3 technique DTs. He is definitely NOT hurting his stock this year.
Your comment that NFL DT's get to the QB is incorrect. It depends on scheme but often you have space eaters at DT in the NFL and pass rush on the edges.
If he takes up two blocks on a lot of plays and just holds ground, he is doing his job. He gets doubled or a block and a chip often. His size and ability to move will maintain his spot in the draft. Just avoid any injuries and he will be fine.
If every big board has you in the top 15 you declare. Urban will tell him to declare I'm sure.
Also, I think Hank is the only underclassman who declares. Unless 1 of our O-lineman has secretly shot up draft boards without being recognized by the draft pundits. Roby is the only other candidate really but I somehow doubt he would go after only 2 years of college play.
I don't think Hankins has hurt his stock at all. He eats blockers and is still in the backfield all the time.. Not to mention he gets held all the time.
Those that are saying "if he takes up two blocks, he's doing his job..." In the NFL, teams won't be double-teaming him!
Exactly Scarlet, they won't be doubling him. Imagine this year if he wasn't doubled every play he might not be getting the sacks, but he would definately be disruptive and in the back field a heck of a lot. Also, as a DT he doesn't need to get all these sacks, but instead force the RB and QB to the outside into Simon, Williams, or Spence. I understand what you are saying, but for some positions the stat lines don't tell the whole story.
No one but Hankins should waste their time coming out early. Roby is not ready and will not be drafted that early at this point. He needs to take another year and improve to flirt with 1st/2nd round.
CBS had Hankins projected as the number one pick. He's a Top 10 lock. There is no way he stays. Take the money and run, you can always work on your degree in the summer.
Hankins is the only one that should depart. Hes the only sure fire 1st rounder on the team. Roby needs another year to show he can lock down everyone and he'll be good to go next year.
To the guy who said he's been a ghost all year, seriously dude? What have you been watching..he does things that guys his size shouldn't be doing..320lbs with sick lateral quickness. He's not going to be a guy that has gotti sack and tfl stats.

Hankins has clearly improved his draft stock in my mind. He has been in the back field all year despite being held and doubled. DTs aren't meant to rack up big tackles or sacks, but he has had games where he still gets a bunch of tackles. Obviously I would love to have him back, but he should do what is best for him which is clearly to go early.
Maybe Hank gets inspired and wants to go out with a chance to play for a NC, but I doubt it. When you get the chance to be a top ten draft pick, you've got to take the money. That's every young football player's dream. Too much at risk to return when you are getting a ton of money thrown at you. If a current student at the Fisher College of Business was offered a position at a Fortune 500 company before they graduate, don't you think they'd be foolish to turn that down? I'd love to see Hankins return, but if he can go high in the 1st round, I'd be selfish for wanting him to turn that down.
I still have a feeling that Hank will stay. Another year with Marotti would do him a world of good. I would have no hard feelings if he left, but the Dline will be sick next year with a health Bennett,Diesel,Schutt,Bosa(i know he'll be a frosh but man he has some natural gifts) and Hill... Please sign Mitchell and Bell!

spence has been good this year. He may not have a bunch of tacklrs or sacks but he gets in the backfield a lot to disrupt the Qb. I would love to see some faster giys on the oitside next yeat to get some more sacks.
Before the season Hankins said he'll most likely come back next season because he wants to win the National Championship, and also said the only way he would leave is if he was going to be the #1 pick. But that was before the season started, who knows.
I have no idea who will declare but some guys who have the talent to get a job in the bigs are...
Hankins, first and foremost
Mewhort
Norwell
Linsley, might need one more year
Roby
WR Brown, maybe the longest shot of those I've mentioned
That said I'd like to see them all return.
The only guy with first rounder locked up this year is Hankins, but I'm not so sure he will go. He should go, but he might pull a Mike Doss and stick around.
Don't know if Hankins will pull a Doss especially after what happened to Sullinger in basketball. Get while the getting is good is probably on his mind but I would absolutely LOVE to have him back for one more year.
