Just wanted to share this because it was very counterintuitive to what I expected for my first trip to happy valley. I went to the Penn State game this weekend and had an amazing time. The scenery around the tailgating is awesome. The Penn State fans were very kind and welcoming. I was greeted with many "welcome to Penn State" " enjoy the game". I did hear a few negative comments from some drunk fans (which you have to expect) but heard way more positive ones. The group of Ohio State fans I was with were invited to multiple Penn State tail gates where we were offered food, drinks, had some good chats with alumni. Even after we won the game I had multiple people congratulating us on our victory wishing us the best of luck the rest of the season. We even had a bar after the game that had a cover let us in for free since we made the trip from Ohio and had plenty of Penn staters buy us beers. I wanted to share because multiple people that had visited before or had not had bad encounters with PSU fans (myself included). I was very impressed with their fan base during my visit and will definitely be making another trip back there in the future.

I've had good and bad at Penn St before, which is pretty standard from my experience. I've heard a lot of the same from opposing team fans coming into the Shoe. Kind of just depends on who you run into. There are good fans and there are bad fans. Penn St has a lot of crazies on the internet, so I think people go into Happy Valley thinking they are the majority. Thankfully that is not that case. Absolutely beautiful country though.
I walked through the drunk student tailgates on my only trip to Happy Valley. I was 13 at the time and they were spewing curse words left and right. I didn't know what half of those words meant until I was in high school. Yikes.

I'd like to think that part of the tidal shift in their attitude has to do with how the PSU fans were treated last year when they played in the 'Shoe. I actually made it back stateside for that game so I was able to see first hand how well they were treated. If my memory is correct our game with them was only a couple of weeks after the scandal really broke but I'd say 99% of the Buckeye fans I heard refrained from making too many comments about the situation.

@OTRAIN We had the same experience. I was very pleasantly suprised, and impressed with the stadium atmosphere. So many folks aid "Welcome", "Thanks for making the trip", or "how is everyone treating you?". Walking through the RV lot was a blast as so many folks talked with us or brought us over for a beer. It was a fantastic trip. It really seemed like there was a conscious effort made to treat us well.
Wow, it's good to hear you had such a great experience at the game. I'm guessing some of these nice PSU fans aren't the ones complaining about the refs online.
I'm glad to hear your visit went well. I'm sure you've seen this...
My friend wasn't involved with that incident...however one was involved with being beaten unit he couldn't see and ended up in a Penn. hospital. So their NCAA fun must have brought the angry/aggressive ones to remain calm and less physically abusive.

I have always had a good experience whenever I have visited other stadiums even decked out in all scarlet and grey. I hope all stadium fans are this welcoming to visitors. I took a Tsun friend with me to the 2006 OSU vs. Michigan game in Columbus and other than some light hearted ribbing he was treated very well by our fans. My buddy was still scared to death for his life being in Columbus for a game though LOL.
Yes there are two Buckeyes in Ann arbor on this site!
good to hear. thanks for sharing
I like football
The alumi section for tailgating at Happey Valley had some of the most genuinely nice people I've ever met. We had more food and beer than we knew what to do with that we brought and were being offered anything from 18 year old scotch to prime cuts of prime rib. We were told the student section would have been an awful time. I enjoyed my trip back in 2007
