I know this is a long shot but bear with me. What happens if Northwestern runs the table? I know the chances of this happening are close to none..but with the TERRIBLE perception of the BIG this year, would they make it to the National Championship game? Lets say there is only 1 or no other underfeated teams out there, wouldnt they have to be in?

The thought of Northwestern going undefeated literally made me LOL!
I think so, yes. They're still in the B1G which even though it's a down year is still tough to run the table in. I'd also love to see it happen.. well maybe not because they would most likely get crushed but I have a lotta respect for that team and their coach.
The short answer is no. With the conference being what it is, an undefeated Northwestern would more than likely get passed over by a one loss team from another BCS conference.
Dont get me wrong the thought of an undefeated northwestern is funny..but not all THAT crazy..the BIG is terrible..no reason to think it isnt possible
Well i like college and i like football...and im gunna keep doin em both cause they make me feel good!!!
I kind of want them to run the table and win the BIG...
If we can't, why not them?
I'd love to see them do it. Fitzgerald is a helluva coach, just an amusing thought. Their schedule being filled with BCS teams in non-conference might actually get them in, even with the perception that the B1G is horrible. It would definetly be interesting.
Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't it take until after week 5 for them to even break the top 25? My guess based on that (faulty or not) would be it would have to take only 1 1 or no loss teams in the sec,big12,or pac 12, and top tier ACC (thats a relative term). But I guess you never know what could happen, but I would be shocked.
The idea that this is a reasonable discussion is terribly sad.
They did the win the Big Ten the Darnell Autry year and it didn't cripple the long term perception of the league.
It took 5 weeks for Northwestern to get ranked but that's a testament to why we shouldn't have per-season rankings.... And thy shouldn't be released too after week 4 at least.
What happens when OU runs the table in the MAC??
-The Aristocrats!
Northwestern won't go on to the national championship game but lets be honest here. Do you really wanna see Northwestern get crushed by some SEC team? I honestly fear at the thought of that happening to them if they did play the likes of LSU, Flordia or UGA.... Plus SEC fans will trash talk a school who has a the best education out of any bowl bound SEC team and I wouldn't want that for the Cats.
Chances Northwestern wins a game =.50
Since each win is mutually exclusive, chances northwestern wins the remaining 7 games and goes undefeated = (.50)^7= .0078 or .78125%
That's a very slim chance they go undefeated given their road schedule so I wouldn't count on it!
Ohio State's band SLAUGHTERED Michigan's band. If this were a football game, it would have been Florida State vs. Savannah State. - SB Nation following OSU vs. UM 2012
@Gobucks If PSU wins out, that Week 1 win for OU will look a lot better on their resume. I just don't see them getting an at large BCS spot because they haven't been in the national spotlight like Boise, TCU, Utah, etc earned prior to their BCS appearances.
Hopefully, they don't get the Little Ceasar's (or whatever it is this year) bowl in Detroit like the #1 MAC normally goes to vs the #6 (or so) B1G team
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!

Ohio hopefully plays the same team in a bowl game that they faced and defeated from up north in the NCAA b-ball tourney. I'd say the outcome would be the same.
The stars would have to align just right for it to
O H I O is the Buckeye State
Northwestern or Purdue, give the little guys a chance this year.
