I swear I was trying to post that I would like to see Rod Smith tote the rock before Hyde had to leave. I love the kid and I hope he can continue with more runs like this throughout the season.

Agreed. I still think he is the most gifted of all the backs..
There is the Rod that we have been waiting 3 yrs to see
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
R.Smith looked good tonight let's hope tonight was the beginning of his career taking off, and the beginning of the start of making J.Smith flip:)
Great run by Smith there! Was really happy for him. Had to feel great on a night like this against this type of opponent!
He also got a shot with the kick returns. Damn! He's getting involved in everything.
@ Unclebuck
And I'd actually like to see him return more. He has more burst than Devin Smith has -- Devin seems like he's so indecisive with his cuts on kick returns.
I'm sure Rod is feeling pretty good right now, wonder if he is trying to give his brother some second thoughts about flipping? Wishful thinking I know but crazier things have happened.
I think he should start...and I'm not a Smith fanboy...he's just better than the rest of our backs.
great run by Hot Rod, but I think I enjoyed the fact that he was so visibly happy about it...jumping up & down, it was like his coming out moment as a Buckeye

p.s. I wish they'd just give Rod Smith more carries!

I hate to gloat (well maybe I dont) but I told you so about 2 weeks ago lol. http://www.elevenwarriors.com/blogs/sec-buckeye/rod-smith-is-the-next-gr...

He's in a tough position because of the guys in front of him. I'd love to see more of him as well but Hyde is playing pretty well and I don't like to see players come out when they start getting hot. If he sticks it out, he will have a chance to tote the rock before he's done here.
Smith has the ability to make defenders miss, something that's rare from hall or hyde. all three are great backs though
I agree that he showed a lot more wiggle than El Guapo on that run and perhaps has the playmaking "it" factor King Urban is looking for. He's got a large frame too--the guy came in for quite a few goal-line carries in the Cal game while Hyde was injured. I dare say, he may be the perfect blend of size and athleticism Meyer was always looking for in a tailback... Just saying :/

i def wouldnt mind seeing more smith... but guys, el guapo just put up 140 and 4 and last week he closed the game out... i wanna see smith get more touches but hyde has been BALLIN
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
That was a great run he had
Wherever you are, there you be!
Had to leave the bar midway through the 4th and missed the Smith run.
Anyone know where i can watch it; sounds like a good one
Edit: Found it at the end of this gem

I feel like they should have kept Hyde out after he went down injured and let Rod take the rest of 4th. He looked impressive! I trust in Urban though.
Gloat on SECBUCKEYE, for the amount Rod has been dumped on, those that promote him deserve reckoning for staying positive.
Anyone notice how high he was carrying that ball on the score, I think he learned his lesson about those dropsies.
BEST RB EVER!!
lol, no seriously that was a hell of a run, I like the way he looked last night.
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
I love smith and hyde and dunn. I wonder sometimes if hall is our fourth best back. I think any of the four can get 100 yds but what matters is 3rd and 3 and goaline.
Offense has been better when hall is out. Look it up.
I'm pulling for this kid, especially after what came out about Urban basically offering him walking papers back in January. We all have to remember these guys are 18-23 yrs old, and have the pressure of the world on their shoulders. Rod's really stepped it up, and the way he ran on his 33 yard TD, he's trying to show all the doubters what he can do. Keep it up!
Loved it. Huge pressure and expectations coming in. Got Eddie George comparisons because of his size and speed. He's bought in and it's starting to pay off for him. Congrats Rod! Buckeye Nation has your back
I think the key is splitting the carries between Hyde and Smith more. They are both powerful runners and when Smith came in totally fresh against a tired Nebraska offense he just ran right through about 4 tackles. Keep them both fresh and then down the stretch no one will be able to stop them.
Smith hit the hole better than Hyde did on average, but the sample size wasn't great for comparison. I'd like to see the distribution go some thing like 20-23 for Hyde, 12-15 for Smith
Yeah, that TD run by Smith was great and made me think of Eddie George just a little bit. He's got a long way to go to legitimately be compared to #27, but he's on the right track.
If he continues to capitalize on his opportunities like he did last night, it will be hard to keep him off the field. It was an impressive effort on that carry. Smith is the total package when his head is on straight. I think he gets more reps if he stays on track.

