Speculating ahead. If we were to land Mike Mitchell and he were to be successful his FR year would it hurt our chances of getting Raekeon? I ask because the depth chart seems to be our friend in the recruitment of Raekwon, but Mike Mitchell and the emergence of the 2012 LBs could quickly change that.
Raekwon seems to really like the staff. someone of his caliber is going to have a place on the field if hes as good as advertised
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
No not at all when esp when you fall in love with a school and their coach
My thought is if they are both good enough to play they will be on the field. Not a football strategist but if they can play MLB I would think they could handle an OLB position.
It's a fair point. He's come out and said he won't consider Auburn b/c of Reuben Foster, and not wanting to sit behind him. But at the end of the day, whether he goes to Georgia or OSU, he'll have to beat out high caliber players to see the field. You don't get PT handed to you under UFM.
4-6 seconds of relentless effort
Honestly, all I really care about is finding some good linebackers for 2013 and beyond. If having successful linebackers here in 2013 scares away a 2014 recruit, so be it.
McMillan would play MLB and I would think with Mitchells speed he would be an outside LB and even possibly a DE if it works. Certainly if the talent is there, they will be on the field somewhere. Urban has said he wants every position to be filled by athletic, fast players. Bring them all in. We can surely use them.
Well said Ludwig...

UFM has stated and shown he plays his best players. He would find room for both.
Mitchell wants MLB
Mitchell has enough speed to play OLB, so if the staff wanted to move him there they could. He could also rotate in with Lewis at Viper... I like competition. Let them both come in and compete for playing time. If they don't cut it, they can transfer out there sophomore year.
Reps.
This guy "gets it."
Mitchell could be SAM as well as MIKE. McMillan would be a great MIKE LB so I dont think Mitchell committing would be a problem.
"if irony were made of strawberries, we' d all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
It's nice to have kids who want to be an impact player right away, however if they don't come here because they don't want to have to compete, well is that a kid we really want anyway? I'm not pointing a finger at McMillan and saying this is the kind of kid he is, I'm just merely suggesting we shoudln't get too upset if a recruit doesn't commit because there is a lot of talent at a given position. I like to know these kids are coming in hungry and giving 100% and trying to make Urban's decisions over who gets PT difficult decisions. I think Urban can tell any recruit to look at this year as an example of why to not shy away because there are a lot of talented players at a position. Special teams, LB, and RB have all got very thin this year because of injury.
One step at a time guys, lets get Mitchell first, we need to solve this depth issue at LBs for the next season.
If this year teaches us one thing about linebackers, it should be we can never have enough good ones.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
Did Raekwon say he didn't want to go to Auburn because he did not 'want to sit behind him', or because he did not want to 'be compared to him' and carve his own path? For some reason I remember reading something a long time ago that he said everyone was comparing him to Foster, so he did not want to go to Auburn because he hated that, not really because he was afraid of playing behind Foster....
just asking, not sure if anyone else remembers that
Dubjay, I just remember hearing Raekwon saying he didn't want to play with Reuben Foster. I don't recall hearing any reason for it, so I don't buy it's because he's afraid of being behind him on the depth chart. Raekwon will compete for PT wherever he goes most likely.
As some have already said, we need to get quality players every year, but I don't think Raekwon would be afraid of competing. Plus, ultimately, I'm sure most players would be flexible and play where the coaches want them.
Shouldn't matter because these guys could play anywhere..Sam, Mike or Will. Can't determine that yet.
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
no it would not hurt at all
I hope Dubjay is right. To have a guy of Raekwon's caliber say that he doesn't want to play behind Foster is basically admitting that he isn't as good as Foster. My guess is that he wouldn't admit that to anyone even if he thought it was true.
Too sunny outside, too rich, too much beer in the fridge... can never have enough.
It's been said many times above as well, but you really never know who is going to emerge as a starter/star or who might possibly switch positions.
Who in 2002 thought Troy Smith would be a better QB than Justin Zwick? Not me.
Also, Curtis Grant ^_^.
Why do we keep changing LB's positions once they get here? Anyone else believe that's why Curtis Grant is having trouble adjusting to MLB? It's the closest thing to playing QB on the defense and it takes a lot of mental toughness which really isn't something most underclassmen have. I say if Mitchell is a MLB in high school, play him there in college. Forget "where their skill fits", play players where they are comfortable. Not everyone is like Boren and can adjust on the fly and just play a brand new position.
Don't give up... Don't ever give up.
Positions change all the time due to mayn reasons. I don't think changing positions are the issue here. You put the kids where you think they can be most effective, if they don't work out, you try them elsewhere. Lots of guys change positions all the time, some work out some don't.
has anyone else thought about the fact we have 4+ linebackers in the freshman class...when push comes to shove only 3 of them will get significant playing time at best. (between marcus, perkins, williams, and perry)
I agree! Urban's philosophy is competition. That is the very nature of their practices. Anyone that does not wish to compete should look elsewhere. I certainly understand looking for a team that does not have a stud sophomore starting at your position but you still have to compete against everyone at sometime in your career. You never know when the next stud underclassmen is going to come along. What do you do then?
Yes, we got 5 LBs in the 2012 class, but injuries happen all the time. It's obvious we had serious depth issues last season, and that continues this season due to injuries and slow development. I would like to think the young LBs will provide much better depth before next season rolls around. Obviously, Klein, Sabino, and Boren will all be gone, so the young guys will have to step up.
It can't be worse than now. Klein and Boren aren't exactly lighting it up, Sabino can't even play due to injury, so I'd say by this point next week, the linebackers will be in a much better position
If Mitchel does not make a visit for "The Game" I will have a hard time believing he is going to be a buckeye, just my thoughts. Go Bucks!
Okay so my friend and neighbor Brandon Kublanow is an espn 300 OG commited to Georgia and he told me Raekwon told everybody at Georgia he's committing there most likely and Brandon said Raekwon just wants the attention.

