...I thought were about the whiniest bunch of people I had ever been around. I'm not really sure how anybody else's gameday expierence was on Saturday, but our group ran into a few nasty crowds;one in particular. We watched a fellow Buckeye (probably 44yrs old??) CLOCK one of Sparty's finest as we were making our way into the Stadium...
Sparty, we'll call him, was your typical wasted college kid destined to get his point across that Ohio State Sucked, and how the Buckeyes were dominated last year. All the while his skanky, drunk girlfriend makes silly faces, as if she's having her boyfriends back; I think she even did the one-- where you stick your tounge out as far as you can while giving yourself moose antlers.. Anyway, one by one sparty went past us (we were 17 strong just in our travel group) telling us things he wanted to do to our mothers and calling us homophobic slurs; he was really out of line. Just as one of our friends, an Army member, was about to snap, a random gentleman dressed in Scarlet and Grey had had enough.. As I said before, he was roughly mid 40's and I hadn't heard him say a word the entire time Sparty was yapping off. Didn't know the guy, but I'll never forget him! Like a bat out of HELL HADES, this Buckeye version of Chuck Norris-- We'll call him Buckeye Chuck. Like a bat out of HADES, Buckeye Chuck went at Sparty with a looping Right hook and CRACKED him on the chin! I couldn't believe my eyes! This amazing, curageous man was willing to risk missing the game to shut this disrespectful dbag up! Turns out one of the guys in our group starts pointing and shouting at the top of his lungs how much of an idiot Sparty and his... whatever she was--was, over and over-- "THIS GUY IS ACTING LIKE AN IDIOT, BE PROUD MICHIGAN!!" "THIS GUY IS AN IDIOT"... shortly after that, security showed up... took our buddy's advice and realized they were acting like drunken idiots, put them in cuffs and escorted them away from the stadium.. not a Buckeye was lost for their efforts!
Did anybody else have a similar, or completely different experience?

Buckeye Chuck sounds like one helluva man.
I actually had a pretty good game day experience. We ran across some idiots, but you’re going to have that everywhere you go. I have been to road games in East Lansing and Madison. East Lansing is nowhere near as nice as Madison, but the people were much more hospitable. The people in Madison were the most miserable people I have ever met.
The bars we went to after the game all had a large amount of OSU fans. I think being around campus after a W made it a little more difficult for them to give us a hard time. Before the game we had a few people that were rude to us, but nothing too extreme. Overall, it was a pretty good experience and I thought most of their fans were decent to be around.

I found most MSU fans pretty respectful. Actually there was a younger buckeye fan probably mid 20's that was pretty drunk during the game making a complete ass of him self. Even I felt inclined to tell him to shut up. Every fan base has their 2%.
I don't condone fan-on-fan violence, but that is awesome. The only thing worse than a disrespectful-loud-mouth is a drunk disrespectful-loud-mouth. Please, Buckeye fans, don't be "Sparty" -- stay classy.
"The revolution will be televised."
I don't condone fan on fan violence either. Until all other options are exhausted, and your fairly sure you can escape without arrest. Go Chuck!
An angry fan...rooting for an angry team...led by angry coaches
I was at the game... MSU fans, minus a few idiots, were pretty good. I was welcomed into East Lansing several times by some nice people. Student sections in general do things the rest of fan bases are embarrassed of.
My brother and I had a great time at MSU. Fans around us were passionate about their team and were respectful of us. On several penalties against MSU, a MSU gentleman stuck up for my brother and I that the penalites were legit and told the Sparty to our right to sit down and stop crying... both occured on the 2 illegal man downfield penalties. Also enjoyed the irony of the many Buckeye trees near the stadium in full bloom.
Every traveling party needs a Buckeye Chuck
Ohio State's band SLAUGHTERED Michigan's band. If this were a football game, it would have been Florida State vs. Savannah State. - SB Nation following OSU vs. UM 2012
Michigan State football fans have finally put away their countdown clock towards basketball season... naturally, parting with something theyve been so close to for so long causes some friction
I had a coulpe younger fans say some nasty stuff to me and a friend, but there were other MSU fans around that appologized for their fans behavior. Most MSU fans asked us where we were from and if we liked campus so I would say we had a good time and the majority of fans were welcoming and courteous.
Every fanbase has it's fair share of idiots, including plenty for OSU that will be out in full force on Saturday night. Just have to deal with it and it makes it all the more satisfying when we win.
Still that's a great story!
I just had one student get say to me "Ohio State Really? Really?" other than that I had no problem with any of the MSU fans. All in all a great day for football with a great atmosphere.
Was probably a drunk student still salty he didn't get into Michigan. The irony.

