New Open Scholarships

With the recent departures of TY Williams and Jamie Wood (and maybe Southward), does that open up new spots for the class of 2013?  What receivers will we be able to add? My guess is we get Gibson, Tony Stevens, and possibly Ryan Timmons thanks to the new spots.

Jamie Wood graduates in December, so I'm not sure that opens one. The estimated number was 22 (with expected attrition; now happening attrition), which doesn't change with the departures. If rumors are true and Southward is kicked off/leaving the team, that moves us closer to the 22 estimate. I think we get Stevens and Gibson, perhaps Quick if Strong leaves Louisville. I think there are DBs/LBs/OLs that they'd rather have commit before Timmons or Zach Yousey out of Harvest Prep. Those two seem to be backup plans at WR.

Academically yes, Wood will graduate, but he still has RSJr. football eligibility IIRC...so it would mean an extra scholarship, right? Maybe I'm just completely wrong...

I'm not sure. I believe it may just move us towards the 22 estimate.

I think we now have 20 open schollies, getting us closer to the 22 mark, if both, obviously speculation, fields at the end of the year and southward currently are gone that would put us at the 22 mark.  Then you never know with people like Hank or Roby leaving for NFL.

Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens

Unless they are used to take players like Quick, DJ, Bell, or another big time prospect, I hope we don't go over 22. Anything more than that should be saved for 2014, the guys Urban has had 2 years to build relationships with.

Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite

I'll guess we get to 23. We are at 20 now. If the rumors of another WR are true, 21. Two more easily with going pro early or other reasons. Might be more.

I agree wiht TRIV in thinking that people need to remember how small 2014's class is.  I believe as of right now it is around 14 open scholarships.  Unless it comes down to guys you can't say no to I don't see the class climbing much higher than 21 regardless of how many openings there are after the season.

Yeah we have something like 15 juniors this year, so with the talnt in that class and the number of stud prospects were in on, we need to save up a few scholarships unless we can get a cant miss guy for 2013

Right now we have 76 scholarship players, with 15 seniors on the squad.  We also have 13 juniors on the roster, one of which is Big Hank.  I'm not sure who would be a candidate for attrition, as the last 2 seem to have come out of nowhere.  We could take 21 players right now for the 2013 class, but I'm guessing we lose 2-3 more players after the season is over, and we will bank those scholarships for 2014, as I'm sure we'll have some attrition, but there aren't many players, it would seem, that'll be leaving for the NFL draft early.  I'll say we finish up our recruiting with Mike Mitchell, Tony Stevens, Shelton Gibson, Chris Worley and Donovan Munger.  If we lose 3 players after the season, and add 22, we'll be at 80 players entering the 2013-14 season.  After that we lose 13 which will give us 15 open spots before players leave so it'll be interesting to see how it all shakes out in regards to having enough open spots due to all of the talent in the 2014 class.

I think we take guys that are cant miss (Qucik, Foster, Stevens, Gibson, Mitchell, McMillan, Trey Johnson, Johnson (OL), Munger, Bell, North). I also believe we need to get Worley in this class as it could be key to helping landing '14 stud Lattimore.

we have 17 now, I think we realisticly land Gibson, Mitchell, Munger, Worley & possibly Trey Johnson. Im looking for this class to be 21 or 22. No more than that as I also agree that we should be trying to save scholarships & banking them for 2014 as we will have a small senior class next year & Meyer has really built some relationships with some top '14 targets & that class could really big an amazing class especially if we can push that class to be around 16-18 commits.

Bucknuts you may have missed my post but I believe Timmons is one of those cant miss prospects. Im Jist kidding Man.....  But seriously Meyers thinks more of this kid than I believe most of you know.  I think everything he told him is coming about and he has developed a relationship with this kid and everything is strategic at this point and has nothing to do with plan a and plan b. in the mean time more offers and inquiries keep rolling in for him but the kid has kept a good head on his shoulders and knows what he wants and is very confident about what he can do and bring and wants to be a Buckeye.

WAYCRACKEN I hope that Timmons gets his offer from Urban. I never would have even heard of the kid if it wasn't for your persistence. Looks like a player to me.

@spoonerbuck - I hope your right. But I think Lattimore knows he wants to be a Buckeye, but I think he is finally starting to get that national attention he well deserves. Dont be suprised if he listens to some of those top schools, but in his heart, Id imagine is all Buckeye.

@waycracken - I forgot to mention Timmons & Elder, so my bad. lol I really want Timmons in this class, but I think if we banked his scholarship, we could very well turn around & use it on a guy like Snodgrass, Lattimore, or Artavis Scott or another top notch playmaker or another Offensive Tackle.

@ cajunbuckeye. if waycracken hadnt been so persistent about ryan timmons, i would have done some chiming in, but there is nothing more i can add to what waycracken says. other than i have seen ryan timmons play several times this year, and he is a ton of fun to watch, and everytime he gets his hands on the ball, he keeps the ball in his hands and usually scores. i dont know what else i can say that waycracken hasnt.i hope he is a buckeye, but if urban has a better player(s) in mind, then hey so be it.

These are some of the guy's I'm seeing as can't miss: WR: Stevens, Foster, Quick, Gibson, and North (since Urban's missing playmakers, I'd take at least 3 if possible, top 3 being in order North, Stevens, and Foster because I like the big, deep threat to compliment our current roster). The only OL prospect is obviously Dorian Johnson, but given our lack of depth and his build being perfect for our offense, I'd probably take 2 WRs plus him over 3WRs w/o him (unless their my top 2 WRs)... DB: to me, Vonn Bell is the only 'can't miss'... I like what Worley brings, but I don't think he's better than Bell and I don't think signing him would bring Lattimore (If we won't offer Demetrious Knox's friend to get him, Urban won't offer Worley to get Lattimore). He's a plan B if I've seen one (plus appeases the 'Glenville pipeline', but seriously, where are they gonna go, Pitt?). LB: Mike Mitchell should be our main focus, with Trey Johnson and Daniel McMillian being a close second. Mitchell was on the verge of committing. Reports are stating Auburn should be worried that Johnson is looking elsewhere, while McMillian is stating officials to other schools are 'free trips.' But that doesn't mean a free trip to see a Florida legend can't pull away from a Florida current... DL: I think Donovan Munger is only in if all other things go terribly wrong, with Stevens decommiting and numerous other commits visiting (especially Jason Hatcher, who if we're looking for DL is a way better option). He shouldn't have waiting and I feel like Tracy Sprinkle took his spot (though well deserved). ATH (this is for you Waycraken): I like both Corn Elder and Ryan Timmons... and if we land either of these guys I would be pleased... but the early commit of Jalin Marshall may make it a little difficult in scholarship reduced years. They're rank at 6th and 7th in (in a reduced yr)
