Rivals$--Saxton takes in Buckeye victory '14 OH CB Alonzo Saxton

  • Not much...enjoyed the victory and crowd. Did not get to meet with coaches due to late arrival.

Rivals$--Five-star visit '14 GA LB Raekwon McMillan

  • Following a good visit to Clemson, Raekwon says his leaders in order are Ohio State, Clemson, Georgia, USC and Alabama. He says he just has a good feeling with tOSU.

Thaddeus Snodgrass (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield) has seen it before. Billy Price (Youngstown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) has grown accustomed to it as well. But Ohio State’s 29-22 overtime win over Purdue was special to each one as they took in Saturday’s game on unofficial visits.

Snodgrass has an offer from the Buckeyes. Price will be on the Ohio State roster next fall. Both left smiling after the team’s latest escape from certain defeat.

“I’d rank it a 12 out of 10 because they kept fighting back and kept that fire to bring them back,” said Snodgrass, who was also on hand for Ohio State’s 35-28 win over Cal.

Kenny Guiton has a fan in one of the biggest recruits from the Class of 2015. Eric Glover-Williams (Canton, Ohio/McKinley) already has interest from Alabama, Auburn, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Oregon, Syracuse and UCLA, but nothing wowed him like Guiton’s performance on Saturday.

Glover-Williams was on hand at The Horseshoe to watch Guiton and Ohio State pull out a 29-22 overtime win against Purdue and soaked up every second of the heroics.

“I think he stepped up and did what he was able to do to give his team the win,” Glover-Williams said. “He came in during the clutch when his team needed him and made big plays.”

cont...

Almost immediately after Ohio State’s 29-22 overtime win over Purdue on Saturday, Cornelius "Corn" Elder (Nashville, Tenn./The Ensworth School) went to his official Twitter account and showed the Buckeyes some love.

Who could blame the ESPN 300 running back -- he’s ranked 238th overall -- after the way Ohio State came back to win?

When the Buckeyes drove 61 yards with 47 seconds left and converted a two-point conversion to send things into overtime, it was hard not to marvel at the 105,290 in attendance and cheer a little bit from his sideline seat at The Horseshoe.

cont...

Dante Booker (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) isn’t hard to find on the football field. He’s the ESPN Watch List junior making seemingly every tackle.

Whether it’s sacking the quarterback, grabbing an interception or virtually taking over the game defensively, Booker is in the backfield almost as much as the opposition’s running back.

But even he can be wowed.

cont...

Consider Marcus Whitfield (Massillon, Ohio/Washington) a believer.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound junior no longer sits on the edge of his seat -- well, at least he says he doesn’t -- when an Ohio State football game is in peril.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s a 1-point win over Michigan State, a 3-point victory over Indiana or an overtime thriller against Purdue, Whitfield knows the eventual outcome and enjoys the win.

cont...

The Ohio State-Michigan game sits a little over a month away, but the Buckeyes stoked the fire just a little bit when they offered Gareon Conley (Massillon, Ohio/Washington).

The ESPN 150 cornerback -- he’s ranked 61st in the nation and ninth at his position -- has been a Wolverines commit since March 10, but that didn’t stop Ohio State from offering.

Everybody acts like Timmons was the back up plan for Quick..... I think he was the back up plan for Elder, and it's looking like he will be a buckeye.

If we could somehow manage to snag Mike Mitchell (2013), Vonn Bell (2013), Raekwon McMillan (2014), and Dante Booker (2014) on top of the young defensive players we already have, I think we have a top 5 defense in 2 years, regardless of the way our defense has been playing this year.

Just think about it:
DL - Spence, Washington, Bosa and Shutt (throw in Bennett and Pittman as well)
LB - Shazier, Mitchell, McMillan, Booker, Williams, Perry
DB - Roby (assuming he stays 1-2 more years), Grant, Woodard, Burrows, Bell

^And that's just mentioning the players I think will be standouts. That to me is an easy top 5 defense talent-wise, regardless of scheme.

Rob Foster will take an official to Ohio State. According to his tweets, one can assume it will be for Illinois.

Edit: not clamoring for anything, I don't think there's anything there. But anytime a high profile recruit gets on campus, it's news.

*yawn* Alabama or Pitt for Foster. He's just sight seeing, nothing to report there. Pretty sure OSU pulled his offer anyhow.

UrbzRenewal on 21 Oct 2012 - 8:29pm #

I agree, but why would Ohio State let him OV on their dime if his offer was pulled? Something doesn't make sense. I would imagine there's some sort of interest there, or they'd just pull a Derrick Green and tell him they've stopped recruiting him.

