Season stats so far. 109 tackles 19 sacks. He should end up getting a 4th star when the final evaluations come out after putting up numbers like that. I remember seeing a few people crush the staff for offering this kid before the season started. I hope those same people now give the staff and Tracey the credit they deserve.
In Urban we trust.
"Did you push yourself to be great today? If you didn't do it you lost a day. We ain't got many days to lose. We're going to push your a$$ like its never been pushed because what you've got in you were going to find out" UFM
I can't wait for the updated final rankings of players (anyone know when rivals, etc does that?) I would think with numbers like that he'd make it into Rivals Top250...
When they first offered him I looked him up on ESPN and he was a Zero Star with an overall rating of 45.
@1STYRBUCKICLUB - I would also like to know & im sure many others would to. but Id imagine they dont come out till late November, early December at the earliest.
#Buckeyes
Another great example of how deceiving star rankings can be. Here you have a kid who didnt do the huge camp cycle, who doesnt play at a traditional high school powerhouse, and who doesnt have another stud player on his team to draw in the scouts. So naturally alot of these types of players will fall through the cracks and sneak past the recruiting services. I always was on board with Sprinkles' offer. You had to think if the staff was willing to take his commitment last spring when other "higher ranked" recruits were still on the board then they must have known something we didnt. That is especially true at a position like DL which Urban clearly puts a huge emphasis on.
....but his last name is "Sprinkle". Seriously though, pretty good stats. I think when looking at the high school level it's so tough to evaluate DL talent and how it's going to translate into the next level. I don't care if he gets that 4th star or not, I'm glad he's a Buckeye.
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
I cant wait to hear, "Quarterback sacked by Sprinkle" on Saturday.
"if irony were made of strawberries, we' d all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
I don't feel sorry for the kid he has a full ride to The Ohio State. He should be putting up monster numbers. Go Bucks!
I feel like he could be a Hankins type sleeper guy who makes a big impact
I never "Crushed" the staff but I had questions in my mind about the offer. Obviously this is proof that the coaches know what they are doing and it makes me have more confidence in them and their recruiting. I am glad to have coaches of this caliber on this team. Yes, I have questioned the defensive coaching but not the recruiting efforts. Go Bucks.
those stats are insane for any position on defense, but especially a DT getting that many tackles. Urban may not hit a home run with every commit, but I think this shows him and his staff know how to scout talent.
Don't give up... Don't ever give up.
This video is more impressive than Spence's video...WOW.
I'll admit, I was skeptical about Sprinkle, but his #s are quite impressive week in week out. Now i'm not sure his competition level, but you can't deny those stats. Hopefully that will translate to the college level and he'll be part of a stellar DL rotation we'll have.
I think he could add a star simply by changing his name. Two stars for changing both names. j/k
When he gets a sack in the shoe, they can play "Sprinkle Me man" by E40
Nothing makes a D tick like a pass rush from the middle of the line. If this kid can provide that in a few years, everyone will be better for it.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
His offer list would be more impressive if he had not commited so early and without question to the Bucks. He was just starting to be contacted by SEC and other schools when he commit. Often star ratings are pushed up by offer lists when there is a lack of scouting. And lets be honest, it would be near impossible for the scouting services to look at all kids equally with the staffing they possess and the sheer number of high school players out there.
He reminds me a lot of Cam Heyward...maybe it's just the number.
The people that crushed the staff are probably the same ones that suggested we sit Roby earlier in the year.
Tracy's never get the credit they deserve! Looks like a keeper...
I only needed to watch 4 minutes of his film before I had to stop because I would have gotten to excited for him to be on campus. His play on 2:56 is very impressive because it shows his great awarness (and the play before that) and it was a screen play which we have had trouble with this season.
It looks like he can stuff the run, but also has the ability to bring some pass rush and great awarness. When he gets bigger he will be unstoppable. He is going to be a great one.
F--- Michigan!
This is a great article on Tracy: http://chronicle.northcoastnow.com/2012/08/22/elyrias-tracy-sprinkle-is-trying-to-turn-tragedy-into-triumph/
Student section does "the Sprinkler" after each of his TFL's.
My favorite part of that video was watching him blow up Ben Gedeon (scUM commit) and get the sack
Tracy is even better than Sprinkle, IMHO...we get to announce that the QB was sacked by Tracy.
Good video, is it me or does he stand up straight when the ball is snapped? He's clearly outmanning most of the people trying to block him, but I think at the next level he'll have to work on that or it'll be real easy for someone to get their hands in his chest.
