Thinking out loud here. And I realize it's a long way off, but since we have no bowl this season, we all have been looking forward to 2013 and what it might become. Seeing the B1G is WAY down now, assuming they get crushed in their 2012 bowls (like other thread predicts) and they have a terrible Out of Conference showing to start 2013, does this negatively impact our chances at a run at the last BCS title? If more than 2 teams run the table next year plus OSU, wouldn't we be left behind due to our weak schedule and terrible league? Or even worse, jumped by a 1-loss SEC team, because of the computer rankings and sos.
Thoughts?

competing for 4 spots is always easier than 2, right?
I thought playoff wasn't coming until 2014?

Regarding the playoffs: Better late than never.
We can still fill the '13 vandy void with a tougher out of conference opponent i.e. West By God.

Nova, I think he is saying that he would prefer they start next year to eliminate the chances of osu being shut out, though I think an elligible 13-0 OSU team won't get overlooked.
^^Correct CBUS.
^^^ this dude has the same avi as me : /
Does playoff in 2014 mean next season (Jan 2014) or the year after next (Jan 2015)?
I believe Jan 2015
A 1-loss SEC team would not jump an undefeated team from any BCS conference, maybe excluding the Big East. Still, it's pretty rare for more than 2 BCS teams to finish undefeated, even though it's looking pretty likely this year. Last time it happened was 2009 with Alabama, Texas and Cincinnati, though I think by Cincinnati's bowl performance, the BCS obviously got it right that time. The other time was obviously 2004 with USC, Oklahoma and Auburn, with Auburn being left out. Seems really weird to even think about an SEC team being left out, but that was before their title winning streak started. I wouldn't be too worried about OSU being left out.
Playoffs will begin after next season. So 2013 will be BCS, with Bowls being played in Jan 2014. The 2014 season will end with a 4-team playoff. Sorry for confusion.
@VHX7- While uncommon, it could very well happen. What IF we happened to take our bowl-ban last year (still not happy about that decision)? You could have up to 5 no-loss teams this year. And based on our sos, we would be last man in line (assuming all 5 win out). And that's not even counting Louisville...
If we finish undefeated, that will almost guarantee us a top 5 finish this year. With a top 5 finish and pretty much the entire team coming back, that would be a top 5 start. If we take care of business and do what we should do next year, we should have no problem getting in. We are up to 6 this year and I think we would all agree that we will play much better in year two of Urban than we are right now. If we dominate how we should, we won't be getting left out.

I am not that worried about it. Honestly I can't see us being left out of the NC game if we run the table next year. But lets try and get through this year 12-0 before we worry about doing it again next year. It is very hard to win all your games. If we get through all our games next year and the BIG championship game I think we are in.
Yes there are two Buckeyes in Ann arbor on this site!
Like I said, a LOT of 'what-if's'. But Oregon started #5 preseason and is #2 in both polls. Yet they are #4 in BCS. And I don't see their schedule allowing them to jump either KSU or ND. Who both are ranked lower in the polls but higher in BCS. They could 'handle their business' and be the second best team out there, yet not playing in BCS.
I hope your theory is right about the 1-loss teams. I would like nothing better than to see Bama lose to LSU this weekend and KSU and Oregon play for title. That would, at least, be a fun game to watch.
I think we may be jumping the gun a bit here.
Bama seems to be hanging in at #1 with a weaker schedule than other undefeated teams.
If the Bucks go undefeated or even 1 - 2 loss this season and undefeated next season the voters, computers & media will show them some love
O H I O is the Buckeye State
The only teams that will possibly be ranked next year on OSU's schedule are Cal, Wiscy, and Michigan. Outside chances with Northwestern and Iowa because they are early in the year. I think not playing Sparty or Nebraska will hurt a little. The perception of the B1G isn't going to change anytime soon, so if there are multiple undefeated teams at the end of the year, it might come down to who OSU plays in the BIGCG.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!

Playoffs are actually coming about 50 years too late.

If we are ranked highly to begin the year I dont think it will make a difference what our other opponents are ranked. As long as we show up in each game and dont embarass ourselves we can at least wait for a higher ranked opponent to lose/choke.