man of scarlet, that's interesting. i don't doubt he said that. but a 17 year old will say a lot of things if it means they a) get attention (as you stated) or b) make a few friends along the way
hope he's a buckeye!!
dubjay, I also remember Raekwon saying that. He said he was sick and tired of being compared to Foster. I don't remember him saying anything about PT. Personally, I'd rather have Raekwon over Mike any day. From what I've saw from highlights, Raekwon is a natural LB with great instincts. Mike is a tremendous athlete who is still learning the LB spot and can make up for bad plays by his speed, athleticism etc. Don't get me wrong, I hope we get both! In terms of college ready, I think Raekwon's got the edge.
Plus Mike probably brings Mickey!
I hate to be negative but in a realist's view...I am starting to see the writing on the wall. Mike Mitchell is NOT going to be a Buckeye. Kid hasn't visited and he's got his pops in his ear yakin to him bout Texas A&M or Oklahoma.... If we get him, then hey, we're BLESSED, but if we don't...then I'm ok with that. Lotsa talent out here and Urban will get some good ones.... No recruiting class will ever hinge on one guy.....Especially not an Urban Frank Meyer recruiting class!
GO BUCKS!
"You're pissed because we went after a committed guy? Guess what, we got nine guys who better go do it again. Do it a little harder next time." -- Urban Frank Meyer -- I LOVE THIS DUDE!! :)
I don't think he is being pushed to OU AT ALL. He has had 2 PRIME chances to go to OU games. The one vs. Texas and the one this weekend vs. ND.
He has CHOSEN to not go to either. That speaks a lot IMO to his real interest in that team. He was quoted as saying he just wanted to relax rather than go to the OU vs. Texas game.........
No it won't matter either way. It would be nice to see both on the field at the same time in 2015...however....I'm not getting my hopes up with Mitchell until he commits. I'm thinking it's OSU, OU, TX A&M, and FSU (in that order). I'm just not sold yet that he's defiantly going to OSU...that is unless he hasn't watched one game to see how great our LBs are this year. I tend to think most would go for a school that has the most potential for instant playing time. I'd say OSU fits the bill on that.
As far as McMillian...Slam Dunk IMHO....and that makes me really happy. I miss OSU having great LBs...it's been a while.

I could've sworn that in some article McMillan said he responded to a question about playing with Dante Booker at Auburn by saying that he didn't want to play behind Reuben Foster, so that was out of the question. However, based on what he says in this article, I think dubjay is right.