Just checked video on Bosa to compare and Sprinkle definitely gets more upright on his first step. Obviously Sprinkle is still a beast, and I'm happy to have him. Just something that'll have to get fixed
@NH-IO Don't judge a man by his name. One of the greatest linebackers ever, also had one of the most horrific names. Dick Butkus. -which i suppose growing up i always said butt kiss not knowing any different-
~Because we couldn't go for three~
He probably won't get an extra star because he's already committed.
"I like to kick Michigan's ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of gum."
@ JESTERTCF
Former Buckeye B-Ball player Dequan Cook, his Dayton area high school basketball coach's name was Peter Pullen.
Can't stop laughing^^^
@JBGOBUCKS man. that must have been a horrible birth for this mother to name him that name. LOL also thanks for the laugh
~Because we couldn't go for three~
I cant wait for the awful puns the announcers come up with on game days for this kid. "The Bucks were off strong and with a Sprinkle (airs midgame highlights of sack/TFL) of defensive help, they now have a commanding lead"
The kids take off is pretty quick. But he is going to have to come of that ball about a foot lower, he is standing up way too tall. But man that spin move is pretty nice for a guy that long. Probably a pretty good student of the game, because I don't remember all of those pass rush moves from last years highlights. Awesome to get a kid like that.
i dont care how many stars he gets when its all said and done. he looks like a ball player. gotta have complete and full trust in our staff
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
Per his twitter he will be enrolling in January.
~Because we couldn't go for three~
I can't wait for this whole class to get to town!! There are some Monsters in this class!!
Yes there are two Buckeyes in Ann arbor on this site!
I love it. In one thread, bash Hoke for taking a 3-star receiver. In the next, "Urban knows best!" and "stars are overrated"
Goes to show most of us aren't talent evaluators. And you think you are get a new job
Wherever you are, there you be!
Buckeyeinannarbor, I also like to look at recruits' offer lists, and Sprinkle had offers from Arkansas, Louisville, MSU, PSU, and Pitt among others.
It sucks that we put so much stock in 'star' ratings, when in reality, they do not have as much weight as we all actually put on these kids. I will admit, I was not gung-ho about Sprinkle committing like I was about, say Bosa, but that is because all I have to look at is Star ratings from stupid websites who supposedly 'evaluate' these kids, and if they do not go to camps or get in the off season circuit, they are not evaluated or recommended as highly as those who do, you know? I am not saying I was upset about Sprinkles committment, no way, but the excitement factor was just not there. Now that the season is almost over and I am seeing how dominate this kid is, My excitement factor has risen ten-fold, minimum. I try not to put too much weight in these stars and put all my trust in the staff, but it is hard when I am in a cubicle all day for my job and am not continuously evaluating these prospects in person. Stars are all I have, but over the past year, I can tell you for certain that I am putting less and less weight in stars and putting more stock and paying more attention to what the staff 'says' about certain people when they offer. If they offer someone, I want them, because that means they fit the system, and I am happy about that.
In conclusion, I am excited as **** for Sprinkle to get in the S&G!!!
damn you spread your butt cheeks in playgirl mag hahah
There is a difference between a 3* that gets offers from only MAC schools and a 3* with a true list of offers. A 3* can rank anywhere from 100 to 250 on the ranking list. Just because they are both 3* does not make them equal. Plus I think Sprinkle is earning a 4th star soon when he gets reevaluated. I think he actually grew a bit and is a much different player than before the season.
Actually star rankings have a lot of weight, but they are just not final. In general, they are mostly good evaluations of a kids potential here and now. The claim is an evaluation, not a prediction.
People live and die by star ratings, When is reality it should not be that way, it should just be used as another piece of the puzzle. I am just saying that all I have to go on are these star ratings and nothing else because I am an outsider.... To me, now, stars do not mean much, its all on how the coaches see them. Yea, its fine to put them in a place right now, but there are so many stories of 2-3 stars owning CFB and 5 stars justing busting hardcore in CFB. I forget who put it up a while ago, but there was a report or something that showed how many all americans and stuff were 2-3 stars compared to actual 5 stars. It was mind boggling. And that is why, I believe, stars should not have as much weight as they do, but coming from fans who are not in the evaluation game, all we have are these sites to rely on and we go by their star rankings because we have nothing else to do, other than watching 'highlight' films, which do not show the bad plays, or things they need to work on, etc.
IMO, i don't like the star rankings, I just don't. But hey, I am in market research, what do I know about recruiting? haha
Edit: but then again, they do a good job at trying to get everyone scouted, but there is always that human error and some rankings are not worth what it actually shows, or other factors play in and the kid ends up being better/worse than they thought, just a guessing game man. But these sites do a great job at looking at these kids, I am not trying to discredit their work, I actually appreciate it. But for me, I do not like putting too much stock in these stars
People in general just put way way too much emphasis on recruiting and rankings. Ten years ago, nobody realy cared about any of that stuff. Now, it's an obsession.