We are all college age and walked through campus and off campus to get to the tailgating area. Got harassed the whole way but nothing outrageous. Typical "GO BACK TO OHIO YOU FUCK*** FAGG**". Real original stuff. Actually talked to a couple scUM fans while tailgating and they were probably the most respectful people we talked to before the game. Also sat in the student section which was very quiet and the lack of football knowledge was astounding. Very immature people (must have sat by freshman). A good deal of them were for some reason gone by half time. Pretty much what I expected all around. Kinda weak in general tho.
Agree with the few comments urging Buckeye fans to stay classy. Sure we'll have our 2%, as someone put very well. But I've heard nothing but good things about Nebraska fans and how they hosted us (if I'm wrong, though, please let me know) last year. Let's get a little tipsy, let's get LOUD and pumped, but let's stay classy this coming Saturday.

I thought the taunting chats to miller when he went down on the first drive were pretty classless
@BuckNutz...totally kidding around here....but why did you *** out the "ING" in your bad word? The F-bomb is totally right there (i.e. you've bleeped out nothing).
Glad your experience was decent overall and that you're level-headed enough to just take the usual taunting.
I'd have to disagree completely - I was treated respectfully by everyone, even the drunk college kids. Went to bdubs before the game which was full of Michigan State fans and the worst we heard all day was - Ohio State fans? Really? I was a big fan of their campus, real nice. Compared to the other schools in the conference, this is near the top for me as far as interaction with opposing fans.

Even the professors at MSU went crazy after getting beat by Ohio State.

Tomorrow
I wasn't at the game but as the local OSU fan living up here I've had several reports. I had some people say they had obnoxious Buckeyes near them in the stadium, etc. I think there are bad apples among all fan bases. I will be in C-bus this weekend and I know I will do my best to be a kind host to Nebrasky fans.
Where did everyone go after the game? Bars, resturants, etc? I'm curious how you enjoyed EL

As is clear from the comments on this board, travelling to road games and wearing your OSU gear is always a crap shoot. You might have a good experience with the host fans, or you might run into the handful of belligerent drunks that can be found at nearly every gameday environment. You're in enemy territory. Bring a thick skin and keep your cool.
Oh, and Madison is the worst. They pride themselves on being drunken *holes.
BuckeyeChuck takes no prisoners. Wow. While I agree every option should be exhausted before violence is decided upon, that must have been awesome to see.
As others have said, let's stay classy this weekend ladies and gentlemen.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
My group of ten didn't have any issues with MSU folks. We heard a few light-hearted boo's or disparaging remarks but nothing to be taken seriously although we did see two guys trying to get in a fight right outside the stadium after the game. Many people welcomed us and one girl said she couldn't believe we would drive all the way from Columbus to get there because, like, that was really far.
We should strive to keep thy name, of fair repute and spotless fame...
(Also, I'm not a dude)
Love this story. As for the morons in the fan base I run into one every time I go to a game. Most memerable was at the Cincy game couple years ago when lady 50-60 obviously did not understand the game spent the first half on the phone (midless chatter) and booed when taking a knee before the half on our own 20. Recently the amount of adults yelling profanities is someone surprising.
@FIREDUP - Being the graduate of the school across the Olentangy (Agriculture), the horse-chesnut trees are likley in fruit(nuts) and loosing their leaves (no flowers this time of year)... Likely not Buckeye Trees (Aesculus glabra) unless Sparty was going out of their way to beautify campus for the visitors.
Nothing like dancing on the field in 02...
@Toad1204... You are right there were no flowers. All of the shells were light green to yellow and really big. Thats what got me excited because the Buckeye Grove is nearly out of buckeyes and I wanted some. I could be mistaken but my brother and I picked two off the tree. They are very light brown and are currently darkening as we speak. These were to be our lucky buckeyes if we won and a loss would have prompted us to throw them on the field.
