Dr. Z Unsung Man in the Trenches of the Week
"Alex Boone, guard, San Francisco. OK, so holding the Bills' interior defensive line without a sniff all of a sudden is not such a big accomplishment. But Boone, the fourth-year college free agent from Ohio State with the big wingspan, played every snap for the Niners Sunday and allowed no quarterback hits or sacks on Alex Smith or Colin Kaepernick -- and he helped pave the way for one of the great offensive days in 49ers history, a 621-yard monster. He's strong enough to have neutralized Marcell Dareus when they competed, and even though his 6-foot-8, 300-pound frame is not a classic guard body, he's been an upgrade at a spot that frustrated San Francisco the last couple of years."

Glad to see he is making good. I had heard he was turning his life around after the high-profile arrest.

Kudos to Booner for getting it together. Makes a guy wonder how much potential was masked by Natty Ice and Jim Bollman's coaching(or lack thereof).
And better yet turning it around at Lecharles Bentley's O-line Academy. The circle of Buckeye life continues.
If anyone should comment about this subject, Alex Boones Liver would be first on my list as a knowledgeable contributor.

I watched a Niner game earlier in the season - I think against Detroit - and because I'm not a big NFL guy, I focused almost entirely on Boone. Well, the guy lined up against Boone did absolutely nothing the whole time I was watching. Boone was eating him up and Detroit is supposed to have good DTs, right?
Stories like this make me realize how much I really dislike Bollman. I remember reading a story about Nick Mangold where the Jets O-line coach was interviewed and he was raving about Nick and his willingness to learn, work on technique and footwork and whatnot because he basically had to be completely re-programmed from what he had learned while he was here.
@Fido I remember watching that game and seeing Boone get mentioned several times by the casters for opening huge holes. He was just blowing people off the line. Glad to see another Buckeye making waves in the league.
