ya when you work on the radio and you say that a certain sports figure should die, i don't think it really matters who it is unless its art modell. then it's okay
Even though he had some idiotic things that have flown out of his mouth over the last few years, he's still funny at times and will be missed by some who follow the show. However, I feel twitter has become a platform for ppl to make stupid comments without repercussions (at least that's what they think until they press send and then their company or organization fires them).
Hodge...your pic is perfect;-)
Pumping gas at Citgo for the Torg...you can take that to the bank!

Personally I couldn't stand him on the radio. Same thing over and over and over. Torg starts talking, turn down your volume to 0 for 20 seconds turn back up and cue yelling at the top of his lungs. I don't understand how OSU fans can blame Kirk. Torg should know better, joke or not (which I believe it was) you can't say something like that in his position. Torg has thrown Herbstreit under the bus plenty of times of not being a true buckeye. Now you're mad that Kirk sticks up for a friend to a guy he already doesn't like? Makes sense, only Torg can bash someone on the radio and wish for someone to get fired or die.
Compared to a lot of things shock jocks have said over the years without any repercussion, this seems like sort of small potatoes. Makes me think The Fan didn't see any downside to getting rid of him.
I'm pretty shocked actually, I mean I thought he was annoying sometimes but overall wasn't terrible. What he said shouldn't have been enough to fire him so I wonder if they were just adding every other dumb thing he had said and decided that's enough.
Ahhh, our "politically correct" society strikes again....wishing someone to die publically, he should have known better, but this is all because the "politically correct" society people can't take a joke
Can we stop blaming Herbstreit for this? He didn't put a gun to Torg's head and make him send that tweet. Sure Herbstreit responded to it, but I bet a lot of people would have done the same thing had a friend/co-worker been in the same position (joke or not and Michigan fan or not). Bottom line is that Torg got Torg fired. In his position he should have known better than to tweet something like that (especially when you work for a ESPN radio station). To me it just reflects poorly on our fanbase (ironic because Torg always harped about the crazies)
The "hope he dies" comment is not politically correct or right in any way although I can't say how many times I have heard people use that phrase without actually meaning for it to happen. Yes it was a public forum and uncalled for there. He screwed up. I have screwed up more than I hope to recall in my life as every person on the planet has. Minus those atop the soap boxes of course. I am just thankful people looked past my transgressions enough to let me continue to live my life. Just get tired of the holier than thou stuff.
Less than two months ago this guy reached the absolute peak of his professional career (interviewing POTUS on live air) and now he's looking for a job.
I'll miss him on the show as I thought he and Mike had a good report with each other. That being said I still listen to the show with Krenzel. Anyone think T-Bone might get moved up to work that show with Common man? The show would still be CM&T then!
You can kill a fly with your slipper or a cannon. Either way, the fly dies. -Ramzy
@BuckeyeW, Nothing too exciting... Common Man confirmed Torg will not be coming back, but assured everyone that he (Common Man) isn't going anywhere. Said it sucks and he will miss working with Torg but they will continue their friendship off the air. Doesn't know anything about a potential replacement for Torg (if there will be one, he mentioned the possibility of him doing the show by himself)
That station is a freakin' circus. They cut ties with on-air guys left and right for the dumbest ish. They're the ones who trotted these clowns (CM and Torg) on the air for the last 6 years, knowing that they were idiots. And now they fire one for saying something pretty much consistent with his personality just because some hack from Nashville/Bristol says so.
The only people left at that station with even a modicum of integrity are Lori Schmidt, Paul Keels, Ronnie Stokes, and Jim Lachey. As for the rest of their programming, shove it. I can get 1230 and 850 in my car.
I hate for anyone to lose their job. Radio guys say stupid stuff all the time. DH should relize if you are on TV someone will say something about you. Get thicker skin! KH should have plenty experience with that. fwiw I was never a big Torg fan but again I hate for people to lose their job. He has a kid...
Hope he gets a manager's position at the Citgo.
Maybe tomorrow, when today will be yesterday things will be clearer.
Such a shame, those guys were the only radio show i could stand listening too, i refuse to listen to boring ass bishop and rothman and cowherd all day.
Look, Torg said something stupid. He shouldn't have said it. Does it mean he should've been fired? I don't think so. We are becoming way too sensitive as a society, and it's driving me nuts. The guy was joking. That doesn't mean that you get a free pass to say any dumb thing you want as long as you're joking, but considering that this is the first time that I'm aware of that he has said something to get himself in trouble, he should've served a suspension, and right at the start of the first show that he's back on, deliver a nice, sincere apology. Then, it's settled, and we all move on. If he has been in trouble like this before, then my point is moo moot.
He had issues with Blue Jackets management with his various honest "bashings" of their decisions. Kind of a conflict with him hosting various CBJ coaches' shows over the years.
D. Stanley says stupid stuff all the time and the refuse to get rid of him.