GeneStarwind's picture
GeneStarwind Mod on 21 Oct 2012 - 8:31pm #

Robert Foster doesn't make any sense himself, just saying. I shouldn't say pulled his offer, more like, I don't think it's on the table, or committable. We are doing great with Corn Elder. I'd rather get that kid cuz he can play basketball too.

I guess we'll see! I really have no idea when it comes to Foster, and I'm not sure anyone else does either. He doesn't make sense and he rarely talks to the media.

I would love to get Corn Elder to commit. I'm glad he enjoyed his visit on Saturday. Honestly, that drama in the last couple minutes of regulation and the overtime was very exciting to watch. I'm sure as a recruit watching it and seeing and hearing the crowd go wild (even though thousands left too early when they thought it was all over after Guiton threw the pick).

Wow, Elder's leader is now OSU? Looking like this one is ours to lose. Does that mean that we'd only take one of Quick/Gibson or do people think we'd take all of Gibson, Elder and Quick?

Also, love still being McMillan's leader dsepite a good visit to Clemson. Also shows you how big our lead was when Clemson jumps UGA but not us. I know he said he wants to commit at an AA game or on signing day 2014 but I hop Urban can get him to commit earlier and be a leader for the class.

I'd take Elder over Timmons. Watched him last week and he was impressive. With that said, I would prefer 2 spots going to prototypical WRs like Quick and Stevens....but I won't complain if Elder commits.

Anyone else excited to see that Raekwon went from having us tied with UGA to now having us #1 and UGA #3?

Before all is said and done, Foster's recruitment may make Davonte Neal's from last year look mundane. Kid is a character, whether you like him or not. Urbzenewal has a good point, though: if we were totally out of the running, I think we'd let him know before he visited.

I think Meyer wants to get him on campus again, see if there's anything there in the way of attraction, and either go hard for him or let him go his way. I'm beginning to love this about Meyer's style of recruitment. He doesn't mind forcing a kid's hand to keep us from getting jilted.

We just offered Gareon Conley? He's a CB and a UM commit. Interesting, considering we already have Woodard and Burrows coming in @ CB. Not sure what the thought is with this offer.

^To make Hoke choke on his Cornpops? Haha I don't know either. Guess you can never have too many good DBs? Gotta wonder if he contacted OSU or if we contacted him, otherwise wouldn't you think any conversation they'd been having had long died since his March commitment?

bucknut8's picture

Staff on Bucknuts & the ppl at scoutingohio are really high on Conley. They said UM might of got a great CB out of it before Conley started blowing up.

Everyone & I believed Burrows would come into to OSU as a Safety, but then Bell fell into the mix & then everyone & I started believing that Burrows was coming to OSU as a CB since we had a great shot at landing Bell for a Safety spot.

Well maybe this CB offer (Conley) shows that Meyer & the staff feel they will not land Bell, forcing Burrows to move to Safety & they want to bring in another CB in Conley. Take it FWIW.

Tenn,

The article was saying that he kind of does it all and isn't really tied to any specific position.  Maybe urban seees something else, or sees Cam Burrows going to Safety and putting Conley in CB.

@TennBuckeye19 -Conley is a kid who is starting to come into his own this year and is having a really good year. As for Burrows from the scouts takes ive seen and film is that they all agree he can either be a really good corner or an AA type safety. Its also easier to turn a CB into a safety than vice versa. When I see Burrows I see a kid from my area - Donte Whitner who was a great DB for tOSU and the type of size speed athlete we havent had back there since him with all due respect to Kurt C as he was good too but not Whitner good.

I wouldnt take the Conley offer as this staff saying they dont think they can land Bell as Urban is a coach that believes he can land anyone I would say Urban is covering his bases leaving no stone/recruit unturned. Also Gene and I have agreed that Tenn is looking less likely for Bell bc Dooley prob wont be there next year and it hasnt been made completely public yet but their clubhouse is a divided mess right now. Also Bell has shown this year that he has the ability to be a pure CB so dont be surprised to see that happen.

As for Raekwon def relieved to see Clem move ahead of UGA after he stated UGA was his best college visit ever just shows how good our coach is as a recruiter cause it seems our lead was larger than anyone realized. If Urban can somehow manage to covince this kid to commit earlier than he planned to tOSU then watch out - think Shane Morris/Brewster on steroids!

Forgot to add that Andrew Williams tape, if his size is correct, is impressive that looks like a kid that will blow up he can absolutely glide at that size with quick twitch movement to boot def love that offer

Is Elder a guy who the staff would let commit at anytime or would they put him on hold for someone like Quick, Gibson, Stevens, North, etc.?
