hey i think it would be really neat if someone could create a list of maybe 10 or 15 of the highest ranked recruits coming out of high school on this team right now and maybe a list of where they are now.

Just go look up previous classes on Rivals or 247 or Scout.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
1. Curtis Grant- the bench
2. Braxton Miller- hesiman candidate
3. Noah Spece- backup
4. Adolphus Washington- backup
5. Corey Brown(Pitt)- 3rd corner/NB
6. Rod Smith- 3rd string
7. Tommy Schutt- backup
8. Jake Stoneburner- underused/over hyped starting TE err WR
9. Doran Grant- back up
10. Michael Bennett- co starting DE/DT

I think that list is pretty accurate; I think Grant and Bennet should be 6 and 7 on it though. Pretty sure they were higher rated at their position than the rest of the guys they are behind now. Aside from that, I think it's pretty accurate. Oh and add Norwell, he was a 5* on scout and a top 10 OT on rivals his year I'm pretty sure. He should probably be right after washington, with Grant and Bennett at 6-7
So much for putting much stock into Rivals/Scout profiles wouldnt you say? Not a very good accuracy percentage. Was that your point on this thread?
Well I don't know if the services aren't accurate. I mean aside from C. Grant, the rest are either freshman who aren't going to start anyway likely or are contributing in big ways.
D grant is a sophomore and will be a 2 year starter
Norwell has been a starter since his sophomore year
Smith is behind a senior and the guy who was ranked as the #1 fullback by rivals if I recall in Hyce. Underperformance, but he still has some time.
Stoneburner has been a starter since he came to OSU it seems like; just hasn't been as consistent as we all expected.
Brown has had another up and down career, but he plays a lot for us this year and has 1 more at least
So, from those 10/11, C Grant, Brown, Stoney, and Smith to a certain extent have been less than expected, but 3 of those 4 have a year or more to prove the sites were correct.
Technically he redshirted in 2008 and was behind Ballard in 2009. 2010 was his first year as a starter.

@BuckeyeJason I like the list, I believe its pretty damn accurate. I wouldn't forget about Ol' Simon though, He was a 5-Star recruit.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-John-Simon-67707 has him as a 3\4 and the 36th at his position
http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=3202295 has him as a 5, 5th best DT over all.
Weird there is such a discrepancy. Regardless he's played more like the Rivals rating than the Scout rating this year anyway.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
Dorian Bell - but not on the team
Jamaal Berry - not on the team
Jamie Wood - Bad shoulder
Christian Bryant - Starter
"Anything less than flagrant is just playing grab ass!"
I'd say Simon has played somewhere in between those two rankings. Probably played like a mid 4 star IMO. He is drawing double and triple teams like nobody's business, but he also isn't having near the impact he was hyped up to have this season.
Also find it amusing that scout has him listed as Johnny Simon

I haven't seen many doubles or triples on him lately. Hankins seems to be (deservedly) drawing the most attention. Regardless, I'll save my Simon rants for after the PSU game if he doesn't play a bad one. As critical as I've been on 54 this year I feel pretty good about him this weekend. I think he specifically will have himself a fine afternoon.

Duron Carter - hanging out with the Torg @ the Citgo
@Brewster
I actually agree on quite a bit of your Simon rants, specifically his lack of a true position, therefore hurting his NFL stock. Like you, I don't see Simon being picked in te first 3 or maybe even 4 rounds. Not to say he won't one day be a good pro, but he is a typical tweener who simply overpowers people at the college level (not even doing that tremendously well this year)

For the actual Real Deal I went to 247 to checkout the composite ratings. Which are ratings from the big 4 sites (Rivals, 247, Scout, ESPN) combined to make 1 overall rating. Here is my findings:
The top 5 are all 5 stars across the board. The rest are 4 stars. But this is the actual listings of the exact top 20 players currently on the team. 85% of the 20 will be returning next season & 65% are So or Fr. Which shoes alot of these guys still have plenty of time to show what they have. 35% of these 20 are on the DL which shows that we should be having some totch notch DL heading into the NFL within the next couple years. Also 65% of the 20 are on the defensive side of the ball & 85% of that 65 are returning next year, which means OSU should have a top 5 defense during the 2013-14 & 2014-15 seasons.
Guys like Dorian Bell LB .9892, Jaamal Berry HB .9807, Jamie Wood S .9597, Melvin Fellows DE .9519, & Kenny Hayes DE .9454 would all be on the list but due to transfers or trouble have left the program.
These are the exact top 20 most highly recruited players on our team according to 247 composite ratings.

Yep, that's my thought. That and the lack of burst from point b to c. He hasn't had much problem dispatching one on one's. He's getting around dudes, well rather I should say he's getting away from them. He gets too far upfield and the term I've been screaming to the dismay of a few users here is 'flattening out'. He just can't close the distance between he and the ball carrier. Best extreme example of flattening out is Clay Matthews-no matter where the guy comes from he ALWAYS takes great angles to the ball carrier\QB. Now of course Matthews is an elite athlete and has great quickness, but he also takes near perfect angles in space-and that's where Simon lacks. He takes bad angles AND combines that with a lack of closing speed. Always seems like Simon is a step slow because, well, he is. That's my issue with him.

Wow, good job putting that together. Taking out the players you mentioned had left the team, there's alot of talent on that list and not too many busts (could say C. Grant, but I'll give him one more season before labeling him that). Granted, alot of them are fr/so so not much data to go on

Ya man, hell of a list. Excellent stuff.

@BUCKNUT8 Good work buddy. Go Bucks!
Excellent work BUCKNUT8. Recruiting has to be the toughest part of collegiate athletics. Is he going to get faster? Will extra size slow him down? Is he a good, quality kid? Does he have the work ethic we're going to demand? Can he grasp our systems? The list seems endless. It seems like you take your best guess and roll the dice.
An angry fan...rooting for an angry team...led by angry coaches
Excellent work Bucknut! The list demonstrates how well Coach Tressel recruited while he was here. I think sometimes people forget that his classes were regularly rated near the top.
No probelm everybody. I enjoyed doing the research. was quite fun lol
but anyway that just goes to show you that not only do ratings and rankings not really mean anything, but coaching up a player is also always involved in the success of a college football player. Also some players might only have high ratings because they are built like a future college football player or they dont have the height & weight to play in the bigs. They dont play the competition, so he really cant be all that good or this kid has bad stats because he is a WR & he plays for a team that runs 80% of the time. Its all just based off of guessing and some evaluating at its best. Recruiting is very very hard to predict, only if there was a scientist out there that could figure it all out for us.