^^^ yea, very true, and that is cool because the evolution of this game is so intense, that factors that didnt matter before are blowing up. Just adds to the excitement.
Its a great time to be a college football nut...
Look at the recruiting rankings....then look at the national champions of the last 15 years. You won't find one who doesnt bring in top 10 classes regularly. Everyone likes to bring up AJ Hawk and JL and Jenkins who turned out to be great players, but we won a national title behind a RB who was #1 in the country, and a 5* through and through. Recruiting rankings matter, not for every individual guy, but overall
Key words, which strengthens what I am saying, "...not for every individual guy...' That is exactly, 100%, what I am getting at, because for Sprinkle, I feel, The rankings completely missed him, and because of it, I was not excited about his committment like I should have.
I am not saying that the Alabama's, LSU's, Ohio States, USC's, etc, should only go after 3* recruits, I understand if someone is amazing, they will help the team win. But the phrase "...not for every individual guy..." is what my statements talk about, not about bringing in top ten classes.
To be honest, I kind of liked it better when recruiting wasn't such a big deal. You'd show up to the games in the fall, and new stars would emerge that you never expected and had no idea where they came from. It was more of a fun surprise. Now, anytime a 5* doesn't materialize, it just makes me angry.
^^^ hahaha, yea, really. so much hype around 5*. i agree that i do get a little upset when they do not pan out
It was a terrible report because it did not take into account %. There are only 10-30 5* (depends on the ranking service) and 1000's of 3* and below. If just 1% of those 3*'s and below end up being really good they'd have just as many kids that were given 5*'s. It is a given that kids will be missed because they don't stand out yet, don't have the film in the right hands, or mature late. Doesn't make the rankings meaningless or terrible.
I think the biggest misconception is what the ranking services actually say their product is with the * rankings. If anyone follows the draft, it's no different and those players are even more proven. It's an inexact attempt to provide some clarity on who is getting the best talent. As another poster said, no team wins a NC without top ten ranked recruiting classes. As a whole, it is an effective, yet inexact, way of measuring individual potential at recruiting strength.
True, percentages were not taken into account. I overlooked that aspect, good catch on that. But I am not saying these services are meaningless or terrible, I just do not like them.
I know that it is hard as **** to try and get the right stars for every person, thats just impossible, because of that, I don't like putting to much stock in these, you know? But agreed that it is an 'inexact attempt to provide clarity', very true statement. I touched on that fact, but I guess it is more of a personal preference for me not to rely to heavily on stars, exactly for that point, you know?
Just voicing my opiniuons, Not like any changes are gonna be made by my gripes, haha
I get the personal preference thing. What this always comes down too is ones acceptance of a certain level of "failure" that is expected. Some people see failure as unacceptable on these things, which I feel is misguided on the purpose. Some people think a 75% sucess rate isn't good enough. I happen to believe that 60-75% success is acceptable for what they are trying to do, it's just as good as the best programs have with the kids they bring in. Remember, they are also the ones going after the 5*'s like rabid wolves.
For me, I expect a success rate of 60-75%, therefore when I automatically see a 3* I give him a 2*-low4* automatically to take into account for this. Even talking to the 247 guys they admit that guys 1-10/15 have little difference between them, it's just their way of seperating out the cream of the crop because their job is to rank them. This is very evident in their ratings as well. The 41st ranked WR on 247 is still a 4 star with a rating of 90. Last time I checked, that is still an A (unless you give out A-) and a very good rating. They are really saying, here are the group of WR's we think have the potentially to be really good. That is a lot of WR's...
Is he going to play DT for osu seems a little under sized for that position
Looks like raw talent. He has some technique, but he's mainly just overpowering people. Here's one that can shine with a little polish. He's quick for that size. This is an excellent example of recruiting by the staff.
An angry fan...rooting for an angry team...led by angry coaches
thanks for the feedback steensn, always good to have a discussion with people, egtting other views. Appreciate it.
I'm glad you are not a jerk about your opinion ;) Good discussion!
^^^ haha, true be to that
I will also add that it is especially more important for this staff to recruit players that fit the model more than just go after 5* athletes. I like JT Barrett better for this offense than I would Shane Morris or the other top QB ranked recruits. Not just for the dual QB reason but also for fit to the style of offense. JT is really good at the read option.
Sprinkle I think will fit this defense more than I think his ranking would matter. Good rush end that could move inside on passing downs.
Good points Squirrel.
