We have the best defensive talent in the BIG and yes we have guys hurt but who doesn't? We aren't getting any better on D. If 1 coach (Mattison) can turn around a significantly less talented group of defenders at mich then just imagine what a top flight coach could do with our guys. I honestly think it's possible that I would be less frustrated this year if we had an early loss, BUT got a lot better/dominant on D and were crushing people by now, on D. I'm still thankful we're undefeated, just saying I think I've been less frustrated with some really good Buckeye teams of the past with a loss at this stage of the season, so please hold your "troll" accusations if your a complete apologist.

If the same stuff is going on in two years I'd agree with you. As it stands I'd say it's more personnel. We lack an elite pass rusher and an NFL caliber mlb. Those, along with an elite corner in Roby, are the two staples of our great defenses. As Meyer would put it, this isn't an Xs and Os problem but a Jimmy and Joes. Elite defenses are fewer and far between in cfb these days. The big 12 acc and Pac 12 have zero. The sec has arguably 4. The big east has never had one. Chill out. Let urban get his guys in.
I think we'll see some quick changes because Meyer has to step in now. No choice.
100 threads on d coaches... I know it is frustrating... but can we slim some down?
Yes, there have been injuries. Yes, there are some personnel issues. However, this is also a defense with NFL caliber talent. Hankins and Roby are first day draft picks. Simon will rightfully find a spot on an NFL roster. Better defenses --much better defenses-- have been put together with much less talent. I'm not laying all of the blame at the coaches feet, but ask yourself this question, what have the coaches done to make this defense better? What have they done to make themselves indespesible?

I don't think the talent across the board is what we think it is. We do have one first round and a fringe first round pick if he leaves this year (Hankins and Roby). We do not have the speed in the safety spots we wish we did and we don't have the athletes in the LB corps playing like football players. Simon will get a shot, but do we really think he is going to be an NFL starter? Simon is a tweener, he is a little undersized for an NFL D line and he doesn't have the elite athletic ability to be a LB. I think 2013 will be the year that would be deciding for Fick- but 2012 is way to early to blame him.
