I keep seeing over and over people talk about the Buckeyes winning the NC next year. I just don't see it...at all. I am a huge fan of the Bucks and I definitely supported the hire of Urban Meyer, but to think they will get it done next year is crazy talk. I'm proud of the Bucks for being 5-0 this year and I still think we have a legitimate chance to run the table, but the Big10 is so weak this year. I watch Bama or FSU play and they are on another planet than this team. Even offenses like Clemson and WVU are on another planet. I think we will get there in 3-4 years, but this current team is nowhere close to the top. I think we start rolling off Big10 Championships no problem starting in '13 but is all the NC talk really serious or am I missing something?

It only took twelve games for Dana Holgorsen to get his Airraid scheme working to the tune of seventy points against an ACC-champion Clemson squad...
I'm not saying that anything is set in stone, but I'd wager that we're probably around forty percent compotent in Meyer's offense, maybe forty-five. Once Braxton can learn to zone read in his sleep, Jordan Hall is out of sickbay, and Stoneburner starts getting more separation, this team will be a legit threat to score on every play. Hell, we're still incredibly explosive with Braxton doing his best 2010-season-Denard-Robinson impression.
It's the same old song and dance with the defense. Right now--like the offense--they're getting by on talent alone. It may take well into next season, but if our linebacking corp steps up, the defense will rise up with them.
I'm just saying, we're in an FSU situation here. We've got endless potential, and top-tier talent coming in on an annual basis. There's no way we're not at least on the fringes of the title conversation next year, especially given Urban's historical record in year two. Speaking of our head coach, he's also a Hell of a lot better at coaxing talent that Mr. Fischer is in Tallahassee.
I agree Alabama is on a different planet right now. However B.Miller is so damn good, that him continuing to develop alone will be worth 2-3 tds on offense, and R.Shazier is pretty much the same on defense he is still learning ...
Uhhh.... What does OSU, FSU, or Bama or the B1G this year have anything to do with next year? Bucks have alot to work on this year, we know. B1G sucks this year, we know. Bama kicks ass this year, we know. But don't sit there and tell me all that translates into '13. (well maybe B1G suckin' next yr.) Its only 3:00 pm and I already have a good buzz on, don't get me started dude. OSU and Braxton at least play for the NC next yr.
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
I think this team is improving (finally), but its far from the likes of Bama and other elite teams. Next year we certaintly could be in the discussion, but I think for right now, we should take it one game at a time.
I'd rather not be the new USC..how'd that turn out for them so far this year?
"Winter is coming" - Urban Meyer
we have our entire oline..wr core...and 2ndary coming back.......... we got a shot next year..ohh and some guy named braxton..our oline will be all Srs....also..look at the other powers across the country...usc will be down next year..mishitgan will be butt cheeks...FSU has to win today or never...oklahoma will be down next year...onlt teams like lsu or bama stand in our way...u have to look at the other teams players who are leaving... i think we stand a better chance next yr than in 14....14 also has the playoffs thats 1more game to get thru....besides...urbz wins big in year 2...always
Brutus is........The People's Champ!!!!
So as B1G Champions aren't we AT LEAST in the discussion for the NC Game. And if we are undefeated B1G chamipions, unless there are three undefeated league champions, we are in the NC game. What's Urban's record in BCS games?
It's not Crazy
Our biggest losses are obvious; Fragel (who is playing great), Hall Stoney and Boren on offense, Simon, Williams, Howard on D (a few other solid players here who are SRs as well)
The rest of our O is back, and add Jalin Marshall we will likely be returning kicks from day 1. The D-line shouldnt be a worry, especially if Hank stays around. LBers should at least have some experience next year, and the secondary has a lot coming back.
Is your question if we have the talent to compete?
Both the offense and the defense have a long way to go, but the 2013 MNC is also a long way off. Why not? If we can finish this season unblemished with a team held together with spit and bailing wire, next year should be a whole lot easier. Let's get passed the Cornshuckers first!
The easiest way to defend it? We went 7-5 in 2001.
The Buckeyes will start the next 2 years ranked in the top 10 so right there they have a chance to play for the National Championship. By no means is it easy to run the table but despite the B1G being down if tOSU goes undefeated in either 2013 or 2014 with Braxton at QB they will play for the crystal ball.
The defense will only get better under Meyer, especially with the top tier talent on the DL. The offense will get much better, especially if Zeke, Marshall, and the other top tier WR recruit can immediately help as a freshman or sophomore.
Winning a title in 2013 may be unlikely but the schedule sets up for the Buckeyes to make a run at an undefeated season so if they get to the BCS Championship game anything can happen as we all witnessed in 2002! In my opinion 2014 when Braxton is a senior is when the offense and defense should be ready to dominate and bring a title back to Cbus!
