I got curious on how Berry's season was going so far and this is what I found.
RUSHING GP Att Gain Loss Net Avg TD Long Avg/G
BERRY, Jaamal 4 41 248 4 244 6.0 3 35 61.0
I realize that I'm comparing apples to oranges but I thought as good as he was supposed to be his stats would be better. I'm not hating on the kid but I'm thinking that he does not have the work ethic/attitude to go with his physical gifts. Hope he can put it all together sometime down the road.

Was extremely excited when he signed. The feeling of disappointment started soon after. Would have liked to see him under this coaching staff. Hope it all works out for him

Where is he at now?
Murray State (Ohio Valley Conf)
I always had great anticipation for the game in which Jamaal Berry would have his breakout moment..... unleash that offensive weapon that defenses couldn't contain. Injuries, Dan Herron and "other" issues never let it materialize. Hope he finds success in life.
I'll caveat that I haven't seen any of Jamaal's plays or the Racer's games. But looking at the stats, I think he's doing alright in their offense. He's only lost four yards, so he's not getting caught in the backfield a lot. Whilte the long of 35 to me means he's probably getting consistent 5-6 yard gains and his stats aren't inflated by a couple really long runs.
Keep in mind that Murray State only averages 102 ypg on the ground while passing for 366 ypg. So their bread and butter is their senior QB who has completed 70% of his passes, has 5 games over 300 and three games over 400 yards, and has thrown 12 TDs and 4 ints . The only game under 300 was when he was limited to 117 yards when they played Florida State first game of the season.
For what it's worth, Berry also has 14 receptions for 97 yards and a TD. And all his stats are through 4 games only as he didn't play in their first two games of the season. He's their best RB and will probably pass up the starter in rushing yards in the next game despite missing action in the first two games.
I used to love this kid. I was at the Eastern Michigan game a few years back when he broke off a long TD run. I thought he was going to be the next great running back at OSU. Sad to watch him fall off like this.
Thanks for the background on the Racer's offense Seth I was not aware that they were a pass dominant team. I just thought that with talent such as his he would be more dominant in the Ohio Valley Conference and expected much bigger numbers. I guess only time will tell if we lost a diamond in the rough.
I took the post as pointing out that he didn't really fall off. Things just didn't work out at tOSU and he's found a spot where he's succeeding athletically and hopefully academically. Good for him and best of luck. Sometimes guys like Berry flame out at a BCS school, transfer, learn a little and reach the NFL anyway. It also shows the wealth at tOSU in skill position players even when they're supposedly not too deep. Not really a bummer to hand the ball to Rod Smith as the fifth best option after Braxton, Hall, Hyde, and Philly.
6 ypc is still pretty solid though. Even though he's a junior, it's still his first season in that offense which on paper looks a lot different than Walrus' Dave oriented offense. I'm sure he'll probably get better numbers as the season wears on and next year with a new QB could see him getting a ton of yards as well.
