<steps on soapbox>
Hadn't seen any posts about this yet, but maybe my vision is as bad as the officials' vision from last night. The officiating last night looked downright horrendous at the stadium. Seeing replays on the ginormous jumbotron only magnified a lot of the replacement-ref-like officiating. Did it look as atrocious on TV as it did in person? Even Husker fans around us just shook their heads at mindboggling calls that went their way.
Even though the game was being played in the 'Shoe, it seemed like the away team was getting extra help from the zebras. There were several calls (and spots) that seemed to keep Nebraska drives alive and more importantly, their morale. The point is moot given the outcome of the game, but it was really frustrating.

There's bad officiating every game. Missed calls, flags on plays that shouldn't have been called, etc - a good team overcomes them and still finds a way to win.
I was at the game and 2 or 3 of the roughing the passer calls were garbage. But this team is good enough to not let those plays effect the outcome of the game.
Agreed, but it really felt like Ed Hightower was out there trying to be relevant.
Keep Calm and Ignore the Trolls.
I was at the game too and was shaking my head at some of the roughing the passer calls. I assumed it looked worse on tv, but maybe they were just bad calls.
I think anyone who watched the game saw that there were a bunch of completely shit calls - particularly the roughing the passer calls...in general - they were just throwing flags all night on anything & everything.

The refs were bad. The facemasks and late hits on the QB were pretty controversial. The one I had the most difficulty with was the noncall on Burkhead's 73 yard run in the first quarter. Where he cut back his run at the line of scrimmage, our DT was being bear hugged around the upper body and head. How does the line judge miss that?! Absolutely inexcusable...
Anyone have replays of the roughing calls anywhere?
The officiating did suck, but like i tell the 5th graders that I coach, don't leave any game up to the officials. The Buckeyes did just that, they just willed themselves through them crap calls and punched Nebraska in the mouth. Best game since the Sugar Bowl.
The long pass to bell was pretty awful, both his stiff arms went directly into the facemasks..its kind of hard to tackle a guy when he grabs hold of your facemask and pulls on it.
Well i like college and i like football...and im gunna keep doin em both cause they make me feel good!!!
Nice to see the NFL lockout refs have found a home int the B1G!
Buckeye in PA purgatory
Watching on TV, there were plenty of bad calls. There was a moment where I thought to myself, damn, this is a home game refs. No love.
Ya, that crew really screwed the pooch. They called a lot of fouls (and missed a lot on Nebraska) on us that weren't fouls. You guys remember the double facemasks that they DIDN'T call against Nebraska but sure as shit called the one on us which wasn't nearly as blatant? And both (I think there were two) of the roughing the passer calls were bullshit. Those were not roughing the passer and were perfectly clean hits. One thing's for sure -- it makes me feel even better about this win knowing that we had to not only beat Nebraska, but had to do so while they were getting referee assistance all night long. Great time to be a Buckeye! GO Bucks!
I did not see terrible officiating. The stiff arm was questionable and could have been off setting instead but our face mask against him was 10x worst. One of the late hits should not have been called but I remember one of the others was helmet to helmet. Personally I think we need that intensity and aggression. Normally the aggressor gets a few more penalties.
i noticed several times where Hankins had a guard hanging on for dear life and there were no holding calls called. Also, i am all for player safety but it seems that if you hit the qb a split second after the ball is gone its roughing the passer now and they are not all penalties. When a blitzer is running full speed from the back side and hits a half a second after the ball is gone A. it is to late to pull up and B. with a qb like Martinez you cant assume the ball is gone thats how a broken play turns into a huge gain. I get not hitting head to head and spearing but if we keep going this route we may see the qb 2 hand touch rule.