Let's not forget that OSU was 7-5 in Tressel's first year and then 14-0 National champions in his second and that Florida was 9-3 in Meyer's first year and then was 13-1 in his second year and destroyed OSU in the national championship game. History shows with Meyer and OSU that huge improvements are made by the second year. There is no doubt in my mind we can play for a national championship next year. We can worry about winning it when we get to it.
SOX33OSU--you've made a great point.
Cinserious, I would love to see you 'get started' on my forum post that was not really negative toward the current state of the Bucks in anyway. I stated that I am damn proud of being 5-0. I just think the talk of NC '13 is a little premature and wanted to get some legitimate opinions on why everyone is so confident.
NC Buckeye.
It's ridiculous to compare West Virginia's offense with Ohio State's especially when they're playing defenses that suck. If you watched that game against Baylor at all, the Baylor defense would've done just as good had they not even been on the field. See Ohio State's game against Arkansas as the only semi-comparable game I can think of. They had an insane offense, and the Ohio State D pretty much shut them down for most of the game.
The talent is there, it is going to be the team playing to that level. I would think anything less than a NC next year would be a dissappointment.
While I dislike talking about next season during this season, let's take a look at the schedule.
08/31/13 vs. Vanderbilt Columbus, Ohio TBA
09/07/13 vs. Florida A&M Columbus, Ohio TBA
09/14/13 at California Berkeley, Calif. TBA
09/21/13 vs. Buffalo Columbus, Ohio TBA
09/28/13 vs. Wisconsin * Columbus, Ohio TBA
10/05/13 at Northwestern * Evanston, Ill. TBA
10/19/13 vs. Iowa * Columbus, Ohio TBA
10/26/13 vs. Penn State * Columbus, Ohio TBA
11/02/13 at Purdue * West Lafayette, Ind. TBA
11/16/13 at Illinois * Champaign, Ill. TBA
11/23/13 vs. Indiana * Columbus, Ohio TBA
11/30/13 at Michigan * Ann Arbor, Mich. TBA
Even if our team next year is as good as they are right now, you'd have to say they have a good chance at getting through this schedule undefeated!
I think 2014 will be more talented on both sides, but easier road to title game in 2013.
I don't think they'll win it all next year, and I don't think a B1G title and BCS bowl win would be a disappointment considering the team is 2 years removed from the worst play I've seen in my lifetime and a huge mess surrounding the program. I think 2013 will be a very good season, but I don't see a national title. I wouldn't be shocked if it happened of course I'm just not putting 1000 bucks on a futures bet for them either.
I say 2014 is the year this team wins a title. New playmakers like Elliot, Marshall, and whoever is brought in at WR will have a year of seasoning. Braxton will be a senior. The awesome D-line prospects will all be Sophomores and Juniors. Devin Smith will still be around. The team will not only have a ton of talent, but they'll have a ton of experience too. That's a great combination.
I am on board as thinking that this team will make a run next year. A 10-win season will be expected.
The only player that is not replaceable is Simon, and I believe that some of the young talent can ease that drop off.
As Miller develops his reads and the passing game continues to improve this offense will be nasty. Just think of the progression from last season to this season's MSU games.
2011 MSU game = 178 total yards and 0.9 yards per rush.
2012 MSU game = 383 total yards and 4.6 yards per rush.
Not exactly apples to apples, but another 7 games, Spring practice, Pre-season camp and this offense will be downright scary in 2013.
vacuuming sucks
I think a lot of the NC 2013 talk is predicated on the influx of playmakers in the recruiting class...and moreso on next year's schedule...It set's up quite favorably if you ask me
Front 7s WIN national championships..this team could definetly make it to the game next year especially looking at that schedule..but i dont know if the front 7 will be ready to win against what, lets face it, will be an sec team. Like a lot of others have said look to 2014
Well i like college and i like football...and im gunna keep doin em both cause they make me feel good!!!
Can we honestly stop talking about OSU going on to win a title and just enjoy the game of football. It will come in Meyer time but seriously I am in no rush to go out there and win a title. I rather get comfortable in Meyer plan for the team for the first few years, dominate B1G play and then go out there and win a title. Three or foure years down the road would be nice but next year, I doubt it.
Ohio State's band SLAUGHTERED Michigan's band. If this were a football game, it would have been Florida State vs. Savannah State. - SB Nation following OSU vs. UM 2012
Our schedule is 2013 is an embaressment. No way we should lose more than 1 game.
NC Buckeye.
Anything less than undefeated will be a disappointment. That schedule looks like scUM's from last year. Looking at it, Nerdwestern and Purdon't are the only games that scare me. scUM has nothing after Denard is gone at the end of the season.
-The Aristocrats!
Think about this.
We could be starting a whole new D-line next season if Hank leaves early. Add to that we will have Shazier as the only competent proven returning LB next season. Also loses in Howard(not that big) and Orhian Johnson (who's had maybe his best year so far).
Fragel, Stoneburner, Hall and Boren are gone from the Offense. What once looked pretty promising on paper for a title in 2013 now looks questionable.
I'll tell you what though..it seems like teams win national titles win they are least expected to. So we'll prob win it a year that we don't expect too..or we may never win one.