I was surprised with his KO return as well because when I saw him and Dunn back there I thought it was odd. But once Smith caught the ball he didn't hesitate and he almost broke free for a big run.
Buck I.8 - If it was Tresselball, that distribution would be great. But since it's Urbanball, here's what I'd like to see...
Braxton: 10-15 rushes
Hyde: 12-17 rushes
Smith: 5-10 rushes
Philly Brown: 2-3 rushes
And when Hall comes back, I'd love to see him get some significant time as well. I think the triple option with Hyde and Hall flanking Braxton would be amazing to see.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
THEBADOWL,
I want to see Braxtons up to more like 14-18 especially while Jordan Hall is out. The game turned around on his 73 yard run and while we don't want him to get hurt he is the best player on the field and needs to move the ball.
I agree, but I do think it should be limited to an extent. No need to risk injury to him. His YPC last night was insane (11.6 despite two sacks). There's no getting around the fact that he is, and should be, our primary rushing threat. But the more carries Hyde gets, the higher probability of a big play for either Hyde or Braxton, since the defense can't key in on both on every play.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
Im probably crazy, but im just not big on hall as an every down between the tackles back, he goes down on first contact just about every time, and it seems the only good gains he has had have come when the QB draws all the defenders and gives him a perfect pitch with 5-10 yrds of space to run in to. Id much rather see Hyde/Smith run consistently as they can take contact and break tackles and thats what you need from your HB to have a consistent running game.
Well i like college and i like football...and im gunna keep doin em both cause they make me feel good!!!
Hall isn't supposed to be an every down, between the tackles back. He's a speed/space threat, but you always have to have balance. He's not bad between the tackles, but you have to run him there sometimes, so that the defense has to defend it. Then you get bigger plays outside, or bigger screen passes. It's all about the constraint plays.
When you have both Hall and Hyde in, you don't need Hall to run between the tackles, and you'll see more of Hall being used like he's supposed to be.
I can't decide who to be happier for when they get a TD, Z Boren or R Smith. Love those guys!
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
BUCKEYEEDDIE27,
I agree your happy for both of them in different ways. Rod for sticking with the program and Zach for no longer being an extra blocker.
Rod showed reallly nice vision, speed, and elusiveness on that run. Granted, the huskers had to be pretty tired at that point, but the whole run just looked very fluid and natural to him. It looked like a guy who wasn't straight off the bench, but a seasoned runner.
Rod Smith ran the TD with passion, aggression and pure hate for numbered grass.
I was very happ for Smith. He has been heavily criticized during his time at Ohio State. I hope he gets some more carries, but he is going to be behind El Guapo and Hall.
Help is on the way.
Smith should have been thrown out of the game for running up the score and not taking a knee at the 1/10" line. I can't believe this guy!?
^ I keed I keed!!!
I like Rod Smith. I hope he continues to get opportunities and I hope he takes advantage of them. He bobbled two kick returns I saw in the South endzone (haven't watch the telecast to see what happened on the other end of the field). His TD was very impressive and exemplified making the most of an opportunity, but he only got one other run (that I saw) and Hyde came back into the game right after that even though he was clearly limping. I have to believe there is something going on with Smith that the staff is not willing to lean on him more. Perhaps those bobbled kickoffs made them gunshy...idk.
I will say I'm getting tired of his promise -- I want to see his production...consistent and game-long.
"The revolution will be televised."
I know Urban loves Jordan Hall, and we're going to utilize him the best he can his senior year... But do you think Urban might be working toward an unstoppable tandem for next year? Instead of the overused 'Lightning and Thunder' reference for quick and power running back, a 'Thunder Uncontrolled' backfield with Carlos and Rod alternating to have a fresh power back the majority of the time, with Rod's added elusiveness and Carlos' power through the line? At the post-game last night, he mentioned how we are a power running team like he's never had before... Makes the idea of 3 1000 yard rushers seem possible... obviously B-Miller will lead the way :)
