I am trying to figure out if our play is a positive or a negative in regard to our recruiting at the moment. I am somewhat pessimistic by nature I have to think that our play isn't conducive to landing unsaid big name recruits. Granted, with poor play of the current players it opens the door for the potential of early play but how much of our troubles are on the coaches and how much of it is on the players? If Meyer points his fingers at the players then you risk breaking the spirit of those players. If Meyer points the fingers at the coaches then would you want to play for someone that can't coach you up and make you a winner and become a top rated draft pick? Which side are you on?

If I were 18 I'd still want to go to OSU as a 4-5 star guy because I'd probably think I could help fix the problem. Now if this continued for another couple years, I'd be scared off because obviously by that time it would be a developmental/coaching problem and possibly keep me from reaching my goal of playing in the NFL.
If I'm a LBer after seeing the LB play at OSU I'm coming and trying to start ASAP.
I'm thinking the same thing that I'm thinking right now: if this team is 7-0 with a sieve for a defense, I want to go there and be a part of repeated NC's once we shore up the defense. 4-5 star recruits tend not to lack for confidence, so I'm sure they think they'll be part of the solution and the start of the Buckeye dynasty. Yes please.
When told OSU set school record for 50+ games this year, UFM said "That's good. We're gonna break that next year."
Do I also read Eleven Warriors? Because If I do...maybe not. This is a critical fan base if you've been around here the last couple days haha
I am reading you Buckeye06. I'd rather play for a team that has a passionate fanbase than for a team that has fans that just take what they are given. That's me though. I want honesty, not someone who says, "Hey good effort, not everybody is a winner. Here is a ribbon." I believe the criticism is deserved and has not been overly harsh. It isn't like being an Oregon fan and complaining because you only scored 38 points.
Urban has shown quite often this year, that if you buy in, you can get on the field. He's also shown that he can quickly put a program back on track. I'd have to believe tOSU becomes a top 5 for nearly everyone in the future.
An angry fan...rooting for an angry team...led by angry coaches
I mean I was making a joke. I think the D needs a lot of work, but I think the critical attacks on Fickell and Vrabel are unwarranted when we have like 5 linebackers who know how to play at all...
I think we need to build for next year, so I just want improvement
If I were a defensive recruit right now, (I hate to admit it but) I would not want to play for the Buckeyes. I'd want to be part of a defensive juggernaut. I understand the thought process of "look how weak the defense is, I can come in and make it better right away", but I'm not sure that's how guys look at it. I'd want to play for a proven defensive unit.
Think of it in terms of recruiting in general. For example, guys don't necessarily say "oh look Small College X. They have a bad team, but I want to go there to make it better". No they say "Look at Mount Union's winning tradition... I want to go there".
I can see both sides of this argument... But if I'm a recruit that knows anything about our head coach, his first tenant of winning is 1. Play great defense. It's not 'play acceptable defense and hope the offense scores enough points to win.' He is only going to go after players that he either 1. believes are already great, or 2. believes his coaches can make great given the recruits athletic talent. Winning trumps all doubts with most recruits. A winning program plus an opportunity for early playing time should lure great recruits.
I'd see it as a chance to play early and Urban being the Coach is just icing on the cake.
"Did you push yourself to be great today? If you didn't do it you lost a day. We ain't got many days to lose. We're going to push your a$$ like its never been pushed because what you've got in you were going to find out" UFM
DBIT if that were the case then your argument is contradictory. Tradition by its very nature is more than one year. So if you decided based on tradition then you wouldn't look at just Ohio State's defense this year.
This is all very hypothetical and over generalizing. Each recruit is a different person who has different opinions, goals, and wants.
I also think that, even though they are 18 year olds, they can be more rational and logical than that. And even if they aren't, and I couldnt blame them they're young, there are way too many good things to overlook.
Urban Meyer has 2 NC in the last 5 years, has had some great defenses, and coached up a lot of current NFL players on both sides of the ball. Fickell coached Hawk and Laurinitas. Vrabel was an incredible NFL player, and regardless of his coaching ability, a college player could learn a lot of valuable lessons from his experience. Plus, I recall reading a few interviews from recruits after FNL and camps that commented on how great Vrabel was at coaching, and how they couldn't believe how much they learned from him in just a day or two.
Add to that the great D-line hauls so far under Meyer, and the DBs in this class aren't too shabby so far either, and Meyer's track record...you really think you're going to change your mind based on one game? Come on.
I think the answer is obvious to everyone.
Why would you want to come here?
We have a head coach with no experience. Our defenive coaches have zero ability and have accomplished zip, zero, nada at any level of football. Your surrounding cast of players are inferior, unmotivated, and basically lazy. The program has close to no tradition and quite frankly barely wins a game every season.
The only thing that might lure you to play defense for the scarlet and gray would be the supportive, positive, and intelligent fan base.
im a member of this site, so if it was me, yes clearly osu is where i would go. if i wasnt such a homer id prolly go to usc, bama, or lsu..... they seem to get the most ppl to the next level
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