Wake up and smell the coffee House804 for these reasons: BTW...if you think the B1G is bad now...wait till next year.
1. Schedule-this team right now could traverse through the 2013 schedule unbeaten.
2. This team will be better than what we had in 2006 and 2007 teams that went to a National Title two years in a row and lost.
3. Look what Tress did in his second year with a team that mainly wasn't his recruits (Meyer will have "two" years worth of "his" kind of kids he's looking for, not to mention the ones Tress had that want to play...the rest will transfer).
4 And probably most important...it will be two years for Meyer to mold these kids into what he wants. Which are players that play like their hairs on fire (not to mention gelling of the coaching staff as well).
If they go undefeated this year...which they may do, then what are you missing House804??? This team is not bad to average right now...these coaches haven't even been with them an entire year...think about that to yourself and I think you'll see what I mean. Not to mention you said this initially:
If you feel that way, then why do you think going to (and winning key part) a national title is so out of left field?

The Cal team we beat by a few, will have to be beaten on the West Coast, add an opening game vs Vanderbilt and a road game to Ann Arbor.
Let's not take too much for granted.
It's okay to be confident, but being cocky get's your arse kicked sometimes.
Let's hope THIS year's team is giving more respect for a tough game @ PSU, than most of our fans are.........while on the subject.
^ Did he just say vanderbilt?
Well i like college and i like football...and im gunna keep doin em both cause they make me feel good!!!
I think I can come up with a few good reasons why NC talk is NOT ridiculous!
1) EVERY YEAR WE SHOULD BE TALKING NC! THAT IS WHO THIS TEAM IS! OSU BUCKEYES ARE GUNNING FOR A NC EVERY DAMN YEAR! FIGURE IT OUT!
2) Every team Urban has coached has made dramatic improvement in the second year. In case you have not been around for the past decade, he kind of won a NC in 2006, his second year in Florida!
3) this is a very talented, young (all but 3 positions have a freshman in the 2 deep) team that is in its first year of a system. You want to talk about WVU, second year in their system! Didn't really figure it out til near the end of last year. They were decimated by LSU 47-21! Scored over 50 only twice. Lost 3 games total.
4) Geno Smith will be gone next year! LSU is disappearing slowly. They will not be the same next year, trust me. No more Honey Badger! Bama and probably Florida will be the teams to beat in the SEC. Oregon will be Oregon. Barkley is gone! and UM will be right back to where they should be, 2nd best in the B1G behind OSU!
5) Jalin Freakin Marshall, Junior Braxton Miller and Bri'onte Dunn will be unstoppable!
6) because Urban will do it!
I guess some choose not to remember close wins against Louisville, Marshall, Navy, Cincinnati, San Diego State, Toledo, Bowling Green
or
Losses to AirForce, Syracuse, Indiana, Minnesota, Northwestern, Purdue (in a year we went to Rose Bowl and they didn't go bowling)
ehhhh- I quess some just have to live and learn.
Just for you making a thread saying why we will win the national title next season..that's a reason why we won't..just sayin.