It angered me how this all went down. Yes, I realize that the Torg said something stupid, but if you listened to him you know it's his personality and he's just joking. Herbie came in and made it a national news story and once that happened they had no choice, but to fire him.
I get the feeling that ESPN mother ship had some influence on the decision to let him go. They had been critical of ESPN and ESPN personalities, but I'm not sure that would be on the ESPN radar.
I hate to think ESPN has any significant input on our local programming.

I hate Kirk Herbstreit...

wow. twitter gets another one. (citgo lulz)
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
Appropriate title with how much he used that citgo joke
Even as a stupid joke, saying you wished someone would die is asking to be terminated.
-The Aristocrats!
To be honest, I just hope they replace him with somebody a bit more intelligent.
ya when you work on the radio and you say that a certain sports figure should die, i don't think it really matters who it is unless its art modell. then it's okay
What will Ricordati do without his compatriot? Will he keep doing Citgo jokes?

We'll probably be hearing a lot less about the Blue Jackets, Vikings and Brett Favre on the drive home now...

Here's the Facebook link from 97.1 about Torg getting fired:

Based on reading some of the comments, a lot of people are upset but many of them make me question how mature some people are.
It's true... We really are a bunch of nuts!
Go Bucks!

The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
just shows how powerful a buckeyes words are in columbus, even after being a mediocre player for a couple years
I hope the door hit him on the way out. Hard.
Bucktooooooth, heeyaw.
"if irony were made of strawberries, we' d all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
They should bring back Bruce Hooley and put him and Common Man together. They hate each other so the show would be fun to listen too.

Hooley's in Cleveland now. You are welcome to take him back. Really, please.
Had someone at a M*chigan station said the same thing about, say, Archie or Eddie, we'd all be pissed off, too. What he said clearly crossed the line.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
Ricordatti put out this tweet for him to listen to the start of the show at 3 pm. This could be a fun listen.
https://twitter.com/CommonMan971/status/261143813484068865
I hope common man freaking loses it on air and quits, hahahaha
anyone think mike walks out on air? that'd be crazy.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
Not going to lie, I support anyone who takes a stand against what they deem a "unacceptable" act (at least in their eyes) SO GO COMMON MAN!
I may be in the minority here, but if it means less hockey talk, I'm ok with it

Awful Announcing has a good point and I agree: the station was in tough spot, sort of a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation.

I'll miss Torg but he made a mistake and now has to live with the consequences.
The "hope he dies" comment is not politically correct or right in any way although I can't say how many times I have heard people use that phrase without actually meaning for it to happen. I would give DJROSS926 two helmet stickers if I could.
now Desmond and his wife and child can sleep at night without a gun under the pillow. I'm glad Herbie's friend's life is now safe again.

So, I can start listening to The Fan again? Awesome!
Alhan, seems like T-Bone would be a logical choice, but we'll see.
I like Krenzel. Is it possible for him to stay in that position? He gives a nice perspective.
Let him live! Doin Gods work!
He can live, at the Citgo! Bwahaha...
It'll be a fun time whenever Gameday shows up in C-bus again.
I'm stuck in class, what's the substance of the 3pm show?
Nothing worthwhile. Common Man took 5 minutes to say Torg is gone, I'm not going anywhere, I believe in this station... blah, blah, blah.
aaaaan they open with hockey talk. blah.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.

Torg is an idiot. Plain and simple.
I don't understand the Herbie Haters. He's the best broadcaster for ABC/ESPN Sports without a doubt. It's really sad all the sh!t he has to deal with.
