The Ohio State Buckeyes just beat the Indiana Hoosiers by 3 points. Obviously the unsatisfied fanbase responded with "fire him, how pathetic." But, football is not based off of a point differential, unless you're gambling. There are a lot of upset people right now. But, you play the game to win. This team is 7-0...un-de-f*cking-feated. Where were your expectations? What happened to the optimism of last week? Did that just suddenly die? IU was hungry...they wanted this win. They hung around, and got lucky on the Stoner play. Did you expect more than undefeated? Does anybody remember the 2002 season? "Fire Fickell"? At 7-0? Tressel didn't do it...DEAL WITH IT.

If anyone should be fired, it's the replay officials. My goodness, believe it or not, not every review has to go Indiana's way.
Class of 2010.
Your comments are obnoxious. That is all I wish to say about your response. (Directed at OP)
Fans of this team are attached to Buckeye football for more than just the win column. We know what it is to be a Buckeye. We have seen excellence on both sides of the ball. I am not willing to sacrifice one for the other. How can you look down your nose at fans that are concerned with the direction of our team? You honestly think we will be able to score enough points in the playoffs (In the future) to overcome a team like Alabama with our defense? I don't expect to see perfection this year and i know we will likely lose one soon. I do expect to see progression in all facets of the team. I have not seen that on defense.
I am not discrediting IU's Offense but the buckeye defense I knew over the last decade should not be satisfied giving up over 24 points to any team.
I agree that many of us fans sometimes seem to forget that we are undefeated, but letting Indiana hang 49 on OSU is some cause for concern. I think that while a lot of this could be a big overreaction and Indiana did catch a few breaks, regardless whatever our record is we have the right to question our defense after such a poor defensive game. Many of us are more concerned with future games (Wisconsin, Michigan) who has the capability of scoring a lot more points than Indiana.
Nicely put. You can't enjoy our defense by any means, but you can't call for someone's head when you are undefeated and ranked in the top ten during a time when you have a new coaching staff and new schemes and all of that. We need to play better defensively, but getting worked up is crazy - leave that to Urban and company and enjoy the ride.
Maceyko-Why can't you? We wouldn't be undefeated versus some of the more elite teams in football this year. If you are satisfied with being undefeated against an easy schedule and weak big ten then you are short sighted. Game seven should be showing improvement and I haven't seen it in the defense. Every coach and every player should be pulling their weight. Right now it appears we have dead weight to cut. (After the season of course)
I'm obnoxious? About football? This isn't golf, we can make noise. IU is the best offense we have faced all year (and will face). Calm down, 7-0. We will not face another pass heavy offense this year, which is clearly our weakness. 7-0...Tress couldn't do it, and he's tOSU Jesus.
Tressel couldn't do 7-0???
You should be evaluating after every season. I agree with that. Just saying that we are undefeated and the coaching staff we have is what we have. The same as the players. Of course we have some new players coming aboard who are bound to help in the future and if Urban decides we need to make some coaching changes then it will happen. If you noticed even Urban felt like our D was going to struggle against Indiana. He knew going in we would have a problem. He was right. At this point in time though we aren't going to a bowl game and I didn't expect us to be sitting at 7-0 so despite the defensive struggles (and it can be BAD) I say we better enjoy the W. Think - it will be better in the years ahead and how exciting is that???
@PENULT- review Tressel's first season as Ohio State's HC.
Highwire, I was careful in how I worded that for a reason. I said your comments were obnoxious. You may be a decent guy that is operating in a highly emotional state right now. I'll give you time to withdraw from the reptilian brain and position yourself within the human cortex.
I agree with you highwire...IU got lucky on the onside kick and really would not have been there if it wasn't for the 30 yard penalty. The last two touchdowns were really due to indifference and attitude by the defense which coaching is partly responsible for but not a reason to crucify them. Tuesday will be fun for the defense...So if the score was held at 52-34, would all these people still be crying crucify?
We don't have the players for the Meyer/Withers defense, obviously. Guys like Perkins and Marcus need to see more playing time. And the line isn't fast enough. Big Hank, Simon and Goebel are all great, yes, but we need more speed on the line.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
USMC- are you serious?
The thing that bugged me the most was not that we gave up 49 points, but watching our defense give up at the end of the game
Highwire - No. Overall, I want a better defense to feel like this is a real Ohio State football team. thats all. Whatever it takes to get that, lets do it. I am happy to be 7-0 but there is some refinement needed.
At one point Meyer had the freshmen in on the defensive line and a few in the secondary. After they got back within two scores Hankins returned to the line. I didn't see Simon on the those last few drives. Curious.
That's because the game was over. The score doesn't show that, and neither will the media.
I will never be happy with a team that wins via shootout and plays with no effort on defense when we're only up by 10-20 points
USMC bashes me in previous post only to express my same views here...
I'll be happy with a team that is undefeated.
Explain Urban?
don't worry urbanculture, he's just trying REALLY hard to sound intelligent.
And also "That's because the game was over"
The game wasn't over until Brown lucked out with the second onside kick not bouncing right over him as he dove to the ground
That's not a knock to USMC, just pointing out that it's obvious.
Brown lucked out but Stoner didn't?
I would be careful with the Tressel comparisons. There weren't a lot of losses in those 10 years.
That said I remember a certain 4th and 3 against a bad Purdue team. We were nowhere near as good as a Miami that year...
GO BUCKS!
Well when our hands team just stands there while IU recovers the kick, I wouldn't really say they got lucky
He barely swung the ball into oblivion and one of his guys grabbed it...how was philly lucky?
I love JT, but why be careful with the comparisons? Urban slapped him around and thus far has performed much better.
Oh Highwire, this is what Urban was speaking about in regards to his other post...hope this doesn't sound too intelligent for you. (Joking brother)
I'm not quite sure what that was supposed to show me.
Basically, why urban thought I was blasting him on the other post. Sorry that I didn't communicate effectively with you there.
All bucks...just poor communication.
Highwire - tressel won a NC in year two if urban doesn't what will you say? He had more wins in year 1?
My point is not that one is better than the other but simply that comparing records may be misleading.
Let's not forget this is the beginning of a whole new era...there is a mix of 2 totally different styles of football on one team.. Most of the players on the roster were recruited by JT for his style of play, new coach, new staff, new style of play, this is to be expected and I'm giving up hope on our D just yet..it will all come together eventually.. I would rather it get all the tweaks out this year rather than next when they are able to make a run for a BCS bowl bid..
I don't expect to be better than undefeated, and I don't think we need to fire Fickell based on this, but I guess I just don't expect to give up 38 to Nebraska and then give up even more to Indiana. At first glance that does not even remotely compute. Once I start to get rational and think about the injuries and youth that made that outcome possible, it makes more sense, but I suppose I just can't be content with a performance like that. Happy that we're 7-0, very wary of every game now.
HIGHWIRE: congratulations on THE DUMBEST POST EVER!!!
first of all, why is titled "TEARS"?
secondly, you're a little sensitive & defensive (no pun intended)...
I'm embarassed to be a Buckeye fan. Indiana just hung half a hundred on us....INDI-FREAKING-ANA!
Wake up! Fickell needs to go! Not only is this defense pathetic, but player development (i.e. linebacker) is vastly underwhelming