ok #1, i hope big hank aint leaving because he said he wants to bring home the ship. ala mike doss?
#2, why can't we all just agree that were gonna go back to back? how mind blowing would that be. think about it!!!
I like football
#1. He's probably as good as gone because he's too good..lookin like one of the top DT's off the board this year (top 10 pick.) The kid's from inner city Detroit..very tough to pass up that kind of money. Mike Doss wasn't considered a top 10 draft pick.
#2. Saying we will go back to back is crazy, too many lucky breaks need to happen for a team to win one, let alone back to back titles.

Next year is too early... I'm saying Braxton's senior year... We will have Braxton, Dunn, Elliott, Marshall, Jacobs, Gibson, Quick (hopefully), and the stacked defense from the past 2 years. I believe we are B1G champions and in a BCS bowl next year tho.
The impressive part is how well urban has utilized a Jim Tressel team, can you imagine how good we can be when urban can actually get his personal in the game?
Braxton is the only proven player out of those guys listed and one isn't even commited here.
This reminds me of back 3-4 years ago when people used to say we'd have the best defense in the country and win national titles because of Etienne Sabino, Dorian Bell, Melvin Fellows, Garret Goebel, Andrew Sweat, Corey Brown, etc etc.
point is all the stuff is fantasy Mumbai jumbo.

Based on next years schedule I would think that is tOSU's best chance at winning the BCS Championship. We don't know if Big Hank is leaving or staying and we don't know how great the freshman and incoming freshman will be. What we do know is the B1G is weak this year and won't get much better next year and Braxton Miller is the best QB in the conference. With what we know the schedule is set up for an undefeated season and if that happens then the Buckeyes will play for the title. I am hesitant to think this will happen but next year looks like a legit possibility considering the jump Urban's teams have made in that 2nd year of the system.
Next year I think the Rose Bowl is a very realistic possibility, but I like the NC chances better in 2014 with a lot of senior leadership and Urban's guys being the main attraction.
Only thing in worried about in 2014 is OL. We have 4 juniors on this years line so they will all be seniors in 2013 and gone in 2014
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite

Only one team runs the table and wins every year. One. Will we be in the discussion in 2013 and 2014? At the beginning of the year, probably. Do we need to make a ton of improvements on both sides of the ball to really be that good? Yes. Do we need to have the best offseason on CFB history, again, to make that happen? Yes. We need the young guys to get bigger/faster/stronger, and most importantly better. All the talent in the world doesn't matter if you can't read a play and know where to go. And right now they aren't seeing the field, which means they need to make a big leap just to be as good as this year's team
This is going to be the topic of the day from November 25 to the day of our first loss (or, god willing, until we win the NC). Since we have an actual football season going on right now, maybe we can just enjoy watching the team come together and put together a great season? Table the Nostrodamus impressions until we have nothing else to talk about, just enjoy the swan song of a senior class that has shown a ton of character throughout their careers. And maybe, just maybe, we'll have enough skill, fire and emotion, and luck to beat TTUN and end on a high note (undefeated note? Still a possibility).

When told OSU set school record for 50+ games this year, UFM said "That's good. We're gonna break that next year."
Its all about learning curve. After a year of full speed, real game experience they will really be able to focus on adding new elements and not worrying about how to read the DE on the zone read plays. I expect the playbook to be much thicker next year, and Braxton will have full control and ability to audible out of poor matchups.

I see a NCG loss in '13 and win in '14
"You're pissed because we went after a committed guy? Guess what, we got 9 guys who better go do it again," said Meyer. "Do it a little harder next time."
Pharmbuck, UFM simply does not lose BCS NCG's, if (big if) we get there, we will win.
How can you possibly "see" that PharmaBuck?
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
"see" = think, if that wasn't immediately clear. We could possibly go undefeated this year and next year we have an easier scheduler and most likely a much better (but not yet "great") team. 2014 we will be dominant (assuming braxton stays - which I'm sure he will, especially without a championship and not great NFL projection yet)
"You're pissed because we went after a committed guy? Guess what, we got 9 guys who better go do it again," said Meyer. "Do it a little harder next time."
