NCAA - new punishments for future rule breaking

Didn't see this anywhere yet, and it's not just exclusive to football, but here goes:

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ncaa-approves-tougher-sanctions-rule-143324645--spt.html

Anyone heard about this yet?  Thoughts?  Sounds like some serious stuff in there.  Of course this is somewhat a PR thing - the NCAA has appeared "weak" as of late.  But last year reall was a bad year rule breaking-wise....

EDIT: changed title to be more clear

They had to do something. Im ok with it. Now they need to work on actually enforcing it on EVERYONE. Cant be selective with it.

Not going to make a difference....because the SEC coaches won't be under investigation (until Chizik gets fired this year...then Auburn will be under investigation for Cam Newton and others.  However, he won't be the coach there and Auburn gets nothing...anyone wanna make a bet on that...I like my chances of winning).

How will you make ESPN release the SEC from their protective grip so the NCAA can actually investigate infractions?

I want so badly for someone to ask Emmert this question on the record.  I would love to hear his response.

Oyster/One Bad....agreed!

Good points, all.  Hadn't thought about that...sure, the punishments are changing, but what about investigation protocol?

Punishments Smunishments!  Until there is consistency for everyone it will never be fair.  We can all list numerous examples where one school got a certain punishment and another school did basically the same thing, yet received something different.  Does it smell of favoritism?  Sure does.  Cam Newton comes to mind.  How can 'nothing' be found when it was made known his father was shopping his services around?  There needs to be a level playing field for all teams.  If you do that, it may reduce some of the questionable practices.  Then again, I'm an optimist, so take it for what it is worth.

Agree with bhardy. Gotta start actually enforcing it when teams pay their players... it'd also be nice if they made it so SEC teams had to play by the same recruiting rules as everybody else.
